The data is irrelevant if the argument against it's use on here was purely down to it being illegal. Which is not the case. |

As previously mentioned, I'd be very keen to see the data from almost every other league in world football where this is commonplace, as to the extent of problems it causes. Rightly for some and wrongly for others, football in this country is sanitised more than anywhere else. The MLS let some fella chop wood with a chainsaw after every goal they score. And in Germany, perhaps the league and football culture most aligned with ourselves, the use of pyro is as big as anywhere. |

In a couple of weeks nobody will be any more interested in the women’s game than they were before the women’s euros. It’s just another crusade for people to go on. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the women’s game just plodding along in the background. Not everything in this world needs to be equal, especially when the disparity in quality, entertainment and revenue is so vast. |

Would be a good signing for Watford. They've never really replaced Paul Furlong. |

As much as I'm not a fan of Norwood and Bishop and would not be sad to see them both moved on, I think you are over thinking this. They are entitled to a break like anyone else. That said, I would much prefer to see insta pictures of our players from a Gym or showing that the hard work for next season starts now. Especially those two who have poor fitness records. It's a short career and everything is put under the microscope, sometimes they just need to play the game a bit. |
| Forum Reply | Would you support the banning of heading a football? at 12:36 20 May 2021
Absolutely not and thankfully can't see it ever happening. I'd like to see the statistics on how many footballers have gone on to suffer illnesses as a result of heading a football in their career where it can be solely attributed to football. How many in the last 20 years have suffered any change in brain function where footballs have become lighter? We have to be careful we don't live in a world where every single risk is considered and changed regardless of the outcome. I'm pretty certain, very few footballers would want this and even less fans. It's part and parcel of the job in my opinion and would change the face of the game forever. For example, they'd be very little need for big centre backs who are less technical. It'd be easy to name a long list of players almost instantly who have made a career from being a dominating centre back at Town. What's next, no head punches in boxing? No overarm serves in tennis? Touch tackling in rugby? What I would say, is that I'd be amazed if there's an issue with this in the future. Gone are the days where players would spend hours heading a ball in training and that's probably the key change, if any, that's need to be looked at. |
| Forum Reply | Maybe Cook hasn’t told the like of Downes, Dozzell Jr at 12:31 14 May 2021
He definitely wants them out. He has 12 months max in his job if he doesn't get us up or a close 3rd with a record points total for not going up. Not one of those players (maybe Norwood aside) showed anything like being good enough to feature regularly in a side wanting promotion and Cook knows that. He's seen what a promotion squad looks like. I just don't get the outrage regarding Dozzell, Downes, Bishop and Woolf. If anyone can recall one game in which any of those dominated it then I'd love to know it. Wilson was our player of the year and Holy second. That alone tells you that none of those would be missed and had they not come through the academy, nobody would care one iota. They are 22, not kids anymore. They have a relegation and 2 mid table 3rd tier finishes on their CV and all play in a position which dictates games. I'd get shot of them all if I was Cook and had essentially 12 months max to make it work. |

Nico is top class. As Joe says, the U16's are a brilliant crop of youngsters and if we can keep hold of them, 4 or 5 have the potential to eclipse anything that has come out of the academy for many years. |

Even he himself said recently he needs to get better and more influential at both ends of the pitch. If he did a really sound defensive job you'd overlook the lack of ouput going forward. I do get that he's a relatively defensive midfielder but you'd expect more. Even if you take it back it step, he doesn't pass through the thirds in to the forward areas. The majority of his passing (hence is high completion rate) is sideways and back wards. It's not that I don't rate him technically, I just don't feel like he influences games and will never have that in his game. |
| Forum Reply | dozzell at 10:28 29 Apr 2021
He doesn't. His neat and tidy but no goals and 1 assist in 40 League 1 games is a poor return. I appreciate he's sitting deep but he doesn't offer protection to the back 4. He's there to tick the game over. I actually think technically he's good, but anybody could look good on the ball doing his role. It's the easiest on the pitch. |
| Forum Reply | dozzell at 10:22 29 Apr 2021
Are they hot property? We'd have sold anyone for a decent fee last summer. If Palace had really wanted Downes, they'd have got him. Had anyone really wanted Dozzell, they'd have got him. |
| Forum Reply | dozzell at 09:53 29 Apr 2021
I more mean possession in the right areas. It's easy to have 60% possession deep in your own half and that's where Dozzell plays. It's safe and easy. He would no doubt look better with better players but that's the same with everyone. In his 40 appearances this season, he's failed to score and registered 1 assist. Yes it's a struggling team but good players still stand out. The biggest issue is I don't think anybody knows what type of player he is. I don't think he can play in a 2, he's not defensively effective enough for me to sit and doesn't do enough in the final third when he does get there. He's a problem that we might not be able to solve. |
| Forum Reply | dozzell at 09:17 29 Apr 2021
Dozzell is a weird situation. He is obviously technically good but I cannot recall one game in his career where he has dominated the midfield and effected the game in the right areas. I'm not even sure I can recall a half. Dozzell had the luxury of being hugely rated at England youth level because in his own age group he stands out like a beacon. Against proper men who deny him time, I'm not sure he really effects games. He doesn't get goals, doesn't create and offers little protection defensively. What he does do is keep the ball and keep it moving. Which is fine, if your a good side who dominates the ball, but we aren't. So maybe in some ways it's unfair to judge but equally, his influence on games is limited imo. I think he'd look sensational in a side which has 60% + possession, but those sides are few and far between. |
| Forum Reply | Couldn't we have kept Judge for the bench? (n/t) at 12:05 19 Apr 2021
The issue was if he was to get injured then the club have an obligation to support him through his rehab. The club don't want to be tied to a non contracted player. Makes perfect sense. |
| Forum Reply | If we need a fresh start, that means Chambers has to go at 12:51 14 Apr 2021
I heard someone on the radio a week or so ago saying Chambers was a terrible captain because you don't see him "telling people where to be". The simplicity of people is astounding sometimes. I saw a Roy Keane interview the other day and he said he offered up very little by way words to players his role as captain was quite often just making sure the players pool was done and end of season events and nights out. You want a captain to of course show they care and he clearly does that. If he wasn't captain and had never done a fist pump this wouldn't even be a discussion. He's been far better than Woolfenden and Toto imo |
| Forum Reply | Is there something in a loan manager at 12:44 14 Apr 2021
The players aren't good enough. Getting loan players of any quality out is easy....but only if they are good enough. Quite often the youngsters go on trial pre loan which is never really mentioned. Ndaba for example was on trial at Crawley with a view to a loan and they didn't want him after that. The only clubs that have them have vast amounts of players out on loan that they need to manage and who simply view the player as an asset to sell. We are not in that position. |
| Forum Reply | If we need a fresh start, that means Chambers has to go at 09:04 14 Apr 2021
Because many will have you believe he's the reason for the mentality. Nobody knows. Maybe he's a reason as to why it's not worse? There is zero evidence to suggest that Chambers has had any negative effect on the sides mentality. |
