John Wark retains the title he regained from his old mate Kevin Beattie a couple of years back.

The debate over which one ought to be top will almost certainly continue in pubs and on the TWTD Forum for many years to come. A while back Kieron Dyer said he felt that "Kevin Beattie is the best player that we've ever had in our long history but I think John Wark is our greatest ever player just because of the longevity of his career and his honours, both with the team and individually". That seems a fair summary of the situation.

Their team-mate Paul Mariner, who we sadly lost last summer, is back up to fourth having been fifth behind Marcus Stewart a year ago. A much-missed true club legend.

Arnold Muhren finishes ahead of Frans Thijssen in the battle of the Dutchmen but by only seven votes compared to 15 last year.

Matt Holland has been an impressive third for a number of years now, while Pablo Counago retains his sixth spot and Martijn Reuser replaces Mauricio Taricco in 10th.

The 1990s David Johnson beat the 1970s David Johnson by 15 votes to two.

Of those currently in the squad, Wes Burns picked up a very creditable 20 votes after his hugely impressive first season, while youngster Cameron Humphreys clearly made a very big impression on 14 fans during his brief involvement in 2021/22.

Stephen Gleeson's 10-game loan spell in 2017/18 evidently left a huge mark on one supporter, while inside forward Willie Callaghan's 22 matches between 1952 and 1955 are still clearly remembered with great fondness by another.
