Let’s All Take a Deep Breath
at 12:52:12

They are out there Meadowlark (one recently complained that Chaplin 'rarely tries to win the ball' back when out of possession!!!!!!!) but agreed on yr other two points especially the one about intellect.

Leicester City 1-1 Ipswich Town - Match Report

Terrific second half. Yet again, KM shows that this squad can respond in different ways to any sort of challenge. Sarmineto and Travis both look like quality arrivals and Jackson continues to deliver. Being without Hirst and Morsy would weaken any team but we are coping with it so well.

Agree with the general view that it was a decent performance but that we didn't make the most of the possession domination - again. We shouldn't have been desperately searching for a last gasp equaliser. Still, loads to be up about and we remain in a v good position. Top performacen right across midfield tonight.

Gutless, brainless and hopeless. Played off the park by L2 strugglers. Well done to Barrow - they totally deserved it. Our future gets more grim by the day.

Atay: An Unbelievable Game of Football
at 23:04:50

Loved what he said about an identity. That was a great performance all round. Great that PC and GR were in there celebrating too - clearly that sort of performance is what they want right through the club and it gives PC yet another example to show the first team wasters how it's done.

U18s Reach Youth Cup Semi-Finals After Rip-Roaring Victory Over 10-Man Blades
at 22:55:35

Far and away the best game I've seen this season. Reminds you of why we watch footie - exciting, tense and passionate. Well done to all the lads - and to Sheff Utd too because it was a real two way tussle. The whole thing just underlines show dreadful the first team is - it's like we've forgotten what a proper performance looks like so it's good to be reminded by what will hopefully be our (near) future.

AFC Wimbledon 3-0 Ipswich Town - Match Report
at 20:42:53

Abject, gutless, woeful. A group of players literally yelling at the mgr WE DON'T WANT TO BE HERE; WE DON'T CARE. Credit to the opposition though - like other 'small' clubs inc Crewe and MK Dons - AFC showed us what can be done with organisation, commitment and a bit of bravery. Our lot don't know the meaning of the words.

Here We Go
at 09:17:38

The blog was intended to be a balanced view. As well as expressing the hope of a good outcome it also included a number of examples of foreign ownership that went awry. Facefacts, Elephantintheroom and RegecyBlue all make fair points (I remember reading the Turnstileblues piece at the time and it's very damning for sure) and time will tell. Certainly no one is in any doubt that the commercial terms of a pension fund investment will require a substantial return otherwise the investors will walk so the clock is ticking on a mammoth task especially given the total shambles from where it is starting. Tractorboybig seems certain that anyone seeing the potential for a good deal here is being naive; rather more of us I imagine will question how it's possible to be so certain of anything at this stage. That's what the piece is saying.

Incredibly lucky and undeserved. Shouldn't mask just how bad we were. Everyone was talking about how we had to beat the teams at the top but this showed that we struggle against the teams at the bottom. Whatever rubbish PL says tonight , we should all see it for what it is.

Avoiding Sunderland's Fate - Lessons From Sunderland Till I Die
at 13:17:58

Agreed that it was an excellent programme - one of the best footie docs that I've ever seen. It kept you gripped even though you knew the conclusion.

The parallels are clear and so the differences which have been well raised in previous comments.

The one thing that the two situations have indisputably in common imo is that the squads were too weak to survive. Sunderland had a new manager bounce in terms of results; we had one in terms optimism but not in points. Sunderland had one or two headline days (a stunning 4-0 win at Derby) and we had our 'mini-reviva'l in 4 points- from- 6 but then in both cases normal service was resumed with defeat after defeat many of which were self inflicted. Both clubs had real 6 pointer games that they lost (for me, Saturday's defeat to Millwall extinguished any hope of us getting out of this.)

So far this season, Sunderland's story is a happy one in terms of a) league position, b) the form of some of the kids who were 'prospects' last season and who are delivering this time and c) what seems like near universal support for the new owner. At the moment, such an outcome for us would be bliss.

