Still got a lot of the backroom staff in place though so looking like they’ll be recruiting a new Head Coach rather than a Manager with his own backroom team.
It's essentially a Head Coach role rather than a manager role so either McKenna or Brentford would have to compromise.
If Mbuemo goes, whoever goes there next is going to have a big job raising their stock—if you keep selling your best player, eventually you'll become unstuck, and I'd say Frank overachieved.
Brighton was the job he should have taken. I'm glad he stayed however he must have known deep down that relegation would be the likely scenario given the huge jump in two seasons.
I've seen that we're trying to negotiate a smaller fee than the obligation and some random Napoli fan on Reddit reckons €7.5m has been agreed. I reckon that's on par with Football Insider as a source!
I might be wrong but I'm not sure Brentford are the perfect fit for him as Frank was more a Head Coach with support staff chosen by the club whilst McKenna currently has far more control at Ipswich and gets to choose his own staff. I imagine Brentford will be looking to keep most of their staff on board even if Frank goes.
From a sporting point of view, I'd prefer a short window in the off-season so that clubs start the season knowing their squads and having time for the players to train together. However, that'll never happen as the extended shenanigans are too much fun for the media.
I thought it was a bit scandalous that when we went back to Adidas, they didn't give us that Ipswich template for a season. Hopefully, it'll happen if we use them after Umbro.
When we signed him there were plenty moaning that we'd spent £15m on a lad that had an average season with Hull so would have laughed at the figure of the release clause.
Doubt he is - deal doesn't get done without the clause so we make £0 profit.
I'm not sure if as many clubs would have been in if the price had been £50m. He's got great promise and physical attributes, but he's still incredibly raw and has a lot of areas to improve on in order to become an elite striker.
Read something a while back where he was described as a pressing machine. There probably won't be many better striker loanees available from the Prem unless Ferguson becomes available.
Given the size of the club now Ashton shouldn’t be getting involved here. You’d think he’d set the Academy budget and then give the senior staff in the Academy the autonomy to set wage levels as long as they kept within their budget. It seems pointless running the Academy if we don’t invest in good coaches.
McKenna likes to utilise his squad. For the Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday weeks I can imagine quite a bit of rotation so not sure we need to worry if he’ll manage 46 games.
