Prem proposing to close their transfer window early 09:33 - Aug 15 with 1561 views | Superfrans | Discussion and vote due to take place next month. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40931420 Given that they will be going it alone on this, changing their window, while others will remain as they are, this sounds like chaos in waiting. It seems that, was this in place now, their window would have closed last Friday, a week after our season started. It would also not affect our window or the windows in Europe, which would continue until the end of August. So, continental clubs could still seek to buy Prem players, but not the other way round. What it would mean for us, is also unclear. Could we continue to loan Prem players after their window has closed? I just don't see how this would work in practise.

Prem proposing to close their transfer window early on 10:27 - Aug 15 with 1503 views | Basuco | It is a stupid idea, what if the EFL refuse to change it? If it goes through then rest of the World can sign Prem players but they would not be able to replace them.
Prem proposing to close their transfer window early on 10:29 - Aug 15 with 1498 views | ITFC_Forever | Football League usually starts a week earlier, so FL clubs would still have uncertainty after the season starts. The transfer window is ridiculous and should be abolished ASAP. For all the good intentions it was brought in for, there are too many negative consequences. Won't happen though, as this will require the authorities to backtrack on a concept they introduced.

Prem proposing to close their transfer window early on 10:33 - Aug 15 with 1494 views | itfcjoe | I think the EFL would have to follow suit. That will work in practice fine, England is a destination market - how many players are sold from England to the continent when the clubs don't want them to go. In reality the only European clubs that can attract PL players are Bayern, Barca, Real, PSG. It should be fairly easy to manage. The transfer window shutting and squads still trying to be worked out when we are over 10% of the way through the season is wrong as it makes August a bit of a non-event for certain clubs. For me the window should shut before the season starts, or there shouldn't be a window like the good old days - transfer business can ruin starts of season for teams - all the following players missed opening fixtures (I think) through injury - Coutinho, van Dijk, Sanchez, Rose, Barkley, Drinkwater - because they are still being linked elsewhere. A line needs to be drawn and the start of the season makes the most sense

Yes. Would also prevent a team from being robbed of a key player some time after the setup is fixed and running, which can ruin a large chunk of the rest of their season (e.g. us, last year).

In what will be cited as the key example in this window (Coutinho) there is a farily simple solution of Liverpool telling Barca that their window shuts and no outgoings will be sanctioned so an unofficial deadline being put in place

Altho that could backfire if Liverpool themselves subsequently wanted to sell or bring someone in. Or could provoke a rebellion by the player, if they desired the move. If it's official, there's no argument.

Hmm..theoretically possible, but in modern high end football, most players seem to get what they want if a bigger club comes calling.

The FA lost all their power when the premier league started, 25 years ago. Closing the window early is a good idea but don't see it being agreed by 14 clubs. What if Monaco decided they wanted to sell MBappe now and the top European clubs were in for him and the top English clubs were unable to sign anyone because they have a different transfer window?
