i'm regularly told i'm an imbecile etc, so all things considered i haven't done too bad to build a business up from scratch, admittedly i only drive people around, but what i've got is all mine, i'm not a wage slave to a boss.

Good for you chap.

Me i started work at 15 as a hod carrier,i got pretty good at it,and by 16 yrs old i was able to work out a system that i was able to look after 4 bricklayers rather than 2 and i was paid the same as a tradesman,i worked out that if i got at work 1 hr before and i stayed 1 hr after to keep ahead off the brickies,therefore i was cutting out a wage boom.(people did say i was like a Spanish donkey)..

I was able to purchase my first brand spanking new Toyota Hilux at the age of 18 for 10k cash boom! CASH MONEY ! LOOK AT ME ..

I bloody loved it,after 25 yrs of doing that i decided enough was enough and i started bricklaying until i got cancer,i then had 4 yrs of sh1t Chemo/Radio/operations and had to go back to work,so someone offered me a garden to love and look after,that was in Sept 2015,now in Jan 2017 i have 14 gardens and customers and more coming in as we speak !

Life eh ? You never know what is around the corner ba ..

Worked as an accountant (mostly) and a teacher. My most high flying job was as the CFO of a company that traded across 9 countries in West / East Africa. Was also the job that got me closest to getting killed too, so was quite relieved to move on from that one.

Worked for a few charities too, when my conscience got the better of me.

I am a Treatment Specialist Radiographer working in Radiotherapy. Currently spend most of my time treating patients, looking after the oncology treatment management systems and delivering lectures using a virtual treatment unit called VERT. ( http://www.vertual.eu/products/vert)

Worked for nearly 20 years in the NHS with only a short break to try my hand at lecturing which was both fun and soul destroying!

Did 2 weeks on Lowestoft trawler docks.

Then 16 years as a Civil Servant.

Now in 11th year doing what I did as a Civil Servant in the private sector for nearly 3 times the money.

I hate this work and as soon as the mortgage is cleared I'm jumping ship to concentrate on my 'hobby' job... 34% owner of a record label which has been running at a profit for last 3 years (not so for first 4 years!).

In my old life I worked for several building societies/banks providing IT support for various banking systems, but gave all that up in 2006 to run a B&B as my wife became ill and could no longer work or look after our son.

Whilst I was a 'wage slave' I couldn't comprehend why anyone would want to be self-employed with all the worries that go with it, now after 10 years running my own business, I couldn't even contemplate going back to work for someone else.
