Recently I couldn’t gain access to a credit card account through banking app. It was as a result of an update by Barclays and not corrected until next update. Sloppy checking before implementation.
Only a small number of accounts were affected nationwide. | |

It's a bit harsh to call it sloppy implementation of an update if it's only affecting a small number of users. Yes, it's massively inconvenient to anyone who is affected but there comes a point when whoever is managing software updates has to make a go-live decision, it's not possible to check all possible outcomes for all users, it would take the developers too long to check all possiblities.
Have any of these outages actually been confirmed as being caused by "software updates"? there are so many things that can go wrong in the chain of an IT network infrastructure, it could be anything from hardware failure to lost config settings after a power outage at a data centre. Many large corporate networks have large parts that are outsourced to cloud services nowadays too, it could've been something out of the companies control altogether.
Basically, IT infrastructures are getting ever more complex and "turning it off and back on again" is ever decreasingly becoming the go to fix to any IT issue! |  | | |
