Town Confirm Jewell's Exit
at 13:42:18

I agree it's a decision that had to be made but I do feel sorry for Jewell. There's something wrong at the very core of the club which goes deeper than whoever is manager. Those coming on here suggesting Jewell knew nothing about football are idiots. He's a football man through and through and I thought that was just the kind of manager we needed when he was appointed. I don't doubt he's made mistakes but there's more to it then that.

Who's next? Hard to get away from the feeling that with Curbishley you're getting a carbon copy of Jewell - success at 'family' club, experience of getting teams promoted and keeping them in the top division, been out of the game for a while'.

A fresh, bright talent is very appealing but if there is something wrong at the heart of the club then it might take a strong, experienced character to sort it out.

Paolo Di Canio would be fun.

Jewell Delighted With Third Successive Win
at 14:49:12

Just to show there are some people in football even more insane than some of the 'characters' we get on this blog - Huddersfield have sacked Lee Clark who has lost two games in about 3 years.

That's right Jas0999, a pep talk from the chairman is guaranteed to turn things around. Look how well it worked at Wolves. Chairman steams in after a crap performance; manager has authority totally undermined; team lose next game 5-1 at home to local rivals; manager gets sacked. Brilliant.

I think our owner's probably a bit brighter than that.

Jewell: We Were Hopeless
at 11:01:57

Typical Ipswich. Play great football against top 6 teams, win games, score goals, unbeaten then we come up against a team in the lower half of the division at home - we get complacent, don't perform and.......hang on, and we still win. That strikes me as very un-Ipswich like behaviour. And I mean that in the most positive sense.

Jewell: Doesn\'t Feel Like an Overhaul
at 11:57:34

Report on BBC Sport website about number of international players still without a club because they've been holding out for too much money, now realising that they're going to have to take big wage drop to get a contract - mentions Matthew Upson. He'd do.

Town Right Club for Stockdale
at 13:22:27

Fair enough, Doctor - sorry to appear touchy, it's just the whole 'no one in their right mind would want to live in London' thing wearies me. Every property programme seems to be about people escaping the rat race and getting out of London for a 'better life'. Well, I wish they'd all bugger off as it would leave more room for those of us who like living here.

I don't drive, I cycle and trips on the tube and bus are the highlights of the day for my kids, although I grant you less fun for the parents.

Sorry, this is supposed to be about football isn't it?

'Can totally understand him bringing his family here, I love London, but bringing up a family there? nightmare! '

Why? I've got a 5 year old and a 2 year old and we seem to manage in London quite well, as do all the other families in our community. And if the Stockdales are living in Fulham on premier league wages they're not battling through the ghetto on a daily basis are they?

Wickham Set for Sunderland Medical
at 22:33:46

I think it's a curious move for Wickham who has time on his side and could easily get forgotten about if he doesn't perform in the Premiership. Teams like Sunderland don't spend £9 million on players with the intention of playing them in the reserves for a couple of seasons to see how they develop. He has to play and perform from the start and from what I saw last season he's not ready for that.

I saw him play up front in the Cup at Stamford Bridge last season - admittedly in a poor and demoralised team - and he didn't get a kick.

It would have been nice to have seen him develop into the player I think he can be with us but realistically it doesn't work like that any more.

The key - as others have said - is that Jewell gets the money to spend. We were told he didn't need to be sold. If that's the case then there's no reason why the money shouldn't be reinvested.

Turkish Club Target Fülöp

Think there's a good chance Rangers number one MacGregor will be on his way this summer so Alexander may end up as Number One - can't see him wanting to move.

Jewell: We Never Looked Like Scoring
at 10:40:12

"this media man will take us nowhere..neither down nor up..he is a mouth on a little fat stick.. "

That's right, just like he didn't take Bradford and Wigan up (and keep them there).

You can't possibly judge Jewell until well into next season. There was no way he was going to be able to do anything other than damage limitation in the transfer/loan window. For a start he had to assess the players he inherited. And then the market in January is incredibly difficult - any decent player in any team still fighting for promotion/against relegation is going to be hard to get.

Look at a team like Arsenal - they might still be in with a chance of winning something if they'd bought a decent keeper and some centre backs in January but you can't just pick up quality at short notice.

As someone else said, Bullard - his main signing - has already been worth 6 points to us since he arrived.

This summer will be the real test - of both Jewell and Evans/Clegg. Painful though it may be there's something to be said for being glad about performances like last night as it's showing Jewell the true colours of some players. If we'd finished the season on a real high it might have encouraged him to paper over the cracks.

Jewell: Better Side in the First Half But Didn\'t Threaten Enough
at 10:30:05

It's pace we need up front as much as a natural goalscorer. I only live down the road from QPR (part of the reason I was released from childcare duties to see my first game in ages) and had a few beers with a couple of mates who are QPR season ticket holders before the game. They were really worried about their back 4 saying it was slow and square but we never exploited that, never got behind them or made them turn.

Maybe that's down to playing one up front. Playing up to JS with his back to goal just let their big defenders knock him off the ball.

At half time I thought we could push on and win it and I think next season Jewell would probably have switched to 442 and had a real go. Maybe he doesn't quite trust the team enough to do that yet.

Agree with all those supporting McAuley and Delaney - thought they were both excellent. Yes Delaney's distribution isn't great but his main job is to defend and he does that well.

Jewell: Better Side in the First Half But Didn\'t Threaten Enough
at 23:52:35

First game I've seen live for a long while (apart from the Chelsea 7-0 which doesn't count). Agree with what Jewell says, we were comfortable for 60 minutes and easily on a par with QPR. But we seemed to run out of belief (maybe because we weren't creating chances) and stopped playing through midfield.

Back 4 looked OK, Edwards a bit shaky but recovered well. Missed Healy when he went off, midfield a bit lightweight without him. Bullard played too deep. It's all very well wanting the ball all the time but if that means collecting it on the edge of your own area all the time then our best player isn't hurting the opposition.

Scotland can't play the lone striker role. He may be a goal scorer but the ball bounced off him too easily and he didn't cause two big but slow centre halves enough problems.

But I don't think we're far off and a couple more signings should see us up there next season.
