 | Forum Thread | Matusiwa fee at 22:10 13 Jul 2025
I like the sound of Azor Matusiwa, based predominantly on our history of Dutch players and a love of holding midfielders. Question though - if the undisclosed fee is (as reported) €9m, why have we got him for less than Rennes paid for him (reportedly) in January 2024? That figure is quoted as somewhere between €13m and €15m. I don’t understand why they’d accept less when he was just over one year into a four-year contract. Is it simply the player’s desire to play in England? No agenda with this question by the way, just confused. |
 | Forum Thread | A Town XI that never was… at 09:20 19 Nov 2024
Inspired by a podcast I’ve heard from Palace fans. An XI of players who somehow never played for Town, but it really feels like they did or very much could have had things gone differently. ** GK: Joe Lewis - From Bury, played for Posh, very promising at one time. The perfect fit for a 2012 move to PR. RB: Greg Halford - A talented, young Colchester player. How did he never move here?! CB: Paddy McCarthy - Had to check he didn’t play for us under Jewell. CB: Richard Wood - Ditto. Still not sure he didn’t play next to Danny Higginbotham and/or Neill Collins. LB: George Friend - Maybe we went for Stephen Ward instead… RM: Gareth McLeary - “Tabb, finds Skuse, he plays it to McLeary…” CM: Kenny Lunt - I loved the Crewe team he was in. Rivers, Ashton etc. We always seemed to beat them approx 4-3. I feel like around the 2000-2004 era we were very good at picking up the best players at less good clubs, but maybe we just took Jamma instead. CM: Graeme Dorrans - Obviously the Norwich connection comes into play but feels very us at one time or another, maybe it could have been us instead of Albion when he moved down to England. LM: Stephen Quinn - Possibly because of his brother but I really feel like this has happened. CF: Craig Mackail-Smith - The Posh thing again. Good player for them, very Jewell. CF: Billy Sharp - Scored a lot of goals in Championship while we were there. Had that nice moment at PR for Doncaster where we clapped him. Would have been a Chopra or Priskin type signing. Manager - Warnock. I think we’d have had a lot of fun. In forming this I did feel slightly scarred by Jewell and McCarthy, but there’s a touch of Burley/Royle/Magilton in there too. |
 | Forum Thread | Premier League Years 2000/01 at 23:50 24 May 2024
Partially to distract myself from the rumour mill, I took to watching Premier League Years 2000/01 this evening. Imagine my anger to note that - despite wins at Elland Road, Anfield, Goodison, despite a record performance for a promoted team and all of Marcus Stewart’s brilliance - the first time we’re featured is the 3-1 win at home to Bradford at beginning of March. March! Very disappointed in Kirstie Gallagher and co. I’ve managed to make myself angry that our achievements were overlooked 24 years ago. I may be projecting. |
 | Forum Thread | Town’s most forgettable XI at 19:03 9 Apr 2024
Inspired by seeing mention of Ben Pringle on an earlier thread - whose Town career almost entirely passed me by - I thought I’d pick an XI of players who I can basically not remember playing for us. A lot of loanees obviously - my only rule was they have to have actually played. So no Paddy Kenny, Jason Brown of Sean St Ledger. A lot of these were decent Div 1/Championship players elsewhere (and some even did OK for us), but they’re the kind of players I actually have to check played for us. I’ve gone for a workmanlike, snap-your-hand-off-for-a-point 4-5-1. Other players very much welcome. Who’s been cruelly overlooked? Any centre forward options? Macken still feels a bit obvious to me. (Also serves as a nice reminder of how good we are at present, regardless of how the next few weeks go!) *** Gerrard Richardson Collins Kisnorbo Elder Green Pringle Stevenson Gleeson Carayol Barnett SUBS Barber Bates Georgiou Diagouraga Feeney Dawkins Macken |
 | Forum Thread | Win percentage as a fan at 15:10 10 Oct 2023
Afternoon all. Long-time reader, first-time poster. I’m off work just at the minute so I have found and updated the (incredibly tragic) document I have that records every Town game I’ve ever been to. I’ve not lived locally for a long time so since my first game back in 1996, it’s been roughly 5/6 games a season. For stats fans: Ipswich – 67 (26 Portman Road, 41 away) Draw – 25 (10 Portman Road, 15 away) Loss – 42 (9 Portman Road, 33 away) Portman Road (45) – 26 W, 10 D, 9 L Away (89) – 41 W, 15 D, 33 L Ipswich goals – 210 Opposition goals – 141 Overall – 351 = 2.62 p/m Goal Difference = +69 Yes, I know, deeply sad. But like a cat dragging in something that it’s killed I wanted to share it with someone. One thing that struck me was the percentage of Town wins I’ve been lucky enough to see. 50%. Given I go away more often than PR this feels like a surprisingly good record. Maybe subconsciously I went less often in the really bad times - but I have so many bleak memories that this feels unlikely. Is anyone as similarly tragic as me? Do you have a doc that records that you were there when Shumulikoski scored? Have you too never seen a win in your six visits to Molineux? Something to muse on in the international break perhaps. |
