Why does it always happen to us...
at 11:26 17 Dec 2021

Looking forwards, rather than unpicking the Cook era the day after the new man was appointed...

Isn't Pert a specialist fitness and conditioning coach? Is Rolls going to be part of the new setup?

Haven't been so excited about a managerial appt. since, well ... ever.
at 21:28 16 Dec 2021

"When I did this drill with Cristiano last week" would grab my attention more than "look at these medals I won 20 years ago as a player". But everyone's different!

McKenna and team

Yep. It's his first time as the top man, so he's sure to make some mistakes. He needs to be given the time to learn from them.

This could be very exciting.

Whats happening now is the result of recruiting
at 11:09 16 Dec 2021

Largely agree, but disagree with the tag 'Championship'.

If I was being harsh I'd replace it with 'gutless'. But it's probably not that. Maybe 'similar'?

Put simply the squad lacks leadership, being streetwise. A bit of the dark arts. They can produce play that is good on the eye in patches, but that doesn't win football matches.

Because if a team doesn't have these qualities in L1 it will be destroyed a level above.

Time for Colin
at 10:51 16 Dec 2021

Has Colin ever gone into a club needing to be turned around and done it with the existing players?

I can only think of examples where he has brought in a bunch of workmanlike players that fit his style of play.

As much as some of these players may need bombing out...even some of the new ones....I don't think this is an option right now.

So it's a no from me.

Well I hope to his Ashton’s feeling the pressure
at 01:22 16 Dec 2021

IMO it's fine, in fact healthy, for a CEO to set boundaries for a manager to work within. To say 19 is too many, or that it will be achieved over 2-3 windows.

The bit that scares me the most is that he came in, recognised the lack of staff in all departments of the club and went ahead with recruitment at this level without an adequate recruitment team. And if you want evidence of that it's from Mark Ashton. He made it clear when spending 30 minutes telling us all how active he was in the recruitment.

Evidence? Proof? This is a football forum not a law court!

It is my OPINION that mistakes were made at CEO level in the summer. And they set the football club back months if not years. And if it's alright with you I'd like to share that opinion with other suffers of this mess of a football club. Okay?

Questioning Ashton's role isn't scapegoating. It's actually the reverse. It's accepting that the root cause of the current problems is more than simply PC was a crap manager and all will be good once the next one is in post. That's scapegoating.

19 signings was a high risk strategy that's currently backfiring. Ashton and PC both played their part.

Ashton gets to stay on and fix the mess of their joint making. Let's hope it's something we get to agree he demonstrates significant improvement on in the upcoming window.

He did one of two things. Either completely indulged PC's demolition man antics, put full faith in him to identify 19 players to fit his own style of play, than sacked him as soon as the going got tough.

Or he played a more significant role in the player turnover. Either way it's quite valid for questions to be asked.

You don't need to listen to anyone from Bristol to see it. But when you do see it you see worrying parallels with what they have said.

The performances and results hardly support the case he did a good job do they?

Rebuilding in one window was going to be tough, but too many mistakes were made.

Why was so little experience brought in at the back? Why was the midfield recruitment so unbalanced that every single CM at the club wants to be paired with someone more defensively minded?

The takeover was a big opportunity for this football club, and 19 random signings mean it's in a worse place now than it's ever been.

What's next? More recruitment? A bigger squad? Or trying to offload players brought in less than 6 months ago?

Sorry...just don't know what I'm supposed to thank him for.

Wasn't the main thing he did in the summer telling us how well he'd done in the summer?

Or do you still think he deserves credit for all the hard work he put into bringing this shower into the club?

I want this to be true.

But can't get rid of the thought that Ashton arrived, identified the lack of a recruitment team and then was actively involved in signing 19 players.

Part of the problem is we've constructed a Championship squad
at 17:55 16 Oct 2021

The goalkeepers and the defenders for a start.

It's not a championship squad, it's a squad with some players who could hold their own in the championship. Most at the top end of the pitch, few at the back.

The aim this year was/is automatic promotion
at 18:08 5 Oct 2021

I think excitement of some high profile individual signings is being misinterpreted by many as evidence of a squad that should be readymade to win games and get promoted.

It's worth asking how many players have played 30+ games a season in a successful team at this level or above? And how many have done it for more than one season?

Morsy, Evans, Chaplin stand out. But too many, especially across the back four, have a half season or one full season at the most. They have age on their side, but to say this squad has the pick of the league's defenders is ridiculous.

Who knows how things will pan out? Would you bet against each of the defenders only going on to have a lower league career?

If we have to bring in frees
at 17:50 15 Sep 2021

Is it thanks to MA's and PC's media profiles that so many are representing the current situation in this way?

The football club (including MA & PC) have failed to win a game this season.
The football club have signed 19 players.

Why does MA get the credit for the signings and PC the criticism for the results?

I'm not so sure the recruitment is as good as we've been told, especially at the back. This area lacks leadership, experience...and any ability to keep the ball out of the back of the net.
