 | Forum Reply | Fear of flying at 13:42 21 Feb 2025
Lots of good advice on here. I love flying (being above the clouds, seeing the sun, being able to spot landmarks on the ground etc) but absolutely hate turbulence. In my previous job I was lucky enough to fly around the world but the lead up to the flight and often the flight itself (if there was turbulence) caused me significant anxiety. This only started in my late thirties. As people on here have said, from a 'factual' perspective you are very, very unlikely to come to any harm - turbulence doesn't cause planes to drop out of the sky, there is an incredibly slim chance of crashing and 95% of people in place crashes survive (you often only hear about the crashes with casualties). That doesn't necessarily help with the anxiety though unless you can train yourself to think rationally during the turbulence. Practical things to do include: Try to relax your hands so they aren't gripping the arm rests (or anything else) Moderate your breathing Relax your legs and ensure your feet are planted on the floor If you can, look out of the window at the horizon If you can't look out of the window, close your eyes - don't look around the cabin The last two are because in turbulence the plane is actually hardly moving - generally speaking no more than a few feet up and down maximum (usually less). If you look around the cabin the movement seems and feels exaggerated. If you look at the horizon you can really see that it isn't so bad (I try to avoid night flights because then you can't see the horizon). I also find it reassuring if the turbulence is caused by passing through clouds - at least then there is a reason you can see, unlike clear air turbulence which is a pig! Personally I try not to travel across the Atlantic (no landing strips in the ocean!) in winter (greater chance of adverse weather and strong winds) and if I have to, I try to ensure I have a decent seat and a few drinks (not beer because you don't want a full bladder) to send me to sleep (the doctors gave me Diazepam and it didn't work). I am happier on shorter flights and flights where you have a good pilot/first officer who is willing to give you a bit of info about how long they expect the turbulence to last for. |

Totally incorrect decision by the ref but we didn't help ourselves by playing the ball back to their keeper after the ref had blown the whistle and whilst their player was on the ground. Couldn't for the life of me understand why we'd do that when we were clearly in possession. |

As I understand it, the decision was taken by an individual within the club who wanted players to feature on the front. He felt they deserved to feature given their efforts in making it to the Prem. |

There is another video floating about on YouTube where he pronounces it differently. If he can't pronounce his own name what hope have the rest of us got?! |
 | Forum Reply | Finding fully remote work at 21:07 7 Nov 2024
If you are in West Suffolk then you could target Cambridge. Loads of healthcare companies, lots of them forward thinking and likely to be open to remote working. What roles have you had in healthcare thus far? I used to own a company conducting market research in healthcare. There are loads of different aspects of the healthcare industry and many of them lend themselves well to remote working. My company was originally office based and COVID changed that. I lost the fear associated with allowing people to work from home and realised it was a massive blessing - it meant I could recruit people from anywhere in the world. I think the current trend of making people return to the office is counter productive. |

Not sure if Amazon has implemented some form of dynamic pricing and your post has created a rush on the Mr John book, but that link takes me through to a version that is £361.99....! |

I don't like Ashton and think he has made a number of miss-steps since promotion. I am also not keen on his desire to be front and centre. However, it's clear he is absolutely passionate about the club. He works tirelessly for the benefit of the club and ultimately us as fans. No-one has come close to his efforts and definitely not his success for over two decades (arguably longer). You don't have to like someone to appreciate and be grateful for their efforts and frankly, you'd need to be a bit of a kn0b not to be thankful for what he has done. |

They have also stopped people leaving via the main drive. People now have to go via the practice pitch and out of the gates onto Sir Alf Ramsey way. Not a massive inconvenience (unless you have limited mobility) but it has increased the volume of fans funnelled between the buses into the traffic. Not a very sensible move from a safety perspective. |

Depends where you sit. It doesn't work well where I sit - block H of the West stand. |

Three has been poor for the past three or four seasons (used to be fine) in block H (west stand, middle tier). Have often hoped the club would install WiFi. |

You have very good reason to moan! It's a disgrace. Yes, the club has no choice but how and why hasn't this been given sufficient thought to ensure it is done in a way that at least feels somewhat fair? We may not have expected to get to the Premier League so soon, but requirements must have been known. It merely demonstrates that every single fan is dispensable regardless of the loyalty/level of custom they have shown over the years. |

Of course they do! The season doesn't start for another two months. This has been handled appallingly and it wouldn't have taken much thought to make the best of a bad/difficult situation. I think everyone appreciates there was no choice but to move people, but there are ways and means that could have made people feel like valued customers and not just commodities or some form of nuisance. |

Richards got a lot of stick, but Scowcroft had worse. I seem to remember that some folks in the north stand organised a red card campaign against him. Absolutely mental that any 'fans' would treat a player in that way, especially a local lad. |
 | Forum Reply | What’s your thoughts on Thompson? at 18:58 14 Feb 2022
Absolutely terrible. I have seen all four of his games so far and have seen nothing to suggest he should be in the team ahead of KVY or Penney. People keep telling me he adds more from a defensive perspective but the amount of times he let crosses come in on Saturday suggests otherwise. With a very solid central back three, we need the wing backs to be very good going forward to provide service to the forwards and that's certainly not happening from Thompson. I do also think that Burns has been playing too deep since McKenna came in (albeit I felt he was playing further forward for much of the game on Saturday). Getting the defence sorted was obviously no bad thing, but I don't think Thompson has added to that. |

The testimonial was after Sir Bobby's time. I was just a bit too young for the glory years so the testimonial gave me a chance to see the UEFA cup winning team in action (against England). Remember being impressed with how skillful Alan Brazil was. |
 | Forum Reply | Baffled by Thompson at 10:57 9 Feb 2022
He's utter tosh and can't pass for toffee so the fact he's 'technically' better at defending than Penney is something of a moot point given that the rest of his game is significantly inferior (which based on the three performances so far it is). But Kenlock? No. |
