2 children drowned in the Channel today
at 19:50 10 Sep 2025

I'm interested in whether that's a statistical assertion or an observed or instinctual one.

I've got to know quite a few asylum seekers over the past year, who have been housed in a hotel near us, and although they're reticent to tell their stories straight away, over time I've heard bits of what they've gone through.

One well off middle class family had to flee overnight, I'd say yes, that their lives were in imminent danger.

Another girl arrived in a small boat with her young daughter. I won't repeat her story, but it was harrowing.

Another guy was a scumbag who should never have been let in.

Another family, I don't know their story in much depth, but they're lovely people.

Another family spent years in a refugee camp in eastern Europe before finally being allowed here. They too have a very interesting story.

Something that really frustrates me is how in our society we've conflated refugees with economic migrants. Your phrase, "taken a decision to leave their own country for another one where the chance of a decent life is much higher" would describe an economic migrant, not a refugee. Most refugees I've met don't want to be here, would rather be in their homeland, miss their homeland and would go home if circumstances changed, but due to persecution, abuse or danger, they had to leave.

How many points in Sept? And will we beat Norwich to start Oct?
at 13:29 9 Sep 2025

How many points in September?

Well, Blackburn and Bristol City are both away, so that's 2. Sadly you don't get priority points for home games, but those two will push me into the 25-30 bracket. Yesss.

Did I answer the right question?

Mmm, just clicked through and it works for me. Unless you're a season ticket holder and they go through the same priority levels as the other ticksts? Maybe phone the ticket office. Looks like there are a few £216 in the Hall of Fame that you can buy as singles, but the rest are 8+ groups or more expensive.

Next to the to 'add to basket' button on the tickets website.

Never bought any, but think you maybe have to buy a certain number together - not sure if you can just buy one.

Ref on Saturday
at 11:54 1 Sep 2025

I've heard a few people say at least the ref did one thing right and added time on for the time wasting.

It's not the ref that sets the added time - it's the fourth official. Eustace even said after the game that the ref said to him he was surprised how much the fourth official added on.

The ref was just poor all round - it was the fourth official who noticed the time wasting and set the added time accordingly.

Has anyone got some video of the penalty.. looked soft when I watched it live
at 10:08 24 Aug 2025

Yeah. Even more so from the opposite side behind the goal. Their player fouled Greaves then conned the ref by falling over Greaves. Frustrating, because it gave them something to hold onto early on in the game.

I'm still confident things will come right. Sometimes these little things go against you and change games. I thought Greaves had a really good game, and it wasn't his fault he got fouled and the ref conned.

You are the ref

TownTV commentary said that Hirst may have instigated the contact as he swung back his foot to shoot, and seemed to think a VAR check happened. If so, similar to our disallowed penalty vs Everton at home, which was harsh. I haven't seen it.

Just keep checking the ticketing website during the day for returns. Two just came and went while I'm typing this. If you keep looking, you'll be able to get one.

A bunch of their fans waiting as we left the stand and clapping us and joining in with Sir Bobby songs genuinely brought a tear to my eye. Total respect for Newcastle.

Away ticket offices
at 10:07 25 Apr 2025

I've picked up away tickets four or five times and every single time they've asked for ID. But yeah, just mine (as I bought them), not every single person's ID - only whoever's Supporter ID was used to buy the tickets.

They've been popping up all day. More returns than usual for an away match.

I agree with McKenna....

I think one of the problems with VAR is that the on-field ref doesn't want to make a decisive decision, so plays safe and gives a yellow, thinking if it was worse, then VAR overrules. But VAR now generally just goes with the on-field decision and doesn't get involved.

From upper SAR I thought it was 'orange', but looking down on it from above, I didn't realise Pedro jumped. That's what makes it a red. If he was running and his momentum takes him into Walton then fine, yellow. But the ball was on the ground, and by jumping Pedro was out of control and endangering Walton. It should have been a red.

Weirdly there are six tickets in there again now. They'll probably get snapped up but you never know.

Fair cop, yeah, they should have sent it back. No, I'm not happy about it, and I probably won't do it again.

Yeah, I'm stuck on 19 but my daughter's on 22 now. We go to games together, so I've had to either go in the home end or go on someone else's ticket. The most annoying thing is that earlier in the season I had chances to get that extra point, but because I had other commitments, didn't get it knowing other people would want to go just as much as me. Kind of wish I'd been more selfish now. Oh well. My main message to people in higher brackets would be if you can't go, send your ticket back - don't just keep them for the point - you're already guaranteed most games, and getting a ticket on resale is probably going to be the only way I get onto 20 points.

I live in the Midlands - not a season ticket holder either. Every match (home or away) costs a lot in travel let alone the tickets. It's an expensive thing, going to matches. My Man City supporting mate tells me I should just watch on the TV like him as it's cheaper, warmer, and you don't get stuck in traffic jams.

Totally agree with you. A season ticket is for home games. It's right that the two systems home and away are separate (other than both requiring membership).

Oh, totally agree with you on the season ticket idea - unworkable. I meant indignant about potentially missing the Bournemouth game - see earlier in the thread.
