i'm regularly told i'm an imbecile etc, so all things considered i haven't done too bad to build a business up from scratch, admittedly i only drive people around, but what i've got is all mine, i'm not a wage slave to a boss.

so over to you, the high and mighty of twtd, what is your line of work ??

Do it all the time putting porn instead of pawn broker.
My wife had to stope me putting "Pawn star" on some bank paper work the other day

Retired now, but back in the day I used to design insurance companies for governments. Mostly natural hazard, earthquake, wind and flood, but other stuff too, but that was the most interesting time.

I run a small plumbing and heating business.
We cover Suffolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk.
Been doing that since school.
Part time property developer.
Also have a motorcycle breakers, that keeps my father in law busy a few days a week, started as a bit of a hobby.

Minus the motor bike stuff you basically do what I'd really like to! Lol

Always fancied being a plumber and working for myself, but got a secure apprenticeship at a pretty big firm when I left school and the risk to leave and retrain was something I was too chicken sht to do...

We’ll be good again... one day

You can take out insurance against wind? Is that for newsreaders and people like that?

No, I'm in Gloucestershire.

And I still wince when giving customers the price for a job. But that's how long the work takes and you have to make a living. And I can do it in maybe half the time the customer could (experience, knowlege and having the right kit).

Fair play Benters

I'd hate to be in your shoes now Rommy I really would. You young people ,and I consider my youngest daughter who is 26 in that category, will need a massive lot of luck to secure the pension, job security and mortgage deals my generation had.

I ought to charge £150, but don't always make that much (price by the job).

So, have you any shrooms for sale?

No, but they used to grow in a little wood i frequented behind the college in Surrey. Had some interesting weekends back then!!!!.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

It's gone up a bit over the last few years. Depends largely on your trade and skill level (plus what your customers will pay).

Would love to be a gardener when I fancy winding down.

Have you thought about evening classes at college?
It's a great way to retrain.
I used to do a bit of part time work helping the evening students at Colchester intitute and it was fantastic to see people turn up and get stuck into something they really wanted to do.
No one can take an NVQ away from you.
If you can spare two evenings a week it could be a life changer.

I don't mind talking you through it if ever you want.
