Ipswich24: I thought long and hard before paying Marshall that compliment and I stand by it. Certainly he never played as well FOR US as Wright did, but I don't think anyone would having to listen to booing and jeering from their own supporters week in week out. For Norwich in the 2 or 3 years before joining us, he was rarely less than brilliant: remember how pissed off they were to lose him? And BTW, show Clive Baker some respect: he was brought in as cover for Craig Forrest and ended up keeping him out of the team!

Manic Blue: maybe I owe Finidi an apology. I was just looking for a pattern; some reason why we had those weeks of Champions League form which took us to mid table then fell apart again on the run in.

That was a good side and didn't deserve to go down: remember the disastrous start to that season as the new signings failed to settle in and the way we came storming back in the new year of 2002? Someone, I think it was Allan Green even said that Ipswich had "saved themselves" and were the first team who'd been bottom at Christmas to do so: talk about speaking too soon! It all came together when Finidi George was away at the African Nations tournament and it all fell apart again when he came back: cause and effect? I don't suppose we'll ever know, but you have to wonder.

My pet theory is that it was karma for the disgusting, puerile treatment of Andy Marshall by some so called "supporters". This was the best keeper we'd had since Paul Cooper and it was sickening to hear him being barracked just because he'd played for Norwich. I wonder how many goals he conceded because of the inevitable damage to his confidence and whether not losing those goals might have kept us up. Things have never been right since: the curse of Andy Marshall reaches down the years...

In all seriousness though, that year was make or break for Ipswich: we'd qualified for Europe for the first time since the reign of His Imperial Majesty, Burleigh was looking like a worthy occupant of the Throne and the team, on paper, was the best we'd had in 20 years. That second season in the Premier League, we didn't have to do anything spectacular: all we had to do was play it cool, stay up and we'd have become another Bolton or maybe better.

I still don't know how we blew it so badly. Answers anyone?

Gentlemen please! If we'd kept our heads for another few seconds during the past week, we'd have 4 more points and be heading towards mid table. Keano has to be given at least a few months. In the meantime, perhaps some thought could be given to why no decent players wasted to come to Ipswich this summer?
