Absolutely wonderful result and so well deserved. Well done to MM and TC. How good to be discussing whether we're nearer to the play offs or the drop zone! Can't wait for Tuesday. COYB

McCarthy Delighted With Hard-Fought Win
at 23:34:43

Another great win. Another Saturday night without all the usual moaners and detractors writing their vitriol on here. Do you really hate us losing?? I can't explain, condone or accept all you negative people slipping into the background when we win. So you're not fans after all? Well, I never really thought you were in the first place. You're the losers you poor sad people. COYB

Funny how we get different 'posters' when we win. Does it really hurt them so much for us to win? COYB

McCarthy: Point Gained
at 23:03:15

<<<Ipswichbusiness added 20:29 - Nov 24

Bigalwasmy hero; I think that Beattie was the better footballer, but he was injured so often. Allan Hunter had an excellent "attendance record" by comparison. Also, I suspect that Beattie was made to look good by having Hunter beside him.>>>
You are joking I hope. Beattie was one of the best players - if not the best -Town has ever had. I don't think you could ever have seen Beattie play for England [without Big Al to make him look good as you suggest] - otherwise you would realise just how far out your comment is.
As for today's game, well, same old same old. But I really feel so much more confident of survival with MM than at any time since Jim Magilton.
I can't get to the AGM this next week unfortunately due to prior commitments, but I'd love to have gone just to listen to Simon Clegg. He must have 'something' going for him surely? I just haven't seen it yet.

October - a centre back? Surely someone must know who he is. I certainly don't. Or have I had another senior moment?

McCarthy Delighted With First Town Win
at 19:27:21

How lovely to feel happy on a Match Night!! The difference between MM, and PJ and RK, is that MM is a man manager. He has showed that he can motivate our players - some of whom had become, let's politely say, a little less interested in wearing 'the' shirt and more interested in getting their pay packets in the swansong of their careers. OK it's just a start - BUT when was I this happy on a Match Night? Getting old - I can't remember :-))

McCarthy Set to Be Named New Town Boss
at 23:22:16

So, if it's true, then it's a fait accompli. Bien fait. We fans owe it to the very essence of Ipswich Town to get behind MM and his team. I have been increasingly disappointed and upset by the negative, nasty, personal postings that have appeared on this forum over the last few months. We are now where we are. The Manager has been appointed. For goodness' sake - get behind the owner, management and most of all the players. This is now a matter of the very survival of our team. That is not a dramatic statement - it's a statement of fact. Get behind the team; pack Portman Road to the rafters; bring back the noise level for which we were once so celebrated; bring back Fortress Portman Road. We really have to fight for our survival - not just as a Championship team but an FA team. Come on - show what we Ipswich fans are capable of. Forget all the petty annoyances. Show the budgies up the road that we are on our way back to where we belong. GET BEHIND THE TEAM, BEHIND THE NEW MANAGEMENT. It's our club - it's our Ipswich. WE CAN DO IT!!!!! COYB

Interviews Taking Place

<<Look back at previous managers, the best ones came here unkown and became great. Our record of success with so called 'proven' or 'experienced' managers is not impressive. >>
Ah! but that was when we had the Cobbolds in charge. A crisis to Mr John was when the white wine ran out in the boardroom. We were a 'nice' club then - management and fans respected each other. During the off season the likes of Phillips, Crawford, Elsworthy et al used to go working on the Cobbolds' farms - even stone picking. If ever there has been a better exmple of a family breakdown I can't think of one. Such a shame that the beautiful game is so horribly ugly these days.

U18s Start Pre-Season With Draw

K & P are not a poor team by any means. To draw with them - bearing in mind the pschycological boost of playing 'us' - I think we did well to draw. Let's encourage these lads - hopefully they're our future.

