Town Interview Shearer
at 13:28:28

Will they ever learn?! Keane had no experience, Magilton had no experience. Jewell did and still couldn't sort the club out! We need far more of a proven and stable manager, not just a big name or else we may as well just take Fabian Wilnis on account of the fact he's a hero, regardless of his ability.

I don't quite see what Edwards said to cause you all to get so upset... Not sure why Darren Ferguson thinks he'd be offered the job, too.

Burley Interested in Old Job
at 15:48:19

I still wonder whether Royle may have had more success had he had the money the likes of Jewell, Keane and Magilton were given to throw about. Or whether Magilton would have got us up had he not been given too much money to waste on players who didn't care about Ipswich at all like Norris or if Keane had never sold Rhodes... Wow. We need someone proven and experienced to sort this club out. Curbs is my favourite, some of the other names thrown about make me a bit more nervous.

JET's Time Will Come
at 12:16:47

I know someone who was paying with JET in the youth team at Arsenal who said he was one of the best young players. He was trying to prove how difficult it is to break into the big sides as a young player, but I find it interesting that he can't find his form here.

To be fair to him, he's never really had a consistent spell in any team. He's in and out, along with his form. I disagree with people who say he can't shoot. He customarily hits the bar from 30 yards every time I see him, he's got a cracking shot. And I actually think his slow style is difficult to defend, because he has an excellent long range pass, lots of skill and a quick change of pace. The slowness is part of that, I don't think its lazy I think its just not the sort of style people expect to see. I really want him to turn good, I think he has loads of potential and he's a million miles better than Murphy.

Town Topic: Are Town Fans Overreacting to Bad Start?
at 12:07:24

I'm fed up of Chopra. He looks lazy most the times I see him play and he's showing no signs of upholding his promise of 30 goals. Taylor and Scotland look far more up for it and sharp. As for JET, I feel he isn't intentionally starting a fight, I think if I was reading half the stuff on here I'd be pretty fed up. Quite a lot of it is constructive but some people literally just shout '[name your manager] out!' at the slightest sign...

By sacking Jewell and half the squad, which is what we did with Keane, Magilton and Royle, I'm not sure what good it'll do. Someone else wrote this somewhere but I really feel this poor start to the season and Jewell is a symptom to the problem. Not the cause. The football on the whole over the past 10 years has been pretty average at best, minus a couple of seasons.

Jewell Frustrated By Failure to Take Chances
at 00:54:37

Was saying on the way out tonight, what is it that we're doing so wrong? For the past six or seven seasons the football has been mediocre at best and downright terrible at worst. Since the last season we really looked like a strong team (imo the season Wigan went up and we lost to West Ham in the playoffs, meaning we sold Miller, Bent, Kuqi and Davis to the Prem) we've seen 4 different managers, probably a hundred different players, several formations, a new invisible chairman, a heap of cash and absolutely no progress. The football has been consistently poor and even if Jim Magilton had some bright patches in his time in charge, everyone was baying for his blood as much as Royle's before him and Keane's after.

Tonight we played no worse than Wolves, even if we didn't dominate. Other that a terrible own goal they only scored from a speculative effort and tested Loach with a 20 yard efforts. We created far more clear cut chances but we were just terrible in front of goal. Martin and Murphy's lack of finish and final ball hugely let us down and Chopra was incredibly lazy for a player who claims to have 25 to 30 goals in him. Not everyone played badly tonight, but certain individuals massively did. But this isn't just tonight, or this season or even under Jewell.

We've been this poor for a long time and it barely gets better. I'm not saying sack Jewell, he is part of the problem. But he isn't THE problem. To say he is would be naive and would ignore the dire teams that turned out before he arrived. I personally want to see most of these players given time, I think some show promise and we don't really have any has-beens and hangers on like we did last year. We have a lot of young and inexperienced players, such as Smith, who will make mistakes. However, it's a results sport and Jewell has had nearly two years. I just think the problems seems to me to sit deeper than him, and if we don't completely root it out it doesn't matter whether he goes or not and who comes in, we'll still be staring league one or at least very poor championship football in the face.

Jewell and Staff Hold Blackpool Post-Mortem
at 11:25:13

I wonder how many people have seen Smith play for New Zealand, or captain them. He's a young player and he needs confidence. He looked good towards the end of last year considering he was next to donkey Delaney, but if we don't let our young players make mistakes they will never develop into good players. Same goes for Hyam, Carson, Murray and even JET. I'm far happier seeing these guys make mistakes than I was seeing Bullard, Sonko, Bowyer et al doing the same last year.

Kev, wait and see how we respond to the heavy defeat first. We've had three tough opening games so lets see if we can pick ourselves up. Personally if you'd put these three openers midway through the season and told me we'd pick up 4 points and could easily have beaten Blackburn I'd have been more than happy!

Jewell: Town in Talks With Clubs
at 11:18:15

One of my friends met and chatted to Paul Jewell during the game at Braintree (where we live). He said interestingly that nobody wants to come to Ipswich, it isn't London and it isn't Manchester, so once the people arrive, they like the club, but many aren't willing to shift their families somewhere where there's not a lot happening. To be fair the same could be said for Norwich, they didn't buy loads of players to gain success, they coached a successful team right the way through. Ironically they look worse for the signings they are not trying to bring in now that it seems an attractive option to play for them...

In any case, we shouldn't need more players. We have some exciting young players, we need to let them make mistakes in order to grow! If anything the only player I feel let down by so far is Chopra, he promises goals and we need to see the evidence. Otherwise, we have a good side, just develop it!

I'd like to point out we haven't exactly seen the players reactions to Jewell, or asked them, for that matter. We're just going by our views rather than theirs. I'm sure they're able to speak for themselves if they're unhappy. They might love him though, as difficult as that may be to comprehend...

Careful, awayfan, you might get told off for making a joke.

Newboy, some people live an hours drive away, that also costs money. And time. To see the under18s. That's probably a bit OTT to expect.

In any case, your comments suggest that if anyone's cage is rattled, it's yours. I don't really care if PJ makes it or not. I want Ipswich to do well, and I currently don't think PJ deserves an instant sacking and that this coming season could be where we see the fruits of his labours and finally see some real decent football that I think we saw glimpses of last year. I don't have any cryptic insiders information, but that's my humble opinion. Could you let me have it, please?

newboy I managed not to get to a single win home and away last season and I still think I saw better football than we had under Keane when I was able to go every week. It's not far off, we actually pass the ball rather than hoof it, we have players able to score, a team able to snatch points off of the big teams and a bit of flair and unpredictability at last in the likes of Cresswell, JET, Martin and Drury.

As you all criticise his policy with the youth he's turfing out all of the 'has beens' and starting the squad anew. He may just be making lots of comments on the youth because actually now they may have a chance to play. He clearly is a fan of Lawrence and I take these comments and White's as a roundabout way of telling them how close they are, and us.

After all, football is a harsh business, if you are a footballer you need to learn to be criticised and have the correct attitude, if they make it they will suffer worse. I remember people moaning about Jewell's 'harsh' treatment of Martin and Smith earlier this year, yet the two of them came back far better players than they were in the infamous Peterborough drubbing.

I don't mind reading Jewell's comments. I don't always agree for them, although for the record I think a better reserve league would be better than an under21 league and sort of agree with him. I wonder if he actually means it won't help him develop younger players into being good enough for his squad, because he wants to put them in. Not that anyone would think to try and notice that... I get far more bored of the boring rubbish churned out on this forum, if anything.
