Pretty sure Gallagher said that the defender was standing his ground. That would imply that Chaplin ran into him which is clearly nonsense. I have watched the incident several times and have tried not to use my blue tinted glasses and I simply cannot see how any of the explanations given to support the referee's decision make any sense whatsoever. I was not sure that the Jack Clarke incident in the Everton game was a foul but it wasn't a glaringly obvious error by the ref and yet the penalty was overturned. As there was a case for not giving a penalty I think the decision could have gone either way so although disappointed I did not feel a sense of injustice. Try as I might I cannot see how the incident on Saturday was not a foul on Chaplin. If it is a foul then it is a penalty, end of story. VAR was presumably intended to reassure supporters and clubs that in the majority of cases on field errors by the officials in potentially match changing moments would be corrected. If VAR is not achieving that then one of the main reasons for having it disappears. The lack of consistency continues despite the technology and it is difficult not to feel disillusioned. I have been going to matches at Portman Road since 1967 and I cannot remember ever feeling more fed up at the end of a game than I did on Saturday. It is not just that Ipswich had the rough end of things that annoyed me but also the sheer frustration that the game itself is still suffering from dreadful adjudications despite the resources that have been poured into the VAR technology and officials. As ever Kieran McKenna was polite and restrained in his post match reaction but he was clearly furious. If VAR is to stay the powers that be must get a grip and sort it out. |

Thanks to you all for your kind good wishes. Going to take it even easier than usual for a few days. Looks like there will be plenty of ITFC speculation/news to read to pass the time. Very sorry to hear about Paul Cook as he seemed a good bloke. I think we just needed to see gradual improvement but it was not there over the last couple of months and the same problems repeated themselves. Not sure that these days you can rely on one formation and just interchange the personnel. Fingers crossed for next appointment. |

I am the person who had the seizure. Thanks for your good wishes. Home now after scan and blood tests etc. Cannot thank the stewards and the NHS enough for looking after me so well. |
