Football Got Better the Day I Stopped Caring
at 12:26:15

I really enjoyed this post and the points raised really struck a chord. My biggest hate in modern football is the craving for instant success from chairman to fan, managers are sacked via fan pressure or trigger happy chairmen. Fans boo and man rather than support and allow teams time to develop. Only one team can win a cup or a league, only three teams are promoted so what clarifies failure is it finishing 7th or relegation.
Fans who support clubs below the championship have suffered such as Stockport, Tranmere, Lincoln, Halifax, Chester, Wrexham, Grimsby and Luton all relegated to non league and some now doing better than others. These clubs fans have every right to be devastated but they stay loyal and stick by their club, lot worse than 15 years in the championship.

St Ledger Deal Could Still Happen
at 12:19:15

casanovacrow you put it exactly correct.

We will be a league 1 team, no saleable assets, a huge wage bill and still a squad with no hunger or desire to get us out of that league.

I got excited when I saw Tubbs mentioned, but as usual a player that would fit the hunger and desire PJ states he wants he is not interested in.

I did hear that while we wait on St Ledger PJ is talking to Mark Bright and Steve Claridge, both fit his age bracket and type of over the hill player he loves.

Jewell Apologises for Worst Defeat in Management
at 15:07:45

Two of the best examples from Scotland are Graham Dorrens at WBA signed for £200,000 from Livingston, Snodgrass also from Livingston and Charlie Adam was £500,000 from Rangers. Craig Conway (winger) was the player we were linked to, he is at Cardiff.
Loads of untapped talent, but our scouting network seems to be non existant. I swear we scout by watching Match of the Day, wouldnt be quite so bad if we stayed tuned in for the football league show. So maybe just maybe we could say oh look at that LeFondra lad scoring for Rotherham again, looks like a possible signing.
League One, League Two, Blue Square Premier, SPL, Scots Div One have lots of very good players that are ready to step up. Peterborough, Leeds, Norwich, WBA, Blackpool, Southampton are examples of teams who have followed this and got promotion. Middlesborough are an example of throwing money at useless overpaid players and sinking like a stone.
For god sake while we have financial stability lets look at the hungry ambitious players before we sink to League one, ME buggers off, administrators come in, no money and we start to struggle to attract a Bury Town player.

Blackpool are a great example of how to do it. Take players such as DJ Campbell and Charlie Adam who failed to impress at the top levels in England and Scotland but both knew they had the ability and were desperate to show it. Blackpool signed them, put them out there and they played their hearts out trying to prove a point. Also Seamus Coleman from Everton on loan, a plyer with bags of talent and there to say to his manager OI look at me Im good ernough for your team. We have this in Stockdale and had it in Gio and to an extent Bullard.
But Bowyer etc have nothing to prove, nothing to play for, see Ipswich as a step down, know they are not gonna play for a big club again so on an easy pay day.

Bleedingblue I totally agree, ive been saying this since last season. We have proved it to ourselves with Cresswell, he trys hard and gives it his all. There are plenty of other players out there, in Scotland as well. These clubs are not rich and a moderate offer can mostly lead to them reluctantly agreeing to sell. We need players who go out and think I am so proud to be here, look around and say I cant let thos fans down so I must try my hardest today. Not oh well I get payed, not as good as my days at Leeds but at my age Im just looking to end my days without any injueries so wont try too hard.
We need a back three (excluding LB) a midfielder (so we can drive Leadbitter down to Portsmoth and say just take him, he is yours) and a striker, someone who is big and hungry to achieve (shame Norwich got him first) but seriously someone in that mold along side chops.

I dont know if it was football suicide or stupidity that we knew one of key central defenders was leaving so we let Tro Brown depart as well. Leaving one first choice centre back and two guys that have been out on loan and struggled so big question marks over them. Why oh why did sick note from Reading seem to be a good option rather than look to the lower leagues, scotland and abroad for a good solid centre back who would be happy to come to us, see it as a step up and most importantly be a smaller transfer fee as the Premiership and rich championship clubs look to household names like Matthew Upson etc.

But this has been the whole problem with the club in the summer, spend all day looking at the obvious. Players looking for one final last good pay day, see the pound signs and dont care what the shirt is. Well suprise suprise with our budget we signed none of them.

When oh when will our owner and cheif exec wake up and look at other successful clubs with a stature similar to ours. The shower from up the road beat us home and away on course to promotion, why for the love of god did they not think hang on a minute what are they doing we are not?? OH YES they look to players who see a move to Norwich as a step up, proud to wear the shirt, proud to run tackle and give a 100% for 90 minutes for the club. Other clubs such as Leeds and our victors last night have followed the same lead. With a small wage budget and no big transfer fund there are three things to do, look to your youth system, buy from the lower leagues and tap unknown talent from abroad. We are failing on all fronts, but remember when we did consult these sources rather that sit looking at premiership journey men.

