It was clearly hyperbole but what else was he going to say? He could have said "We'll take our time and make sure we negotiate hard" and fans would have had been on his back straight away. Fans need to take what CEOs say with a pinch of salt.
If we win tomorrow HMS Piss The League will be setting sail and we'll win the league at a canter. If we lose we're doing another Luton! What will the mood be tomorrow? I expect the reality will be somewhere between the two extremes....we'll probably draw as well.
Leeds drew their first match last season, against a newly promoted side (scoring the equaliser in 90+5) and they got knocked out it the first round of the league cup. Their season didn't turn out too badly.
I don't dismiss a lot of your points. The buck ultimately stops with Ashton so whilst you can't pin one bad transfer on him the overall strategy is what he'll be judged on. I don't have enough information to know if it's a happy camp or not. It's clear confidence isn't exactly brimming though and there are rumblings of discontent, but I don't know how deep that goes.
I've always assumed the ownership group wouldn't waste any time getting rid of Ashton if they'd lost faith in him. Maybe what you say is close to the truth but I'm not sure.
I think there's still plenty of time to turn the ship around. Leeds drew their first match last season to a newly promoted side and got knocked out in the first round of the cup so the season could still pan out in a number of ways.
He's not immune from criticism but he's also not responsible for what happens on the pitch. The only influence he has over that is the hiring and firing of coaching staff. Maybe we need review of our recruitment process but how do you know they're not doing that already? If you're going to criticise at least be more constructive.
I don't think you can really pin the blame on Ashton for the targets, that's down to the recruitment team as a whole. Yes, Ashton is responsible for getting deals done but you can't put Muric on him, for example. There is (or should be) a whole team behind this (including McKenna obviously).
That's very true but isn't she some sort of make-up/beauty influencer (each to their own if people are into that sort of thing)? A few people seem to be getting a bit upset by her posts for some reason.
