TWTD Questionnaire 2022/23

Q11 Worst match of the season?

Even the most brilliant seasons have bad days. Frustration was the overwhelming emotion in the 1-0 defeat to Lincoln, who pulled off the low block trick that so many teams tried at Portman Road. Hopefully the Championship should see more competitive matches rather than opposition simply setting out to frustrate Town.

Oxford in the fog was stupid and potentially dangerous for the players involved. Everyone knew the game had become a farce and both managers wanted the game replayed, which would have happened by for referee Bobby Madden not knowing the competition rules. But, as we've all got used to in circumstances where officials make similarly big mistakes, he faced no action for his error.

Given the relative form of the two teams, had the game been restaged in more normal circumstances, a Town win would have been likely and those points would have won the League One title.

The draw at Charlton was ridiculous. Perhaps Town netting their fourth to make it 4-2 made it seem the game was won and led to a bit of complacency. Charlton hadn't been in the game up until their third goal, which gave them some momentum and whipped up the crowd, leading to the leveller.

The 0-0 draw at Bristol Rovers was another of those frustrating nights and started a few of us wondering whether it was going to be another season which promised so much without ultimately delivering. How wrong we were, eh?
