Am I reading this correctly, that in the history of the championship only 2 teams have got more than our 28 points after the first 11 games ( one of them being Leicester this season)

That is a crazy stat

Oh man, wish I hadn’t read that. The chances of us flying under the radar diminish by the day.

Having done some very quick checking, of the teams listed that didn't get promoted, all except Cardiff in 2006/07 finished in the playoffs.

So going by that we have a 93.33% chance of finishing in the top 6 and 80% chance of going up.

Hopefully we don't have that "blip" that them up the road keep talking about, cos those percentages look pretty good to me!

According to Talk Sport yesterday, Leicester walk the league and we comfortably take 2nd.

I'm mentally prepped for a dramatic slide.

Also, have we now become 'Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town'?

Given ourselves a big chance.

All teams have a wonky period.. we can have one and still be in with a good shout at a top 2 place let alone top 6.

Frankly, I'd be ok being known as Kieran McKenna's XI at this stage.

The bloke has been touched by God, and we should just be grateful he's deemed us worthy.

The original tweet is such a dumb argument. We got 99 points. We did walk League One last season as did Plymouth and Sheffield Wednesday. Does the exceptional achievement of others diminish our own?

Surely if you’re applying this logic, and that ‘ No club in @SkyBetChamp history has picked up 27 or more points from their first 11 games and failed to win promotion that season’ then we would have a 100% chance of promotion.

FWIW I can’t read much into this. 1 game at a time innit, see where we’re at in 20 games time before I dare to dream.

Think Jan 1st is when we actually have an idea on where we might finish.

I know we had a crazy end of season last season... but our dec fixtures are horrid on paper

If we are anywhere near the top 2 on Jan 1st.. I think we will go up automatically.

If we've had a drop by Jan 1st and are competing top 6
. I think we will finish top 6 and win play offs

All about that Dec period for me.

10 Games In... by Vegtablue 4 Oct 2023 17:17
Wise counsel catch. Got to keep our wits about us.

Since the Championship was born in 2004/05, teams in 1st and 2nd after 10 games have finished:
Top Two: 17
Playoffs: 11
Top Half: 7
Bottom Half: 3

However! 23 points or above is less common. It's happened 11 times, 3 of which were in one season (ouch). Finishing positions were as follows:
Top 2: 8
Playoffs: 2
Top Half 0 👀
Bottom Half: 1 (Cardiff 06/07, let's quickly move on)

25 points or above since 1997/98 (when form tables begin on this nifty website I'm using):
Top 2: 5
Playoffs: 0
Top Half: 1
Bottom Half: 0

Phwoar!

Sky stole my homework from last week the b*ggers! I began in 1997/98, the furthest back form tables went on the website I found, and of course we were on 25 points before Preston. The only side that failed to go up automatically with our total (or above) after 10 matches was Watford in 2000/01.

It was another freak season: Fulham were top on 28 points and Watford were 2nd on 25 points. Watford lost their 11th game, so they stayed on 25 points. Therefore, no team in the 2nd Division in the last 26 years has amassed 28 points or more after 11 matches and failed to go up automatically. This doesn't tell Watford's full story, however, as they finished game 15 with 35 points and +16 GD; they were still motoring along! It is from there that they fell off a cliff, amassing only 34 points in their last 31 games and finishing 9th.

The worst collapse in the Championship years was Cardiff in 2006/07, who after 12 games were on 29 points with +16 GD. They managed 35 points in the 34 matches that followed and finished 13th.
