That 56% figure strikes me as more about salience given the issue is put front and centre by those who would make political capital out of it. In the grand scheme of things, immigration doesn't have a great deal of impact on most people's lives and the impact is not necessarily negative.

And true, it's not just Farage, but he's a master at keeping it on the front pages.
When a single politician and a few friendly tabloids can set the agenda, it inflates the issue way beyond its real world impact.

Policy wise, Labour is no worse than the last lot (if you're anti-immigration), but their comms are clumsy and seem to be playing into the hands of the far right.

What are your concerns? Also, I don't think calling people lefty's or accusing people of virtue signalling is helpful either.

I don't think wanting secure borders and decent public services is racist, but blaming migrants for underfunded housing or the NHS misses the real cause, which is failure of government. If that distinction isn't made then we hand people like that the excuse they're looking for.

Edit: I'm meeting my MP to discuss this subject. I've never felt compelled to even write to my local MP but I'm seriously worried about Labour's stance on this subject. This demonstrates it perfectly.

The reality is we’re nowhere near being ‘overrun’, that’s just nonsense. The Rwanda plan was a headline gimmick that cost hundreds of millions without removing a single person. Most people arriving claim asylum lawfully, and many come from countries where we’d expect Brits to flee if the roles were reversed. We should deal with this sensibly and work with Europe, process claims faster, deport those who fail and support those who succeed, not stir up panic with flags and mostly nonsense rumours about ‘illegals’.

I don’t think you’ve said anything that unreasonable. Can’t say I’m ashamed of this country but there are aspects of it I find rather unsettling. Not that I speak for any side in particular.

There was a scrappage scheme wasn't there? I'm not sure what else could have been done. Also, the majority of Londoners are in favour, so you can talk about the reality on the ground, but the fact is, its a popular policy in London as a whole.

Also, what do you mean by working people out of interest? Most people in London of a working age are working people.

Love the LTN where I live, it's been a great improvement for the road I live on. The air is clean, the noise levels are much better and you can cross the road without worrying about someone driving 50 through a 20 on the wrong side of the road. However, the Hither Green one is a bit odd.

As per my reply to this, I don't think he's done anything particularly egregious by posting those figures. When I reported on crime, comparing current quarter vs previous quarter was pretty standard as you're comparing like to like. It's obviously more useful when reported against longer term trends.

Comparing a period to a similar period in a previous year is perfectly acceptable and pretty common in the analysis of crime data, but I take your point re long term trends. Let's see how the following couple of quarters look.

It's very popular in most of London. Probably not so much in outer London but still there are more for it than against it. It's made quite a difference to the air quality where I live, which is on a busy route into London. The people who are cutting down traffic lights are morons and criminals.

Also, I'd expect nothing less from the residents of Bromley and Bexley, given their political leanings.
