Lovely read John -you are looking good for promotion this year! My first trip to the Cottage was on Boxing Day 1963. We lost 10-1 to a Fulham Team that include Bobby Robson. The guy standing next to me had a hip flask and kept taking the odd swig. As the tenth goal flew in he turned to me and asked whether that was the 9th or 10th goal. I told him it was the 10th. "You won't believe this he said - I saw West Ham v Blacburn this morning and West Ham won 8-2. I've seen 21 goals in two top division games within the space of 5 hours!" The saga does not end there. Two days later the return matches took place and both Blackburn and Town won. In Ipswich's case it was 4-2. I didn't actually see the Town's winning goals in the North Stand goal - the fog came down and I was in Curchmans and could only see as far as the half way line. The referee could see both goal mouths from the halfway line soo deemed it OK to carry on! Happy days! |

Happy to give him a try - Alf came to us straight from the Spurs first team and that worked quite well. |

Going back a bit: how about Laurie Sivell? Born in Lowestoft and joined as an apprentice in 1969. 141 league appearances. Probably the shortest goalkeeper in the old first division. |

As ever, a sterling piece of work Harry! All I hope is that we do better than my one and only visit to Bramall Lane back in November 1971. After a reasonable start we fell apart as United rattled in seven goals for a 7 - 0 home win! Walked to the station in the pouring rain and got the train to London. It broke down and by the time a replacement locomotive turned up we were running about a couple of hours late. Made it to Liverpool Street. The last scheduled passenger train had long since gone but the Station Master managed to fit us (there was about nine of us - massive away following!) into the newspaper train. This was the highlight of the day (well, two days actually) as with no other traffic on the line the train did Ipswich in 1 hour 12 minutes which was unheard of at that time. |

One of the 12 founder members of the Football League in 1888 - not sure that we have played them before? At least Jackson and Donacien will know the way! |

Certainly a sensible approach. I have sometimes thought that in the past we have pushed younger players (Kevin Beattie?) too fast too soon. Andre has had a major injury and is still growing. |

Hell - just how low can we go? At a time when there is a national debate about reigning in on the number of betting outfits linking to football clubs our lot happily sign up with a cheap and cheerful outfit who (as Blandford notes) will contribute peanuts in return for putting their tatty logo on our shirt. I would rather see the name of a charity or decent local business feature rather than this. The Cobbolds must be turning in their graves. |

dukey44 - please don't belittle us shareholders of Ipswich Town plc. Back in February 2004 it was us (supporters from all walks of life) who dug deep into our pockets to keep this Club from going under. In my case it was £500. The shares have no value but we are still proud of what we did. Permit us our one meeting a year! |
 | News Comment | No More Signings Before Window Closes at 22:14:49
This was always going to be a tricky one. Had Murphy been sold a couple of weeks ago we might have had the time to get the right man in. We go with what we've got and it's not all bad news - the squad IS stronger -it's just a question of getting the right mix out on the pitch. As for the transfer window process itself - this is a ridiculous way to run a sport. In my view the window should close one week before the start of the season. |

Excellent! - just down the road for me (St Albans). Just don't add Stevenage to the list!! |

This was all so easily avoidable. As Scooterblue noted, the engineering works are planned months in advance so all that is needed is for that information to be fed into the FA match scheduling computer so that it knows to avoid this type of fixture on that date. Some organisations don't seem to have quite made it into the 21st century! |

This should never have been changed. As the Trust rightly points out, the rail engineering work scheduled for the Sunday will cause major problems for fans who will now have to resort to buses and cars. I am not looking forward to the latter stages of my 90 mile drive from Hertfordshire and the subsequent scramble for a car parking space. |

I still hope we can hold on to him - but if we get the right offer (£5M+ together with sell-on clause, extra payments for international appearances etc) then it would be silly to refuse. My money is on Southampton - assuming Shaw goes to Man Utd or Chelsea for somewhere in excess of £25M |
 | Blog Comment | Ticketing at 10:19:38
Just caught up with this thread and have to say as a St albans based supporter that the web based ticket ordering system is so much better than the old telephone system. Many a time in the past I have had to hang on for ages to get through to the ticket office. For the Watford match (as others have noted) the whole process was completed in under a minute. |
