Hi .
i am so grateful for these twtd posts - thank you - and the nod to the old players from the Club - whatever age and era. My dad and i watched hundreds of matches thru the years and i can just about remember watchin him play .... In those days huge crowds watched every week / first and reserve teams. i have his contracts which show they earned about £7 / £10 a week + half more if win or draw. He used to walk to the ground on match days and train locally on the parks.before that tho' at the age of 18 like many thousands of other young people at the time he was whisked of to war , the RAF. But of course when the war finished 7 or so years later it was hard to pick up the pieces and follow your dreams. On of the few to score on his debut v northampton - but loved the game so much. I know he learnt ball skills playing with a tennis ball under a gas lamp in Rose Lane ips - different era same passion..... lovely man. great dad and friend. |
