Budgies have sacked their manager. Shame. Never mind.
at 12:35 22 Apr 2025

The boy Knapper is to blame for much of this. A totally wrong appointment from Day One and has zero 'real' football experience. The Americans now need to contact Danny Rohl and pay whatever it takes for him to take the job.

That deal could make or break next season for us. The lad Wright oozes quality (as he should do coming off the Guardiola production line). It's midfield where games are decided and with him there we could do ok.

I'm so frustrated with McKenna
at 21:59 5 Apr 2025

Well I can assure you things could be a lot worse for you! You could have appointed a schoolboy from Arsenal as 'Sporting Director' and a completely unknown manager with just 16 months experience in actually managing a football club!" To cap it all, neither have played football at professional level (or eve at all in the case of one of them!).
Whilst I didn't like the sour faced attitude of KM to us in the two matches last year, I thought his interview with Sky today post match was honest, refreshing and put the whole season and your progress over the last three years into perspective. I think you will be a leading force in The Championship next season unfortunately!

Hi Frimley,
Yes that may be better for him. That role would give him more scope for the pace and power he has. At Everton he had no settled position in their defence which clearly didn't help. That said if you can't defend properly for Dyche then you will be shipped out and that's what happened. Will be very intrigued to see how he plays for you. Good squad player no doubt.

£16m bid rejected for Ben Doak…
at 20:55 3 Jan 2025

Agreed. He destroyed us in the home game earlier this season. Pace and trickery to burn. Boro will be desperate to keep him as their promotion hopes hinge very much on the impact he can make. I would be very surprised if the Scousers flogged him off.

Borja Sainz charged by the FA

Agreed - we have picked up a mountain of yellow cards recently which is unusual for us. He will almost certainly get a six match ban and rightly so. Football takes a very dim view of that foul habit.

Originally perceived to be a right back but once Farke brought him in it was at centre half and that's where he stayed. Had /has pace to burn and when he 'goes on a run' I'm sure it would remind older fans of one K Beattie! He scored a screamer at home to Reading I think it was.
Problem with Private Godfrey is no-one has been able to teach him how to defend as a centre half (and that includes Ancelotti, Dyche and his current club plus us originally!) . For a player of his stature he is not dominant in the air. However, the main issue with him is he 'ball watches' and loses concentration and focus on what he should be doing which is marking his man. Result being that 'his man' peels away from him unmarked and scores! If you want a reliable defender then he's not best suited for you. However, if you can put up with that and focus on his pace and power then it would be a damn good signing (unfortunately!). Much talk of Spurs leading the chase before Christmas but that seems to have fizzled out.

Midtable we certainly are but if we're 'tinpot irrelevants' then perhaps one of you could educate your Chief Executive who is most definitely 'obsessed' by us!

Sainz single handedly keeping Norwich mid-table.

Don't think u need to worry about the boy Sainz joining you. Why would he? To do so might very well meaning playing in The Championship again next season so what's the point.
Even if u stay up (which you may well do incidentally), he will join a club way above your paygrade. Athletico Madrid are the favourites apparently.

Sad, sad news about Whymark. (n/t)
at 21:13 31 Oct 2024

You would know better than me but I remember that famous Paul Mariner headed goal in the 1-0 win v Liverpool. Now that was a textbook header. The famous 'hanging in the air' and powering in the header. Fantastic. Unfortunately, the art and skill of 'heading' is being frowned on. Some of this due to the medical links to dementia but some just simply due to the modern day preference for 'playing football on the ground'.
I still love seeing the great headed goals, something magical about them.
Will definitely tune in to Talk Sport Breakfast tomorrow as the old hero will be wallowing in nostalgia and tributes as so he should.

Indeed and tributes also on that very peculiar message board 'Wrath of The Barclay' with a number of Yellows talking about the family connection and Trevor's very local roots.

at 20:51 31 Oct 2024

Very good summary. For some reason I always recall that 7-0 thrashing of WBA in 1976 on the old Match of the Week programme the following day! Wonder how many of you can immediately recite the scorers of goals 3,4 and 5? I still remember them (sadly I know being a fervent Yellow) but they were screamers. Answers on the proverbial 'back of a fag packet' please.
A Darren Whymark owns a garage business on the industrial estate here in Long Stratton and I know him well. Quick look at his family Facebook page confirms Trevor was a relative. Might even have been Darren's father, I don't know. Will go and see him tomorrow to find out. Darren is one of the nicest and most genuine people you could ever meet. A trademark that sees to run in the family then.

Town / Norwich at Wembley - How would it work?
at 16:27 19 Feb 2024

You're right about relying on Sargent (with Rowe being injured) and he is just about hanging onto fitness as the old ankle injury is not fully healed. Despite our recent run of results (at home particularly) I think you have more to worry about from Coventry. They are a very good team and anyone who finishes above them will get play offs. I think Albion will get 5th and Coventry 6th.

There was no criticism or booing when Watford equalised with an absolute missile of a strike. Neither at the end. The boing was due to fans unhappy with the two substitutions. Nought to do with this 'entitlement' myth either. Sorry to disappoint you but as you weren't there 'you have no idea' (to coin our owners tirade at the local media at the AGM).

Barry John RIP
at 19:02 4 Feb 2024

Indeed. YR never played rugby and, to be honest, finds the rules of the game bizarre (polite description) never mind the odd shape of the ball! However, he does know that B John is one of the REAL legends not only of rugby but sport as a whole. Amazing to watch the somewhat 'grainy' clips of TV recordings on the news this evening and seeing a selection of rather 'lean' looking gentlemen playing the game as opposed to the huge 'beefcakes' of the modern era. One try in particular was shown in which The King raced past lumbering opponents with graceful dummies and side steps in either direction. They will be reeling in The Valleys tonight as The King of Welsh Rugby is mourned. We salute him as indeed the other real legends who have passed in recent weeks / months.
