| News Comment | Morsy: Our Biggest Strength Has Been How We Bounce Back at 09:28:32
It's only an observation, but Sargeant didn't 'slip' as Morsy believes for the free-kick that lead to their goal; he deliberately chucked his leg out sideways to try to win a free kick, and he did exactly the same thing in the second half which the ref fortunately spotted and didn't award anything (I believe he should be booked for doing that?) However, Sam grabbed his shorts right in front of the ref for the first free-kick and I think that's what the foul was given for? |

What we actually need is a 'target man' rather than an out-and-out striker, though of course someone who could fulfill both functions would be amazing. For those old enough to remember Paul Mariner at his best, he was the ideal front man in a team that was full of goals anyway; someone who could dish it out to centre-backs as well as hold the ball up. |

Corinthian were renowned for their gentlemanly ways, hence the term 'Corinthian Spirit'. They amalgamated with another, similar club called Casuals just before WWII. In the early days (pre 1900), Corinthian supplied several players for England, and on some occasions the entire England team. |
| News Comment | Town to Celebrate Promotion With Christchurch Park Event at 13:25:56
So a free bonus event by the club to celebrate with supporters. Absolutely marvellous gesture by ITFC, and I guarantee that some of the more 'eccentric' fans will bring alcohol, flares and pyrotechnics and then complain bitterly about stewards being kill-joys if they're stopped because they're not snowflakes or bed-wetters and they've got profile pics clutching cans of Stella and everything. |
| News Comment | Barnsley Spurn Chance to Close in On Blues After Defeat at Exeter at 09:08:38
It's not inconceivable that Ipswich, Plymouth and Wednesday could all end up on more than 100 points, which would be ridiculous. I don't think they all will, but still possible and imagine if whoever finishes third doesn't go up? Our goal difference is certainly worth an extra point at this stage; it's going to be VERY tight... |
| News Comment | Woolfenden: We're Comfortable Playing Out From the Back at 13:11:32
Actually, Paul Cooper didn't often lump the ball forward. He very often used to throw it out overarm a considerable distance up the pitch, which allowed the midfield to get on the ball in space. He was a class act. And he once gave me an extra bread-roll for my soup in the Marquis at Layham, so top man :-) |
| News Comment | McKenna: We Were Dominant in All Aspects at 08:25:33
I'm pretty sure that Clarke will be the next club captain once Morsy moves on (not yet, hopefully). He has all of the attributes and has that 'presence' that would make him an obvious candidate. |
| News Comment | McKenna: Me and Karl Were Both Happy to Abandon and Play the Game Another Day at 11:07:02
I love to watch passing football, but I do think that the vast majority of those passes should be forwards and played quickly; that's how teams are opened up. And playing long from defence isn't necessarily 'Hoofball'. Look at the famous Marcus Stewart winner at Anfield. Superb long ball from Venus (who had looked up!!) to Stewart, slick 1-2 and then a skilled striker is loose in the opposing penalty area, not facing two banks of 4-5 defenders all formed up an ready. Playing long is just as good to watch when done properly as 'tippy-tappy'. It could be 'Plan B'... |

The badge has changed several times during my lifetime, so there is precedent for altering it. When I first started watching I don't think they even wore a badge, and then they started wearing variants of the town crest as a badge. The horse-based theme started sometime in the 1970's, and has undergone radical changes a few times since, including colour changes. |
| News Comment | McKenna: Celina Was of Big Interest at 16:04:12
I'm not sure that there's room for another striker in the current set-up, especially if we're only ever going to play with one out-and-out forward with the midfield expected to get forward to supplement the numbers? It's a style of play that relies on overloading the area behind the striker to get dominance in possession, but it also means that a large percentage of attacks have to come from deeper positions, and hence the high number of shots we have from outside the box. If there was a way that that could be integrated with getting the ball into the area around the penalty spot before having an attempt on goal on a more reliable basis then I think we'd be nailed on for promotion, but until that happens I have this horrible feeling that we're going to dominate the statistics without scoring too many goals? |
| News Comment | McKenna: We Did More Than Enough to Win the Game at 20:27:25
We probably do need a striker, but more than that we need to get the ball into the box a lot more with more than one player there to receive it. According to the stats we had nearly 20 attempts on goal today but far too many are long-range efforts that are easily blocked/saved/miss the target. Goals are scored from 12 yards and closer, and that's where strikers operate, but you need to get penetration to get the ball into them. It was exactly the same last season; masses of shots but too far from goal to be a regular threat. Of course there will be some successes, but statistically not enough. |
| News Comment | Hirst on Town's List of Potential New Strikers at 12:48:09
Whichever striker we sign, it needs to be someone who can operate in whichever style KM decides we're going to play, and different strikers have very different attributes that suit particular systems. Alan Brazil was fantastic for Ipswich playing with Muhren threading the ball through to him but was lost at ManUre, who played with two (very good) wingers at the time. Will Keane would have been my vote for most inept Ipswich striker ever, but whatever it is about Wigan's approach has certainly played to his strengths. I have faith that they'll identify players who are the right fit. |

..and after Beattie and Butcher now in the same area of play another B ..Baggott tremendous home debut … Don't forget Billy Baxter, who the legend that is Ray Crawford thinks may be our best player ever. |
| News Comment | McKenna: Season Won't Fizzle Out at 10:57:22
Every time we get 'bested' by any team in this league we hear the same comments; "strong, physical team who work set plays and get the ball into the box". It's certainly a tactic that works at this level, especially if you couple it with a tendency to go to ground at any excuse to win free kicks (and encourage bookings). I'd love to see Ipswich find a way of having success by playing quality passing football. I think we can compete against any of the 'strong physical teams' defensively with the system that KMcK has put in place (plus we have some very good defenders) but we really struggle at the other end of the pitch at the moment. I hear lots of complaints that we don't shoot enough, but I would say that in most games we have a lot of shots, just from too far out to have a realistic chance of scoring too often. We need to concentrate on working the ball into the box more often, and I'm certain that this will be addressed, along with the acquisition of the players to do it. |
| News Comment | Ex-Blues Coach Gill Joins MK Dons at 10:07:52
As we've seen in recent weeks, he didn't really have a chance at Ipswich because none of the infrastructure was in place, nor the back-up and technical staff. I don't think anyone could have succeeded with the set-up over the last umpteen years. Hopefully all that is now set to change. |
| News Comment | MK Dons Eyeing Bishop Move at 11:07:39
Along with most of the other players who have been perennial 'sick-notes' and underperformed, I have to wonder what they would be like under the new fitness/conditioning regime, where you would assume they'll gain the speed, strength and durability that everyone acknowledges they just weren't getting under the previous regime? |
| News Comment | Ward: As a Team We’ve Got to Be Better Going Forward at 19:21:06
I get so frustrated by all the talk of 'doing well in training'. Of course you do; you're playing against each other in training with nobody putting pressure on, unlike real games where the opposition are going to fight for every ball and beat us physically just about every time. Good technical players are fine, but they also have to compete and win the physical battle first, and we haven't been able to do that for years. There's only Norwood and Wilson of the current 735-man squad who have that innate power. |
