Announced this morning over on socials, Ipswich Town are delighted to announce that Achilleus Security are the new sponsors of the Sir Bobby Robson Stand aka North Stand at Portman Road.
A quick search on HMRC (yes I am that sad) reveals they're currently being liquidated and have changed their name a few times over the past few years.
Make of that what you will. They're the firm who supply security staff at the ground. |

of the modern football ilk
1) Soton should have worn their traditional colours, no clash between our kit and their home kit. Yes they were 'away' but that's not the point.
2) The PA announcer saying "YOUR IPSWICH TOWN" it's weird and a bit cringe and doesn't work, let's stop doing that please.
3) Soton fans chanting "yellows, yellows, yellows" I noted they did this when they played away at Bournemouth and I don;t think I've ever seen or heard another team do this when they're away and playing in a change kit. I can't imagine us chanting "maroons, maroons, maroons' or "pinks, pinks, pinks"
anyway, minor gripes. Plenty of more important things going on in the world. [Post edited 2 Feb 21:27]

So on the eve of our return to the Premier League something caught my eye during the worldwide media coverage of the pre-macth press conference.
I didn't think I'd be this p*ss*d off but the presence of a small logo I wasn't familiar with has pretty much crushed a lot of my excitement, especially after the unveiling of 2 excellent signings.
What logo am I talking about?
The 8XBet logo.
It's also on the footer of the not quite up-to-date official club website as one of our club partners alongside Greene Kings, Carabao et al.
Never heard of 8XBet? You're not alone...their a white label of Isle of Man facilitator TGP Europe who also licence DEBET, 12BET, NET88, FUN88, SBOTOP & STAKE.COM
When Man City partnered with 8XBet in 2022, they claimed the firm were founded in 2018 but no one, no one, could pinpoint any details about who owned them, where they are based and when exactly they set up.
The company that "own" them weren't actually set up until 2021 and their domain wasn't registered until 2020.
Sadly, Our club is now guilty of promoting illegal gambling in the Far East but you'd be forgiven for be being none the wiser as these deals (Town haven't announced it, formally) and firms are shrouded in secrecy.

So on Friday me and the current Mrs Bono went out out in LDN town to take in a show.
Got the train/bus replacement/train back to Suffolk yesterday. Don't usually wear colours when not at football but I wore one of my old-skool scarves on the train.
Train pulls into Colchester en-route for Nodge and a Budgie gets on, complete with tracksuit, hat, scarf, Norwich club shop carrier bag full of Carling. I thought "Here we go" and our eyes meet, he gives me a nod and walks up the aisle. 2 minutes later, he comes back and sits across the aisle from us.
We had a very candid chat about how the 2 clubs are doing right now.
They are bricking it about next week. He sits in the "snake pit" which I gave him a bi of stick about lol as it sounds naff.
He said they have no idea what team Wagner puts out on match days, it's all so unpredictable as is the system they'll play.
They now accept that they're years behind us and are now where we were under McCarthy and Evans type era - no money, everything on the cheap and free signing/journeyman players with no building for the future.
Doesn't think they'll go down but equally although they hate all the noise around ITFC right now they kinda want themselves to go the same way.

Thread | Did we celebrate too soon?

Today felt wierdly anticlimactical, didn't it?
We 100% deserve all the plaudits, and as fans, we had every right to celebrate, have award dinners & party! It felt cathartic after a generation of rot!
But maybe, just maybe, we should have waited a week?
I dunno.
Week in, week out, we've watched the most spectacular football in memory, we've broken records, we've exorcised demons, we've reconnected with the community, we've sold out the ground. New heroes have been born, memories have been made & these boys have made us proud again
Not moaning btw 😜
Looking forward to next year although it's not just the players and staff who need end of season holidays lol |