Beattie Guilty of Benefit Fraud
at 23:10:57

There's only one thing sadder than this story and that's the reaction of some of the people writing on this forum. Yes, it has cost ‘us' £9,000 - but haven't any of the people pouring out this anti-Beattie vitriol ever done anything wrong? Are they all purer than pure? Never ‘borrowed' a pen or pencil or what have you from their office? Never made a telephone call on the office telephone? Never exceeded the speed limit? You may say that these ‘crimes' are small beer, but multiplied by all of us it adds up to a sizeable sum. I find it particularly sick that this holier than thou attitude is so prevalent on this forum. Kevin Beattie is human. Shock, Horror. He's still one of the best football players I've ever seen play — anywhere.

Jewell Delighted to Be On Right End of Last Gasp Winner
at 23:37:45

Did anyone else hear John Wark on Radio Suffolk saying that in his opinion Jaime Peters would make an excellent right back?? Could this be the answer to that obvious problem? It'd leave Carlos free to have space on the right as an attacking roaming player. What do others think? Anything John Wark thinks is well OK by me.

Henderson Town's Third Portsmouth Target
at 01:15:46

Do you remember how it felt when we went into administration? Clubs circling like vultures, knowing we had to sell? Let's offer Portsmouth a decent price for their players [and spare a thought for them too, by the way]. Do the decent thing Clegg, the Ipswich thing, and make them an offer they can't refuse. Bring on the Hammers - we're ready for them [if we get these players that is]. Mind you, having said that, don't we often perversely win against superior opposition?

Jewell Slams More Calamitous Defensive Errors
at 01:18:55

The first game I watched was Ipswich v Torquay in 1956 [I think, or 57] whilst we were in Div 3 South. We won 6-0. I thought every game would be like that, so I was a bit disappointed when I realised that that wouldn't be the result every game!! I've seen some wonderful games in some wonderful stadiums under brilliant managers and owners, but I've seen a few pretty dire ones too. I bought shares in the club when we had our administration problems and have been a supporter through thick and thin, as should be the case for all real football club supporters. But, here's the rub. I can't ever remember our club being in such an awful state as it is now. It's rotten from top to bottom, with a few notable exceptions. It isn't just the manager, or the CEO or the faceless owner, or just the players or just the coach. This malaise seems to have permeated every level. How Mr John must be spinning in his grave. Unfortunately we have to accept that league football today is not a sport. The days of Ted Phillips and the like going stone picking at the Cobbold's farm during the off season have long gone. The paternal family that nurtured Ipswich Town has long since disappeared and with it the pride and respect of playing for the manager, the owner, the fans has gone too. Unless we can recapture that wonderful warm family club atmosphere again then we will have to accept the likes of Mr Evans and Clegg. The Cobbold days have gone, and more's the pity for that. I hold myself really fortunate that I have lived through those days and realistically fear that they will never return. I hope I'm not alive to see us play the wonderful Needham Market at Bloomfields!! But that's the way we're going I fear. Keep the faith -COYB

Jewell Apologises for Worst Defeat in Management
at 14:54:10

I said at the end of last season that I was fed up with the personalised comments coming from some people to me and that I wouldn't post again.
Changed my mind. So to all you positive people - I think we as a team are playing absolutely magnificently, the passion and will to win is so wonderfully evident from every section of Ipswich Town FC. There now - will you criticise me now ??

Jewell: Draw Felt Like a Defeat
at 19:45:55

Of course it feels like a defeat. But taking the long view, 10 points out of 12 - Wow!! I can live with that. I'm pretty sure that's 10 more than we would have got under the previous management. Onwards and upwards.

Town Topic: The Greatest Town Goals
at 22:28:40

Beezer and Garv,
I saw Ted Phillips break the net more than a couple of times. When he took a penalty the crowd behind the relevant goal would duck!!
One of the most fascinating goals scored at PR was Stanley Matthews [in his swan song season with Stoke] scoring direct from a corner. I was standing in the 'corner' bit between the north and west stand [under the manual half time scoreboard - now Those Were The Days] and to see the swerve on that ball was totally unforgettable.
Best goal? Any one that gives us a win :-))
