Ipswich were dominant in the first half, like they usually are when they play at home. But the team lacked the same kind of balls-out bravura that we saw when they played against Coventry. There were a number of unforced, confidence-sapping errors that allowed Oxford chances that they didn't deserve. The 2-1 scoreline at half time flattered Oxford but at the same time it shamed Ipswich because they were not pushing home their obvious dominance. As in the reverse fixture, Town were too slow moving out of defence.

The second half saw Oxford push higher up the pitch. Oxford had a couple of good chances including a nailed-on one-to-one with keeper but fortunately for Town they couldn’t capitalise on them. What puzzles me is that Town find it hard to play against a team that has a low block — so why do they also find it hard to play against a team that are 2-1 down and pushing forward? Credit to Ipswich as they did push for the important third goal but for some reason this team isn’t firing on all cylinders.

Another issue for me is how poor Town are at capitalising on corners. Town had 9 corners in this game but none of them led to significant chances.

Got the result but we need to improve if we are going to stay in the top two. Matusiwa our best player Nunez ran his heart out and always looked a threat. Biggest disappointment for me Egeli didn't look on the pace. Burns needs more games to get fit looked a yard slow. Cajuste looks incapable of player more than 45 minutes after starting very well.

Philogene top class again.Best performance I have seen from Akpom. Some lovely gliding runs from Cajuste and a great tackle and pass for the Philogene goal. Great to at last be in the top two. Happy New Year everyone.

Good performance.... much better than the scoreline would indicate.

What a difference a day makes? It was clear that the Coventry win wouldnt be maintained against a team that parked the bus. lankshear will become a good player in years to come and one to note for the future. Well worth the wait for the goals and those that could have been.Three points excellent - dont care how we got them - it pays to be effective not pretty. We decide on the play but keeping possession needs an efficient goal tally. We are only second in goals scored and top in goals prevented so cant be far away from the finished article?
