TWTD Questionnaire 2022/23

Q12 Town goal of the year?

The Derby team goal was as good as they come. Just 11 seconds from Christian Walton throwing it out to Conor Chaplin picking his spot and finishing confidently in the manner which became so familiar over the course of the season.

Arguably, Nathan Broadhead's brilliant free-kick against the Owls put Town's season back on track after the difficult spell in and around Christmas. Coming back from 2-0 down to draw that day was a very important result, even if the Bristol Rovers game a few days later saw further frustration.

George Hirst's goals at Bolton and Barnsley might well have won this category in other years, the deft volley of a difficult wet ball coming across from the right against the Trotters was superb, while the goal at Oakwell, coming so soon after Broadhead's opener, was as well timed as it was executed, the on-loan Leicester man battling for the ball, fighting off his man, bringing the ball forward and then lashing an unstoppable shot into the top corner sending the 5,000 behind the goal at the other end wild.

After spending all of the previous season being useless on corner kicks (we probably had as much chance of scoring from a corner as from the other team taking a goal kick), this season we scored our first goal from a corner and (probably) lead the league in that department. But we took it to a new level with the goal of the season by scoring off of our opponents corner kick!