Relegation – A Chance to Go Forwards
at 11:22:16

Agreed that there may be an upside to relegation in terms of clearing deadwood and giving the young players a chance. Clearly this current squad is out of its depth.

Not at all agreed though that much of the responsibility for this season's calamity can be laid at the door of an intolerant crowd. Quite the opposite actually. No team has been as far adrift at the foot of the Championship at this stage of the season in the last 14 years and yet we are still getting 17k home crowds and taking substantial noisy numbers away. The atmosphere - despite everything - is still upbeat. It's a more positive place than it was under MM - when some of the abuse aimed at him was in direct proportion to that issued from him.

When relegation is confirmed, fans can't be realistically accused of impatience or intolerance given what's happened over the last 10 years and its culmination in this final catastrophe.

McCarthy Pleased With Performance Despite Defeat
at 12:36:40

Having been there yesterday and since the watched the highlights on telly too I have to say that much of what came through on the phones last night and some comments on here have confused me. Seems to me that the difference between the teams was a) in a game of v few chances they took one and we didn't, and b) they niggled, dived, whinged and time wasted; we didn't. There wasn't much more in it despite their £ spend v ours. Accusations that we lacked aggression are bizarre (when was a MM tem ever seriously guilty of that?) We just didn't deal with their approach as well as we could have. I do agree though that Knudsen must make way for Parr and that we're likely not going to make the play offs until we start to actually trouble the top teams. Personally, I'd rather be positive about it and say that we have the opportunity to start in just 8 days time @ The Amex.

Charlton 0-3 Town - Match Report

Great to see a lot of people acknowledging Gerken's performance today. Long overdue. He's been a convenient scapegoat for the lazy. It's right to give credit to a very impressive looking forward line but we should spread it around and definitely include the keeper.

Not sure this is the most respectful sign off to MM/TC but good luck to the lad as he's always been straight up - http://www.afcb.co.uk/news/article/tyrone-mings-afc-bournemouth-eddie-howe-ipswi I guess we can't really argue that we are less easy on the eye than Bournemouth either.

What Do We Want To Be, Ipswich Or AFCB? - Notes for Bournemouth
at 16:47:45

I admire their side in general but their fans' view of us as dirty and hoofball only is very lazy. We're by no means perfect but there's a lot more to us than that and hopefully we can show it today. They're not perfect either; their fans should have a look at their own lot's way of winning pens - e.g. one outrageous dive against Boro.

Norwich City 2-0 Town - Match Report
at 16:20:07

Not pathetic. Not gutless. That's emotion talking and nothing else. We have spirit and we have organisation but we don't have creativity and flexibility. We need all 4 to be serious contenders. The table now looks pretty realistic to me. It's bloody horrible to lose to that lot but let's be realistic. I thought Tabb, Chaplow and Sears all played well today but we weren't good enough as a team. Let's keep focused on the rest of the season an see what we can get.

Brighton 3-2 Town - Match Report
at 10:01:07

Odd game. At half time I thought we were in for a real mauling having been murdered in the first half. By the end I was disappointed - Murph missed one in the last 5 mins that (by his standards) was a sitter and if it had gone in then a point would have been the least that we could have expected. A couple of my mates are Brighton fans and they said that Hughton has got them humming and that last night bore no relation to most of what they have seen this season; that's not a 20th position team. Agreed that the defence were uncharacteristically hesitant in the first half but let's take something from the fact that MM turned it around and we had a good go in the 2nd half - we can all remember games when we'd not have come back from a first half hammering like that. Onwards.

Burley Interested in Old Job
at 19:22:24

Shearer? Could any of the players stay awake through the sort of dull plodding monotone that we all suffer on MOTD? He was inspirational once though - after we'd been mauled at Man U Shearer said on telly that there are no easy games in the Prem except Ipswich at home; GB used this in his team talk when we later went to Blackburn (and beat them) in a cup game. Not exactly a sign of respect for the club but it backfired nicely.
