 | Forum Thread | Morrell set to sign for Pompey tomorrow? at 22:16 9 Aug 2021
Seems an increasing confidence that Joe Morrell will sign for Pompey tomorrow, according to a few people their end. I have been very impressed with both Evans and Harper so far in a Town shirt so thought it would be odd if Morrell joins us knowing that he is likely to be third choice. Obviously all whispers etc, think the idea of signing Morrell ahead of Pompey was more exciting than the actual signing himself within some of our fans. We shall see. |

Yeah it could be another few weeks for any development on that one. Not seen many actual transfers involving money yet, frees and mutual termination (not forgetting our brilliant business with Hawkins of course!). |

Surely the news coming from Derby today will put them out of the running for him? We all need remember its quality over quantity this summer and Crooks would certainly fit the bill. |

Not nothing unusual, pretty generic answers to some very generic questions. Looking forward to seeing Portman Road full Making it a fortress Picked out a couple of fixtures with Wigan and Charlton in the run in Expect the team to be at the top of the division Team may take a little time to gel |

Agreed, like I posted in the OP nothing groundbreaking. Saw on Twitter he was on the show so thought I’d have a listen and highlight for others. I’m sure Phil / EADT will do a little write up at some point. |

Spoke on BBC Radio Suffolk this morning. Not sure how to copy and paste link but it’s from 3hrs 12 in on the Mark Murphy breakfast show. Nothing ground breaking but some might want a listen. |

Perhaps would mean Scott Fraser moves on? Would struggle to see how Fraser, Twine and Bishop all for in the same side. What would we class as good business for Bishop? £100k? Doubt we could get much more as only one year left on deal? |

Yeah I’m not completely sure on that approach either. I know Brentford have had good success using a similar method in recent years. Barnsley would be an interesting move for Downes, if it is them. At an age where he would want to ‘kick on’ and play at the highest possible level, I would be disappointed if we are not ahead of Barnsley in the next couple of seasons. |

Yeah that’s a fair point. Wasn’t sure on their approach on transfers and who made the signings etc. Nixon has said that the compensation is £2m for the manager parting to WBA so perhaps they could be reinvesting some (hopefully a large percentage) in Downes. Certainly a come down from the heights of Crystal Palace last summer…. |

The one of a few people who seems to have some credibility on Twitter for transfers etc. Wasn’t sure about him at first and he seemed to have got several team selections wrong with flag emojis if I remember rightly. But his transfer news is pretty much spot on. Certainly no cruncher that’s for sure, let’s not open that can of worms! [Post edited 22 Jun 2021 23:18]

The only real ‘in the know’ guy on Twitter has spoken… for those who want to know what he said, I think I’ve copied below. No great surprises both could be on their way. In terms of fees, what are we thinking? Downes looking at £1.5m + or is that too ambitious now? Barnsley reported interest, could West Brom now be keen based on new manager? Bishop an odd one, Cambridge the obvious link but in terms of a fee? |

Surely the new manager is being lined up and everything will all happen within an hour or so of each other. Or that could just be wishful thinking........ |

It seems he is happy to let the club tread water until the season is over (mathematically not able to achieve promotion). Clearly something in place in terms of PL's contract and a settlement if not gained promotion / play-offs. If ME wanted promotion at all costs this year, PL would have been gone by now. The added pressure of the salary cap has now been removed, so not quite sh*t or bust this year as previously thought. |
