ahhh, I hope someone can help with this! Wasn't it someone like Paul Williams (?) from Swansea that won at Wembley? I remember the pictures in shoot or match magazine. Thought it was awesome

The Church Cafe Bar Reopens For Pre and Post-Match Drinks
at 11:18 3 Sep 2025

Indeed, God is no longer the custodian, passed it over to a blue. haha

The only font in the church is now a beer/cider font!

Hope to see some more ITFC fans down there. Lots going on outside of football days. You may even get to see the likes of Dub T, Hoppy, Bankster and a few other TWTD'ers in the flesh too.

He’s a really nice bloke & Ipswich born and bread. Doesn’t matter if he can’t get to all the away games to be able to discuss ITFC. I used to watch his band back in the 2000s 🎹

I noticed that he did a report for the guardian for the brum game - https://www.theguardian.com/football/2025/aug/08/birmingham-ipswich-championship and is reviewing other games now for them. He’s doing well, and is making a living from his passion of football and ITFC.

St Stephen's Church - is it still opening before games?
at 07:36 14 Aug 2025

I’ve taken over the lease from God (who left in 1978 after he couldn’t afford the upkeep) , and then the tourist information centre to bring beer and music to the masses!

St Stephen's Church - is it still opening before games?
at 07:34 14 Aug 2025

We’re back open on Fri/Sat match days before and after games, kicking off a n the 30th for Derby. Should be with a food offer as well, either onsite or via QR code to a few eateries that will deliver direct to your table. A few new beers on tap coming too, so it’s not just Adnams.

When we’re back open, it will be 12noon-10pm Thurs-Sat plus gigs and one off events.
https://www.instagram.com/thechurchipswich for updates :)

I know I’m biased but it’s an incredible venue for a pub and music venue. Just got to get a licence for beer and tables outside! Perfect boozer after work if you’re in the centre of town and don’t fancy the Arcade!

The realities of the Music Industry 2025
at 20:05 17 Jul 2025

We put Filed Music on in The Baths, Jan 2022 to about 200 people, they were such great people. Incredible band, super talented, radio play (6 music mostly) and critically acclaimed. They also work as guitar teachers and with young kids in the area getting them into music. It's tough out there for artists and grass roots venues while arenas and majority of major artists don't contribute anything back into the ecosystem which helped grow them. Imagine the premier league not investing in grass roots football....it doesn't happen in the music industry. I'm saddened but not surprised.

Brighten the Corners Festival next weekend in Ipswich
at 10:13 7 Jun 2025

….and the festival director is a top bloke too 😉
Thanks for the shout out.

W.H.Lung for me will be a standout.
Another Taste, disco from Rotterdam will be a highlight too.

Dubs, have you seen the talks on Sat? Simon from The Cocteau Twins/Bella Union, Gruff from the Super Furries and OneDa….should be a nice way to slip into the Saturday.

Van Houten sound pretty lush too…and pencil

For non ticket buyers, there’s a free stage in the centre of town, loads of good music on there from local and regional artists. From grime to acoustic, indie, pop etc…. Which you can wash down with lashings of Adnams from their truck and grub from the food vendors.

✌️✌️

Family friendly Pre Game Drinks @ St Stephens on Saturday
at 17:27 18 Dec 2024

I know most on here have a favourite pre-game haunt, however, if you're looking for a pre-match hangout this Saturday we're opening St Stephen’s Church opposite Wagamamamamama from 10am to 4pm, offering a cosy family-friendly café and bar. Perfect for pre-game beer/coffee somewhere to hide/relax if you're doing some last-minute. https://www.brightenthecorners.co.uk/whats-on

We hope to open more in 2025 for match days and hopefully a full cafe at some point.

For post-game activity, local indie-pop band Reno & Rome headline with doors open at 7.30pm! bit.ly/4fgbSrm

We're also open daytime on Friday from 10am-9pm including me trying to crossfade some records I've not listened to for years between 6:30-9pm. Expect anything from The Stone Roses through to Television & 60's New Orleans Funk plus whatever nonsense I can dig out.

Be great to see some Town fans around.

Edit - you can bring take out food in during the daytime too 👍

Cheers - JB

Best player you've played with / against?
at 19:12 3 Oct 2024

During the Easter holidays (I think) in 1998, my dad thought it would be a great idea to take me and 2 mates (who were slight lunatics)….plus my brother who was about to start his a level exams away for 5 days to Butlins in Bognor Regis. It was absolute carnage for him trying to control 4 16-18yr olds. The highlight of the week was the 5 aside tournament. We were tearing up the pitch mon-wed but by the time Thursday came around and the tournament started proper we were an absolute mess. We somehow got to the semis where we met a team who had someone fully dressed in a Crystal Palace kit with 17 & Morrison on their back, and even 17 on his socks. Clinton, aged about 17/18 and his mates ripped us to shreds winning by at least 8 clear goals. We hung our heads in shame and a couple of years later realised who we had actually played against. - nice to remember that holiday as sadly one of my buddies died October 23 - he was a great player, if not a bit of a loon. Oh and needless to say my brother got D D E for his A levels so the break from revision really worked for him 😂
