This is the problem, and I'm going to get downvoted to high heaven for this, but what the hell. The "us and them" mentality helps nothing. Absolutely nothing. If you can't see that the extremes just endlessly shouting at each other is exactly what is leading 150k people turning out for such a march, then anything I say will change nothing. The goal should be to unite and educate, not to castigate and blame. At what point does it become apparent that not everyone attending these marches are racist bigots? When it's 150k? When it's 250k? When it's millions? When it is everyone in society except for you? These people are winning because the people at the top are giving seemingly easy solutions to difficult problems, even when the problems aren't real and the solutions are bunkum. And the more outraged and shouty the people on the left get, the more they push the undecided and unknowing into the arms of those on the right. What is required are solutions and real alternatives, not castigation, blame and finger pointing. You just entrench people further into their positions and alienate them further. Personally, the messenger is as important as the message, but not everyone is as engaged with politics and people's history as you may be. People see their own situation as being poor, they see people telling them why this is, they see people saying that they have the solution to their woes. Why would you not support the people saying they will make their life better, when you see no other alternative? Anyway, that's my 2 cents. Back to lurking, and avoiding threads where people are seeing who can shout at each other the loudest. |

Agree with this. Sadly I think that ship has long sailed, as I struggle to recollect when I last heard/read it used in the traditional context. "Chomping at the bit" annoys me far more than it has any right to. It's just plain wrong. Horses champ at the bit. They don't chomp at it. In fact, I'm not entirely convinced you can chomp at anything much. You could certainly chomp on something... like a Mars bar for instance, but even then horses don't chomp on the bit. They may chomp down on some hay, but then, that's not the phrase. Like I say. Annoys me far more than it has any right to. |

Yeah. This is called age discrimination. Absolute non-starter. |

Indeed. I worry that football really isn't the game for some of our fans. Tactics didn't lose the match yesterday. Players did (specifically at either end) |

Nah. They don't care about *your* free speech. They only care about *their* free speech. [Post edited 27 Mar 19:14]

Good stopper/reflex keeper. Deals well with crosses. Bad with his feet/distribution. That's the general consensus from WBA. [Post edited 3 Feb 22:30]

Russia, who have threatened nuclear weapons so many times now that it has become effectively meaningless. Russia, who have said they will 'respond appropriately', as if they haven't been throwing everything they can at Ukraine already, and still not achieved their aims. "Peace for our time". Appeasement worked so well back in the late 1930's. I'm sure it would work just as well today [Post edited 18 Nov 2024 18:28]

source: https://www.skysports.com/football/live-blog/11095/13248197/ref-watch-live-dermo Should Ipswich have been awarded a penalty? INCIDENT: Leicester's Abdul Fatawu barged into Ipswich's Conor Chaplin in the box, but penalty appeals were immediately waved away. DERMOT SAYS: "The VAR did check that because I listened to it. It was felt the referee's on-field call was the correct call. He makes the call and there's not enough to overturn. "We asked earlier in the season for the referees to make decisions and, if you look at the referee, he has the perfect position and he immediately waves it away. "When the VAR asks him what he sees, he will relay that back. They said it was not a clear and obvious error so the game went on. "If I was the VAR, I don't think I could get involved." Warnock 'frustrated' by decision STEPHEN WARNOCK SAYS: "I think that's a clear and obvious mistake from the referee and that is where I'd rather the VAR came in and said they thought a mistake had been made, so go to the screen and have another look. "I understand we want to see referees taking more control - I get that - but it's a penalty. That's the most frustrating part of it. "Kieran McKenna was incensed on the sidelines and rightly so." Hell, they even did a penalty check for Leicester in injury time when Johnson chested the ball out for a corner. Apparently that was worthy of review, but not bundling a player over in the box. |
 | Forum Thread | Can someone please tell me why that was not a Pen at 17:10 2 Nov 2024
And why there was no VAR review. I *must* be missing something, because there was no attempt to play the ball and Chappers was bundled over in the area. 10 seconds later, Philips off for a 2nd yellow. Not saying he shouldn't have gone. I am saying he should never have been in the position to be sent off, because we should have had a penalty. Only 1 team winning that up to that point. |
