Well yes, but surely that’s why you moan - prevention is better than cure. |

This is an important point, but it needs a big caveat: much of the core of that team (Morsy, Luongo, Chappers, Burgess) had gone as far as they could. They weren’t good enough for the Prem and at their ages they weren’t getting any better - in all four of those cases, they were likely to decline. The point about having reached their ceiling is also true of Woolfie and even Burns if we are realistic. It’s sad to see any of them go, especially Chappers, but if the plan is constant improvement to a sustainable higher level, all these outgoings are logical. Now some of the incomings are stopgaps - Szmodics (and though it didn’t work out Phillips) last year, Furlong and Akpom this year for example probably only have two more years as high end Champ starters/ lower Prem squad players left, but they’ll do the job Morsy/Luongo/Burgess did when they came in at that level/age bracket - at least that seems plausible. So I get the point about sentiment and to an extent the point about risk, but when people are saying there’s no direction, I disagree. |

Called it on Saturday - he spent a long time clapping and waving at the stands after the game |

I thought McAteer was fine. He’s like a more reliable defensive Burns. Maybe not so good attacking but not massively off. |

In fact probably more like ih-VAN, and since he's from Zaragoza he probably pronounces his surname ah-THON |

First half Soton were definitely better at carving through us than vice versa, but second half was very promising and I can only imagine that more incisiveness in the last twenty five yards will come soon. Also Soton were dirty SH!thouses and we’ll get stronger refs who don’t allow attritional break-up of play so freely. Armstrong, Downes and Fraser in particular were constantly tripping and barging. Downes got away with a very blatant handball too I think. |

I like both of these. Could combine them: Aaaaaaazon Aaaaaaazon Azon Azon Azon Azon (Jaws theme getting faster then…) Tiburón do do do do do do Tiburón do do do do do do Tiburón do do do do do do Tiburón! It would be the most complex and multi-layered shark-based chant in the league |

The panic and catastrophising going on after an unimportant cup defeat and a good away point is absolutely ridiculous. We’re two games into a very long season. We have one priority, being in the mix for promotion. We certainly shouldn’t be putting huge effort into the tinpot cup. We’ve got a couple of difficult potential outgoing transfer situations, and have had a tricky summer in terms of recruitment. But people saying it’s all over or we’re going to be relegated (!?) really need to go for a long walk and calm down. It is - definitively - far too early to be making any kind of assessment if the squad or the season yet. Get a grip. |

Maybe a touch high but the biggest subsection of the huge number of non-voters right now are centre- left to left - if it’s done right (and it’s much too early to say on that front I think), it could energise an enormous number of non voters. 150,000 sign ups in two days suggests that could be extremely plausible. |

Different class/ideological coalition from the Greens. Polanski might win and that might ease a lot of socialists’ worries about Green nimbyism/parochialism (which is arguably a bit outdated anyway). If this new party and the Greens had a non-compete agreement they’d probably get a combined 30% of the vote. |

She’s not on Spotify out of principle but I will nominate Joanna Newsom’s Divers. Maybe her best album and certainly one of my top handful of the last twenty years. |
