I was sat in with the home crowd, level with the 18yard line, my gut feeling at the time was he went down very easily, and not a penalty. Watching the replay it looks a bit more like a foul but still not as clear cut to me as most on here seem to think. On another day I could see it being given, but not always. |

I sat with my Huddersfield supporting friend too and he said exactly the same. Thought they were very good until their enforced subs changed the momentum, dominated the middle and first to all second balls, got men up for the overlap etc. Interesting to read comments on the penalty, and Phil's report too, from where I was sat I thought he went down too easily and wasn't a penalty. Not seen a replay though. |

I used to go to Bury quite a bit in the mid 90s. There was a little group of fans, led by a bald guy with glasses, who used to sing and were great fun. They had a few standards, 'Bury Town (repeat) is wonderful (repeat), its full of sugar beet and Greene King...' and a tribute to the striker Kevin Lane to the tune of Penny Lane. |

I went to a comp, taught in one for 10 years and now taught in a private school for 10 years. Obviously all schools are different and it very much depends on what the options are, but would agree with some comments made - from my experience private schools do push the kids a bit more, but that's not always helpful as the kids/parents often assume they are better than they actually are. Also they are propped up so much that I would question their genuine independence/resilience - whereas kids who have had a bit less support have tended to have to figure out things for themselves a bit more (flip side is without this support some will not achieve their 'best' in terms of results etc). I don't intend sending my daughter to where I work even with the big discount I get. |
| Forum Reply | Comments from Doncaster game at 07:12 11 Feb 2022
It was a rare live game for me, so it was interesting to see how all the reports/comments from previous games looked in reality. I thought it reflected a lot of previous comments that our build up play was good but we were just a bit slow and allowed them to reorganise, or we lost momentum in the final third, lots of checking back to the fullback etc which again allowed them to get back. Thompson got in great positions but seemed reluctant to take his man on or be more direct, but again previous comments suggest he is a more traditional fullback so its a bit unfair to criticism for not being something he isn't (attacking wingback). Agree with previous comment, it was comfortable with hindsight but they could have sneaked a lucky equaliser from a corner etc. But overall we dominated the game and should have scored more, and there was a great atmosphere in the away end. An even rarer home game for me at Cheltenham in a couple of weeks so hopefully another win then. |

A friend did the Dragon's Back a couple of years ago, was interesting to hear about it - pretty tough, as you would expect. I think if you steer clear of a few busiest spots most areas have some lovely quiet places. Never been running in Wales but am staying in Conwy in August, and hope to get out for a few hours from there if anyone has any ideas. |

I'm near Darlington/Teesside, so the North York Moors is my regular haunt, but get across to the Lakes, Northumberland and North Pennines as well. Not done much running in the Peaks but am aiming to explore new areas, any bits you would recommend? Agree I switched from road running several years ago and definitely find it easier on joints and my feet/blisters etc. |

In the thread about going up Snowdon, Tractor Wood mentioned he was a fell runner - anyone else involved? And if yes, do you live up north or just travel up when you can? I do a lot of running all over the north, always good to see other Town fans on the hills - I know a couple of others. |
| Forum Reply | Conservatives predicted to win Hartlepool by-election at 20:44 4 May 2021
Just been discussing this with my in laws today, traditionally Labour voting from Hartlepool. Their view was that years of Labour rule don't seem to have got them much, and that being Conservative might get them more e.g. hospital services, government funding. They have 'excused' the lying and sleaze in the obvious ways, all the same, what politicians do etc. A very depressing conversation all round. |
| Forum Reply | Whereabouts does ‘the north’ become ‘the north?’ at 07:14 22 Apr 2021
Growing up in Suffolk I would have agreed that the north was above the Wash/Severn line, but having lived in the north east for quite a while the midlands doesn’t feel that northern to me. Durham/Cumbria/Northumberland feel ‘proper’ northern but I suppose Yorkshire gets in too. |

Edge of Teesside/County Durham. Get to a few away games across the north usually. |

Was in between picos and coast last summer, great area with loads to see, weather was quite changeable, and generally quite busy though. Been to Galicia many times and and it is always great, quite quiet and not many Brits. Area around Noia and Porto do Son (think its called that) is my favourite. |
| Forum Reply | so why has England's support been so poor this tournament? at 13:02 6 Jul 2018
Totally agree. You could go on holiday to any dodgy authoritarian country and have a great time as a (relatively) wealthy western tourist who they obviously want to attract and impress, i’m not sure how people can then somehow leap to the idea that the leader/regime is therefore totally fine and just ‘misunderstood’. I don’t know how anyone can defend Putin’s regime as simply ‘misrepresented’. |

Brooks tend to be quite wide for your toes, if rubbing is a problem. Buying 'old' versions online also saves a lot. Should be able to get a decent 'normal' pair for £50 or so I reckon. Not sure if the special arch etc types get pricier. |
