Ipswich Town 0-0 Oxford United - Match Report
at 19:43:30

Really enjoyed that game, apart from the final 15 minutes when Oxford let themselves down with their blatant time wasting, which was a compliment to town as we had them on the back foot in the second half. Outstanding performances from Clements, Edmundson, Donacien and Morsy. Oxford are a good side but we were unlucky hitting the woodwork twice and we are now a threat to anyone. COYB

Ipswich Town 2-1 Shrewsbury Town - Match Report

The most important thing today was to get 3 points. We looked good apart from the last 30 minutes of the first half when our concentration wandered again. Bonne is exceptional, the defence played solidly (their goal was something special) but the balance in the midfield is not there yet. Having said that I come away from Portman Road now a lot more satisfied having watched attacking football. We are slowly getting there.

Ipswich Town 2-5 Bolton Wanderers - Match Report

I think that I am as stunned as everyone else who was at PR today. Cook is tactically inept. The real problem today was the absence of any structured midfield. Yes, the defence were torn apart and sometimes caused their own problems but there were acres of space for Bolton to play through the middle of the park. Why he doesn't play Carroll from the start amazes me. We saw in MM's time here that the mainly unsung Skuse performed an invaluable role in front of the back 4. When Carroll came on late today we saw him look for the ball, direct other players and splay short passes out just as he did against MK Dons. Without him there was no direction, no one taking control. At corners in the second half town defenders were looking to the bench for direction. The team looked like the 11 strangers that they are and without a captain. 2 bright points were Aluko and Burns. I remember making a similar post shortly after Hurst was appointed and look what happened there.

Ipswich Town 0-1 Oxford United - Match Report

Let's make it clear, we were beaten by a very average Oxford side who were not strong at the back and who gave the ball away consistently. We dominated them in the first half when Jackson was unplayable, they couldn't stop him. We had so many chances but if you don't put them away you get punished. What was really worrying was that a very good looking bench was not used apart from Bishop. Surely when you are losing at home to such an ordinary team you should chase the game, make some changes but alas Lambert seemed to be out of ideas. We let ourselves down at the end with ill discipline which was borne out of frustration that we didn't finish the job in the first half. We are not good enough to get out of this division.

Ipswich Town 1-4 Peterborough United - Match Report

What a shambles. Every League 1 side have 2 enormous defenders so why do we go back to the long balls? The keeper's error knocked the stuffing out of the team but I cannot understand our mental frailty. How can confidence suddenly disappear from a side who a couple of matches ago were top of the league? We were never at the races today and only one team on the pitch were up for it. I am doubting the manager's motivation of the team. We are still 4th but in my view have only looked good in 2 or 3 matches this season. Playoffs are the only realistic target.

That was the best home performance this season. Totally dominant although another goal or two would have made it more comfortable. The big difference is the settled side and keeping possession. How many matches have we been giving the ball away only to put the midfield and defence under pressure. Men of the match were Wilson ( a no nonsense centre half who gives stability to the defence and allows Woolfy to go forward) and Keane who holds the ball and makes those energetic runs with Jackson. A solid team performance and really enjoyable to watch.

Ipswich Town 0-2 Rotherham United - Match Report
at 07:30:26

Let's not panic yet but 3 points need consideration
1. Rotherham were very well drilled and played a tight pressing game which we had no answer to
2. As other posts have said, rotation of the squad to such an extent in League 1 - is it really necessary? Pick a settled back 3 or 4 and stick to it, it is the foundation of a settled team
3. The changes of system lead to players looking like strangers to each other. On the occasions we did spread it wide and got behind the opposition we looked much better but the final delivery was always on the head of their big centre back.
COYB, back to a tried and tested team and formation on Saturday please.

Ipswich Town 0-0 Bolton Wanderers - Match Report

This manager deosn't have a clue. He has come in and got rid of very experienced players, replaced them with lower league players, upset the few experienced pros left and not given the very promising youth players a chance. He has shown a total lack of respect and appreciation of the Championship. It's way above the standard he has been used to and he is out of his depth. The team today played like the group of strangers that they are. I have been following town on and off for 55 years and can very well remember the crowd calling for Bobby Robson's head when he struggled after coming to Portman Road, so I know that sometimes you have to give someone a chance but I cannot see that he will be able to keep us in this division. I agreed that Mick had to go when he did, but that solid mid table team seems a very distant dream now.

Ipswich Town 5-2 Sunderland - Match Report

Great performance from town. Garner and Waghorn have transformed the team and are a handful for most oppponents. Waghorn was man of the match with his assists and goal, and his running off the ball had Sunderland at sixes and sevens. It was one of those very enjoyable nights under the lights at PR. There is now competition for places across the team and the difference from last year is amazing. Sunderland were poor and saturday's game against a good Bristol City side will be a different test.