Supporters\' Club: Grow Up or Stay Away
at 10:58:20

I full defence of Section 6 what they have tried to do is follow the lead of many other english and scottish clubs to establish an ultras group. They want to fight against modern football and the sterile atmosphere created by all seater stadiums.
PR is one ground where atmosphere has been severley lacking for a long time and is this created by the poor team performances or has the lack of atmosphere added to the demise of the team.
In europe most clubs have at least one ultras group such as Gate 13, Torceda and the Bad Blue Boys. These groups have a particular area of the ground and bring a superb atmosphere through diplays, smoke, banners and singing mostly led by a cappo standing at the front with a megaphone. Opposition players face a wall of noise and passion wether it be champions league or bottom of the league.

Section 6 tried to bring this sort of passion to PR, but with not stand or section to allow them all to stand and the younger folks being advised or pulled up if they get carried away. Doing the Ipswich is not embarressing it is done by many eupropean clubs who dont all point to polish football as creating it. Celtic do it and call it the huddle, they have the green brigade who are bringing passion back.

Dont scawn these people, stand up sing and show passion for your team giving them a lead to follow.

Drury Most Likely Final Day Signing
at 11:56:23

Le fondra is 24 and has more League experience than Austin had with a good eye for goal. May struggle at first with the step up but under PJ I think he would develop and do the business for us. Priskin is a trier but not a proflific scorer and we are crying out for that. PJ has always had good goal scores at previous clubs and I think next season will see us with two strikers who get into double figures.

Keane Looking to Add Strikers to Squad
at 12:01:55

I still feel Scotland could get goals if Keane played him in the right role and we had wide players putting balls into the box. Unless you are world class strikers they rely on confidence and ours seem to have none, or when someone does look to be gaining Keane drops them next game to ensure they loose it quickly.

Counago and Lisbie can leave happily, Murray needs to go on loan and get a good run scoring goals as he wont prove himself in short bursts as a substitue here. Wickham has so much potential but again the Keane factor stops this at club level, he is so much more confident looking in an England shirt. If we got a good offer its the right move as long as we dont give the money to Keane to sign another Lee Martin. Royle got us good plasyers for buttons, Keanes pays millions and signs s**t

Keane Looking to Add Strikers to Squad
at 11:42:57

18 goals in 132 games for Plymouth says that Fallon maybe is not the prolific scorer we want. Keane could not see a good striker he fell over one, if you said Adam LeFondre to him he would give you a blank look and say who? Mention a league one striker who hasnt scored all season and he would have been scouting him for the last month.

Keane Looking to Add Strikers to Squad
at 11:33:59

There is nothing wrong with taking a lower league striker, clubs are tempted by smaller transfer fees, players expect smaller wages and they can really do the business. But they can take time to adapt to a higher league, such as Pittman at Bristol City, scored for fun at Bournemoth but took a while to find his feet in the championship.

I would love to see LeFondra sign and Rhodes come back but NOT under Roy Keane, dont score in the first few games and they are on the bench or only in the reserves. We need width and creativity in the middle to provide amunition for the strikers, at the moment we could have Torres but with no decent balls in the box he would struggle.

Keane Looking to Bounce Back at Norwich
at 11:44:00

Roy Keane was a publicity stunt gone wrong, if Evans wanted a big media name to raise our profile then we would have been better off getting Jordan (katie Price). The same huge ego, the same self importance and the same football management skills

Our chairman the top bussinessman, erm isnt making money important? Premiership or League One? does not take a genius to work out which one brings in more money and if Keane stays which one we will be in next season.

O\'Dea in Irish Squad

Darren has been a great signing and he has put in a 100% since joining us, more than othere loan signings have in the past. He is always commited and a toatal character in the dressing room. At Celtic he used to always jump in on interviews for Celtic Tv and have the other player being interviewed in fits of laughter. Youtube shows his scuba steve pranks, he is a massive character and will light up our dressing room.

I have doubted Roy in the past but full credit he has done very well and Im fully behind him and not ashamed to admit I was wrong.

Renewed Speculation On Keane\'s Future
at 10:55:03

Not that I think it will happen now, but Cotterill is a good bet as future boss. When he was Cheltenham boss I had a good mate who was Cheltenham mad and he told me that during a conversation Cotterill said Ipswich were a club he would love to manage in the future, bags of potential and he would love to prove himself further there.
Not sure if this is true and a lot has happened to both parties in the last 10 years, but adds to the rumour mill

Rodgers Keane\'s Target for Assistant Role
at 12:53:29

PimsNumber1 I agree, good assistants dont mean good managers and vice versa.
Kidd was number 2 to Sir Alex and was very highly thought of but didnt make that abilty as a manager.
Rodgers was a coach under the special one and that says it all, despite his management failings we are bring him in as number two where he has proved himself and was thought of so highly. Hopefully he will compliment Roy in his qualities and bring the thing that has been so sadly missing this season. Plus overall Roy gets on with him and that cant be said for a lot of people
