Town were among the clubs that wanted to sign him from Fleetwood. His last home game for Leicester is against us. What's the betting? He goes out with a bang! |

No wonder we are signing youngsters from other clubs! Ipswich youths used to be regular winners of the South Eastern League and two-time winners of the FA Youth Cup. What a shame. Where has it gone wrong? Let's hope Cat One status helps the youth system. |

I can remember it so well, too Phil. I was a painter and decorator at the time and was on my ladder painting some soffit boards when the news came over the radio of his suicide; I was so shocked I nearly had a fall. While at school in the 70s, I was a raker at Foxhall for the Speedway for the princely sum of 75p a meeting. I was privileged to be there when the Witches were the best team in the country, with Billy part of it. Sporting life didn't get much better in Ipswich when we had the best speedway team and one of the best football teams in the country in little Ipswich! |

In my opinion, Town have just as much right to call themselves champions of Europe when they won the UEFA Cup, certainly just as much as any team these days winning the so-called Champions League |

That's so awful what you went through along with how your mental health is now. It adds to your pain when you see that the perpetrator has been dealt with in such a lenient way. I hope that any counselling you can get can go some way to ease the upset and hurt you still feel. I sincerely hope you can find someone who can help you with your struggles in life and my heart goes out to you. |

Remember it well, Went in tranny van with a crew from the Falcon a great match but trouble before and after but great memories of that day and the replay at Portman Rd a few days after with Arnie's brilliant goal. A picture of the goal was hung in the Falcon main bar after. |

Thanks for sharing. At this time of year, our thoughts are with those we have lost. Belated Happy Christmas, Hoppy. Like you, I was at the cemetery and was surprised at the number of people there, but I also saw the love on display. |

I'm a season ticket holder and couldn't attend Sunday's match because of illness, and I won't be able to attend the rearranged Chelsea game. I put both tickets on the club resale site,, but nobody wanted the ticket to Sundays game, and so far the Chelsea ticket is unsold so I think your post isB/S |

A succession of Suffolk County councils look down on Ipswich and consequently don't promote Ipswich. Not enough is made of Ipswich's very historic past. The fact that 1960s planners ripped a lot of the historic buildings down. And finally, Henry VIII if he he and Cardinal Wolsey had not fallen out we would have had Cardinal Colledge Ipswich which would have put Ipswich on the map and over the years would have made Ipswich a place that would rival Norwich |

I would put Bill McGarry also equal third as without him there wouldn't have been any halcyon Robson years. McGarry took over in October 1964 when the club was in a terrible state it was languishing at the bottom of the old Division 2 and heading for Div 3, with an ageing team with morale at rock bottom. John Cobbold brought McGarry in to wield some much-needed discipline, within three and half years McGarry had transformed Town and were Division 2 Champions in 67/68 with some very inspired signings..Yes, I know he left for Wolves in November 1968 but Wolves headhunted Mcgarry because of his terrific job at Ipswich. The next manager was the great Sir Bob, but Ipswich wouldn't have had Bobby Robson without the efforts of Bill Mcgarry getting Town into the English top league. [Post edited 29 Nov 2024 22:17]