Ipswich Town 2-0 Brentford - Match Report
at 18:09:08

Sunshine, great pitch, home win, what more could you want? First half we were pegged back by a free flowing Brentford. I think we gave them too much room. Second half was different and a really good honest team performance. We have so many options up front now, it takes the pressure off the makeshift defence and midfield. Waghorn and Garner are very agile and put in excellent shifts. A couple of things to look out for later in the season. Garner will be missing for a game or two as he is sure to get a few yellow cards from his bustling performances and Brentford will surely hit someone for six once they have sorted their defence out. Portman Road is smiling again. Let's make the most of it.

Town Announce 2017/18 Season Ticket Prices
at 10:55:55

Raising the concession age from 60 to 65? Madness! As a 62 year old I have been coming to Portman Road, on and off, for 50 years, and there are hundreds like me. I travel from south of Colchester to every home game and occasionally away and despite this very trying season I am there every time. I have enjoyed meeting up with my son for a pie and a pint and together reminiscing what the good days were like. We have not given up yet because we always think that the next game will be the one where things are turned around. But why oh why Mr Milne, are you abusing those older supporters who are the life blood of the club? Must seriously consider my renewal now as to revert to adult prices is a step too far (and much harder to convince the wife why I pay all that money to watch mediocrity). After the Bristol City result last night, am I the only one really fearing the drop this year? Do I want to pay those increased prices to watch league one? Oh no!

Ipswich Town 2-2 Reading - Match Report

Very enjoyable, great support from the fans and unlucky not to get all 3 points. The 3 new loan signings performed well and geed up the rest of the team. Why was it better? Because we were positive. Diagouraga and Huws looked to go forward every time they had the ball and the whole team pressed and pressed when not in possession. Didz and Lawrence men of the match. What a player Lawrence is. When he scored the first goal you just knew he was going to unleash one of his rockets. Well down Town, hope the new boys aren't too knackered for Villa!

Ipswich Town 3-2 Blackburn Rovers - Match Report

Football today was better to watch and the meagre crowd got behind their team. Positive performances from Kenlock, who gives us width, and Bart of course. Chambers looked better in the middle but mistakes from Berra and Webster are getting a bit concerning. Bru is obviously talented but goes missing too often and needs more assertion and pace. Lawrence is a class act on this stage but we can only dream about holding on to him. Oh for a big target man up front. Enjoyed the afternoon.

Ipswich Town 2-2 Rotherham United - Match Report

How much lower can we get? It was frightening how the heads went down after their second goal and whilst we drew, I went away with the feeling that we had lost to the bottom team. Once again our opponents looked quicker on the ball and moved the game with pace. Mick Mills summary on the radio afterwards that the players look frightened to do anything other than the boss's instructions look right. I have been a fan of mick as a man but I cannot see any way forward now without a change. Look at what Jackett has done to Rotherham. We are in a relegation fight.

Town 0-1 Huddersfield - Match Report

Huddersfield looked efficient and confident, just like town did 2 years ago. But that seems a long time ago. This performance was dire. A below average performance from an average team with below average confidence. Emmanuel looked comfortable again and if we lost Berra for a few matches we would be in deep trouble. In fact, we are in deep trouble now and where is the next goal coming from? It will be a long winter. I dare not to think what the attendance will against Burton on a Tuesday evening.

Ipswich Town 0-0 Brighton and Hove Albion - Match Report

A tight performance from town. Looked safe at the back but a disappointing Brighton didn't test us, they seemed intent on a draw. The problem was that once we are 2/3rds down the pitch there is no attacking intent. I know that we have a long injury list but there doesn't seem to be a strategy for the final third. Oh for some creativity in passing and running off the ball. Unfotunately the lack of attacking excitement turns the plus of a sound defensive display into a dreary experience.

Town 0-0 Aston Villa - Match Report

A solid performance all round from town, apart from the right back. Villa disappointed but their defenders gave Pitman very little to feed on, although to be fair town's service to him was not good. A rousing finish, but look what happens when you switch to 2 up front and push
Ward and Sears forward! Please let's play 4-4-2 at home and put the visitors on the back foot rather than set up to negate them. Ward and Sears are creative players, not defenders. That system may work in the premier league but not with our team.

Town 1-0 Preston North End - Match Report

Pleased with that performance today. We looked positive in the first half, defence looked sound and it was good to win a game that we would have drawn last year. I know that we are not world beaters but wins breed confidence so let's get behind the lads. Poor Freddie is lacking in touch and confidence so a sharp striker must be signed before Wednesday night. Grant Ward wasn't in the game so much second half but he is a game changer.

Best Could Get Deal as McCarthy Closes in On Another Target

I'm quite happy with today. No, we didn't turn it on in the second half but we were positive in the first 45 and that is the type of home game we drew last season and dropped 2 points on so many occasions. Winning can only breed confidence. Back 4 was solid but poor Freddie is so lacking in confidence and pace. Fingers crossed for an effective striker coming in before the deadline.
