Nsiala Set to Return to Blues as Bolton Loan Ends
Scored an own goal for Bolton by kicking the ball into his own face. Got so many mistakes in him. Once the whole situation has cleared up he needs a fresh start somewhere else for his career. Had one good season for Shrewsbury but thats it.
League One and Two Seasons Could Be Ended Next Week
I think it will be abandoned but they should do 2 promoted and 3 relegated. Only automatic promotion places should mean promotion. It is the fairest solution, of course some teams will be annoyed but so much of the season has been played, you can't just say it doesn't count.
Bundesliga getting going again in mid May, although I am sure we are a few weeks behind them. I think the Premier League will be played to a finish.
Leagues One and Two May Not Be Completed
I do agree that it is increasingly difficult to play out the rest of this season through the summer but it is outrageous that certain teams will avoid almost certain relegation because of this. Southend and Bolton in particular are certain to go down and could be spared.
The Premier League is slightly different. Liverpool will obviously be declared champions and the top four will go into the Champions League. Most other leagues in Europe look likely to declare champions if they are obviously going to win, Belgium and France for example.
The issue of relegation is more complicated. Norwich look highly likely to go down, yet if they are spared they would get another year of Premier League money and Leeds/West Brom would miss out.
Additionally what happens to European football next season? Champions League and Europa League qualifying normally starts in June.
Football Could Return in June - Report
Hope this goes ahead. Only right the season is completed when it is reasonable to do so. We are all speculating but other countries such as Spain are planning to finish their seasons in the summer. In a way not finishing the season is more complicated from a financial and legal point of view. What happens to all the extra money Premier League teams receive? 3 clubs would unfairly receive another year of those payments and 3 in the Championship wouldnt, which is an amount of money which can seriously change the future of a football club.
Of course we must only return to sport when it is same to do so but it is only fair to complete the season. There should be no rush though, complete the season and then readjust the next couple of seasons to return to the normal calendar.
Joint Statement: No Decisions Taken Today, Discussions to Continue
We won’t see any football for a while. Next season will be disrupted too so once this has settled down, however long that takes, the current season should be completed. I don’t think any decision has to be made soon as nothing will change for a while.
Premier League, EFL and PFA Issue Joint Statement
Won't be any football for a while but the season should be completed. What happens when we return in October or something? Wont be able to have next season as their would be such a backlog of fixtures. We would surely just complete the rest of season season, all competitions and stagger it a bit. A week between each game and stretch it out to reach the Euros in summer 2021
UEFA President: Season Could Be Lost
We have to complete the season at some point but only when its safe to do so. Whether that's in June or the autumn or even later. Financial implications are huge. We don't need to rush and make a decision. Next season is going to be massively disrupted too. Complete the current season once it is safe to do so.
O'Neill: We Still Back Completing Season
Why is everyone so desperate to make a decision already. Lets see how this plays out. I agree that the season should be completed however long that takes and only when it is safe to do so. What if these restriction measures stay in place until October? Next season will be impossible to complete with a Euros in 2021. Teams would need a preseason meaning we could only start a month or so after it is safe to do so. Complete the current season.
The financial implications for clubs are huge as well. For example Norwich are highly likely to be relegated and yet if they finish the season now and they are saved, they would receive another 120 million from the Premier League. West Brom on the other hand are in their last year of parachute payments and Leeds have just paid a lot to extend Bielsa's contract.
We all want a solution and we want to see football back of course. We will have to wait a while but when it is safe to do so we should complete the season and then readjust the calendar.
UEFA: Season Must Finish By End of June
No way is this going to happen. I think next season will be affected too. Do teams who look likely to be relegated from the Premier League this season get an additional year of parachute payments? The easiest thing is giving Liverpool the league, the most difficult aspect of this is the promotion/relegation and sorting out the European places. Leeds and West Brom in particular will be absolutely fuming if the season is cancelled. Coventry in this league would be angry too.
Finish this season once it is safe to do so and then gradually readjust the calendar. Start the season in January 2021 and have to run until November 2021 with the Euros in the middle of the season. Then run the following season from January 2022 to October 2022 as it is a winter world cup in Qatar. I think this is the best solution. Then after the World Cup, slowly readjust the European footballing calendar.
O'Neill: Resume the Season When It's Safe to Do So
Hope everyone is staying safe!
I think at this rate the start of next season will be affected. It really is an unprecedented situation. I think this season must be completed however long that takes. Whether we complete the season in the summer or later this year. Then adjust the calendar once its completed. We might have to have a longer gap between seasons but I think its the only fair option, and then because teams would lose money, the FA or Premier League must step in to help them.
Outside of the EFL, fixtures for Champions League/Europa League qualifiers and pre seasons for English teams generally start in mid to late June. I really cannot see how this will happen, therefore next season is going to be a mess which is why I think this season must be finished and then reassess and adjust the following season once its completed.
Players Given 10 Days Off
I actually do see the season being completed in the summer. I don't see how it cant be, obviously next season and the season after that would have to be adjusted.
It is easy to award Liverpool the Premier League title but the difficult aspect is promotion/relegation and European places because of the huge financial aspects. I think once the situation has settled down, however long that takes, the leagues should resume, complete the current season and then reassess how we return to the normal footballing calendar.
Of course certain clubs and teams will be unhappy whatever the outcome is but for now there can be no football. Stay safe people!
EFL Confirm Fixtures Postponed Until 3rd April
I think what will happen is the remaining fixtures will be played but at a much later date, maybe May/June and three fixtures a week and then the Euros will be delayed a year. Either this or the current standings will be the final standings. So 1st, 2nd and 3rd position will be promoted.
Lambert: Fleetwood is a Must-Win Game
Aaron Farmer is one of the linesmen for this game??? He shouldn't be allowed to officiate an Ipswich game, he is from Colchester! I cant imagine he has a neutral view of our club. Seriously surprised someone so local can run the line. Do the EFL not have rules about this sort of stuff?
Against Wycombe he was an absolute shambles. Him and the ref (different ref to tomorrow) were absolutely pathetic in that game. We should have had a goal and Wycombe should not have had a penalty, it was clearly outside the box.
Sunderland 1-0 Ipswich Town - Match Report
The whole team and staff are a load of bottle jobs with no back bone. They’ll send a player out in the week before Wimbledon and Burton to say “we need to bounce back”. We hear this rubbish every single week and they don’t deliver. We can’t beat teams around us and can’t seem to perform for more than 45 mins and even when we perform we cant take advantage of it because we aren’t clinical enough.
Can’t see us getting playoffs now unfortunately. We are in dreadful form. Let’s see what nonsense they’ll come out with after this defeat...
Garbutt and Bishop Out But Huws Fit For Sunderland Trip
I'd be tempted to go to a back four and play Earl at left back and Chambers at right back. Just until Garbutt is back. I just don't think Kenlock is anywhere near good enough for this level. If he left us I genuinely think he'd drop down to National League level. He just doesn't seem to strike the ball properly and has a very strange awkward running style.
Don't mind Donacien on the right so much but will be good to get Vincent-Young back in a few weeks. He and Garbutt can provide a real attacking threat. COYB!
