Why did the media and police lie so readily

Leeds would have taken more.

If there was an election today, who would get your vote?
at 17:33 16 Sep 2025

Agreed, I suspect at the very least they’ll get 120-130 MP’s at the next election.

FFS. Really sad news, always enjoyed watching him fight and listening to him in interviews.

Many/most insurers will be prepared to give cover but rates are typically 25-50% higher for timber framed homes.

Two points of order :
1. A frequent contributor to this forum pulled me up for calling it Battenberg, claiming it should be described as Window Cake.
2. Irrespective of what its proper names, it is delicious and any view to the contrary is wrong.

Farage is a traitor
at 19:48 3 Sep 2025

At the risk of sounding like Mark Ashton, deploying 5 armed officers to arrest this guy is giving Farage et al the oxygen they crave.I think front line police have a difficult enough job as it is, without their senior leadership making p*ss poor operational decisions like this. No wonder Starmer and Streeting told them to better prioritise.

It’s a shame but she has to go. Your position is untenable if you can’t follow the rules, however complex. She’s been a target for years, this will be the final nail.
On the plus side, 18 months on the backbench is normally sufficient punishment/rehabilitation, so there’s a pathway back to Cabinet.

When someone asks you

Started school in 1976, most of the kids were Liverpool fans and I wanted to be a little different so picked Ipswich. First game was Jan 1980, never looked back!

You lot are so funny!

For 2.5 years we had a very special group, the bond with fans was like going’s back in time. The new crop might well achieve more but it seems unlikely that they will have the same emotional impact. I think we have in essence become a normal club again. It’s sad but I remind myself of where we were pre gamechanger/KMc. Still much to be happy about I’m comparison to 4 years ago.

Someone has painted a Red Cross on a mini roundabout in Colchester, actually looks rather nice. It is also impressive that it was done without closing the road for 2-3weeks ahead of the work being done.

Reform are dangerous - pt. 2,675,823

I find it astonishing that a relatively small number of people trying to access this country gets far more political attention than the economy, nhs, social care, climate change etc. Similarly, we seem to spend huge amounts of time on identity politics. It’s almost as if the bigger issues are too difficult to solve so we’ll squabble about these instead.

Me too, right back to school days. Hate that early September period with the evenings drawing in, Halloween and Bonfire Night being advertised etc. Like you, after a week I’m ok but those first few days are awful : however many times I remind myself that it will soon pass. Strangely, although I am a bit bah humbug, I usually crash about 27th Dec as well, knowing that Xmas is over and spring is way off.
Hope this reply helped lift your spirits!

Most painful transfers ever
at 17:15 15 Aug 2025

Mills, Mariner, and Butch leaving were the ones that really stung me from the ‘81 side.
I have some very left field examples too, Trevor Putney (mostly because he joined Norwich), Kevin Wilson, David Lowe, and Bobby Petta!

Euro McDouble Burger: False Memory?

With apologies for going off topic somewhat…..
My wife and children struggle to accept that for a limited time McDonalds used to sell Pizzas. I thought they were great and was gutted when they were withdrawn. Apparently, this makes me an idiot as “you wouldn’t go to Pizza Hut to get a cheeseburger”.

70's Violent chants

I too understand our firm was called the Ipswich Punishment Squad. I’ve previously been told that we didn’t have the numbers of other clubs but were quite game and punched above our weight somewhat. A former Norwich supporting colleague of mine once placed an NHS badge on my desk, this was apparently a subtle reference to the Norwich Hospital Squad which was evidently our main rival.

Remember your first time......

Aug 1980, first home game of the season, a routine 2-0 win over Brighton. It was a Tuesday night under the lights and I was in awe at everything. Stood in front of barrier 171 in Churchmans to avoid getting jostled too much, that became my spot for several years before I earned promotion, first to the West Stand Terrace before reaching the Holy Grail of the North Stand.
