Remember that Turner miss. Good job that the game was already won but didn’t swear too much as if it hadn’t been for his goal at Bristol Rovers in the 5th round we wouldn’t had been in the semi-final.
Celebrated this more than the actual final itself. Remember at the final whistle just finding it hard to believe that the team I supported was going to Wembley. My thoughts immediately went back to how I felt coming out of Stamford Bridge in 75 after we had been robbed against West Ham and at that time wondering if we would ever get another chance to get to the final. God knows what time I got home from Highbury that night as the celebrations on reaching Wembley seemed to go on for ever.
Went to the home game and the 2nd replay at Filbert Street. From the home game remember when Johnson hit the bar and walking out after the 2nd replay at Filbert Street convinced that it was the year that our name was on the trophy especially as we had already beaten Liverpool earlier on in the competition. However, a certain referee had different ideas in the semi-final. Attended both the semi-final games and remember coming out of Stamford Bridge feeling the most gutted that I’ve ever felt in my 53 years of following the Town.
Was there. Was on the Cobbold terrace and even in there you couldn’t move. Good job it was not now as the bladder would never have held out for 90 minutes.
Liverpool were in the European Cup that season and went on to beat Real Madrid in the final so a lot of the media attention was focussed on them. Also, I think it was a case of the media not acknowledging how good a side St Etienne were at that time and what an achievement it was for us to beat them by that scoreline on their own ground.
As we are the only Premiership side not to win a league game in 2025 then it is difficult to see how our fortunes are going to change and we put a winning run together. Imo today was probably the last nail in the coffin.
Can’t see us playing our strongest 11. Game against Man Utd the Wednesday before the cup tie, 3 away games in about 10 days including Palace on the 8th March just don’t think McKenna will risk some of his key players for Forest.
My first visit to Anfield following Town was in February 1974 for a FA Cup tie which we lost 2-0. The last time I was there with Town was May 2002 which was our last game in the Premiership that season and we all know how long it took us to get back. One that brought me most joy was the 1-0 win in December 2000 when Stewart scored the only goal of the game. Think I’ve still got a bit of a headache from the celebrations after the game now.
