Beware bookies' software scams 21:07 - Apr 5 with 1195 viewsRyorry

Heard a report on BBCR4 'You and Yours' (of all places!) that bookies have been placing into customers' computers without warning, software which tracks every bet you make (it's called iesnare, made by iovation.com). This means you could be prevented from opening a new account with a different card by some bookies, as they simply track your IP address.

As per usual, it's only winning punters who are targeted.

The very articulate guest speaker has his own website where you can look it all up - apart from anything else, the breaking of data protection & setting up of unannounced software on customers' devices is pretty scandalous, never mind the betting side of things.

https://justiceforpunters.org/

You'll have to look on that website for the pages referring to this specific scam, as it won't let me link to them directly.

Worth doing a search on your devices to see if it's already there methinks.

So if you are a winning punter, they will be able to refuse you opening an account, but they will continue to welcome losing ones.

Guess that won't be a problem for many Twtdrs then.

Is that because they prey on the vulnerable and the easily led?

Even without this software, I understand each one monitors customers and if they win money over time they remove promotions, close their accounts or limit them to betting a few pence. So if you have bookie accounts that remain open and unrestricted you are probably losing money with them.
