Garvan and Stead Could Still Play for Town
Garvan and Stead Could Still Play for Town
Wednesday, 26th Aug 2009 12:55

Town boss Roy Keane says it is wrong to suggest that Owen Garvan and Jon Stead will not play for the Blues again on the basis that they weren’t in the squad at Peterborough last night. Earlier in the week, Keane said that he had told some members of his squad that they would be unlikely to play for him again.

An evidently angry Keane said: “Colin Healy and Damien Delaney were not in my squad for the Hawthorns but they were back last night.

“You cannot write off the Ipswich careers of Owen and Jon on the back of them not being at Peterborough.”

The Town manager also dismissed a claim that Alan Quinn was amongst those being cast aside: “I read that Alan Quinn was also on his way out. But he was in my team last night and he will back up that he has not been told I am thinking about letting him go.”

Meanwhile, Olympiakos are lining up a loan move for ex-Town loanee Giovani Dos Santos, according to reports in Greece.

Last week Keane said that the chances of Dos Santos returning to the Blues on loan from Spurs were “Very, very, very slim” despite numerous links in recent weeks.

Dos Santos has previously been mentioned in connection with Atletico Madrid, Espanyol, Galatasaray, Besiktas, Manchester City and Inter Milan this summer.

I hope we keep Stead. Garvan should of gone last season if not before

Should we read into this that the potential signings aren't progressing as well as he'd' hoped then?

The reporting and over analysis of every breath RK takes is wearisome and making Town look very confused.
Oh, how I long for the days when the behind the scenes shenanigans were just that. If it were still the case then perhaps the manager and players could concentrate on the job in hand. They wouldn't need to spend their energies refuting rumours and re-explaining every odd comment from three days earlier that's been blown out of all context.
Bah!

Getting a bit frustrated with all the turns and u turns regarding Keanes comments. Sometimes it is nice for the Club to keep in touch with the fans but Mr. Keane engage your brain before you speak as you are making yourself look silly.

I agree, far to much 'stuff' coming from the club that is either rubbish or retracted a day later or even just blanked out. I for one would just like to know what is happening. I also agree that maybe this is an attemp to soften the blow when sod all new players arrive in the next couple of weeks.

FRUSTRATION OR WHAT!

Give Garvan a game alongside Quinn and Colback who work hard rather than the very poor Trotter and perhaps he will be able to pass and play and link with Counago rather than just by pass the midfield as we have been doing for most of the season with long balls because nobody in midfield wants the ball.
The reason Healy and Delaney were not in the WBA squad is because they have been so bad in the games they have played .
Do not believe RK should publicly critise individuals ,the team are defending poorly throughout, creating few chances and not taking the ones we do have ,hitting the panic button after every game and blaming certain players for each game is just poor management .
But RK is our manager and hopefully he will sort it out sooner than later and we can have a good season ,with the fans support !!!!!

Aa a squad i think Garvan and Stead are big assets to us. I dont get to see as many games as many forum contributions but i cant understand why alot of people have turned on Garvan, is he that bad. He might not have progressed like some people say but i cant believe he has no part in an Ipswich future.

To be honest I'm not sure Keane is keeping his story straight.

What seems to be happening to me is that straight after a defeat when he's angry he says stuff like 'some of them will never play for me again' later its 'beggers can't be choosers' meaning they will play for him again then its 'you can't right players off' after he told us to... but by now he's calmed down.

I still think he is a cracking manager who will get it right here, but he is such a hot heat.

'An evidently angry Keane said...' Well RK, what's the point making your original pseudo-announcement if you're going to get narked when people speculate who the unnamed players are that you were referring to?
That said, it's very good news if the door hasn't yet been closed on Garvan and Stead, especially since we're not looking like getting anyone better in.

It is impossible to make sense out of the developments relating to players not playing for club again.

Yet another example of clueless local gutter press, willing to make up ANYTHING to sell their arse wipe of a newspaper. "wake up" Town fans to DDD's ongoing plot to unsettle the Club.

Why didn't Evans appoint a manager in the mould of Roy Hodgson, the late Sir Bobby or Alan Curbishly. Managers with a brain and a plan rather than a thick, vindictive, loudmouth, no brain bullyboy.

We need balance.Garvan is the best play maker we have. You need any engine alongside him so,he can do what he's good at.

Richard Dunns looking for a new club!

Agree Keane should think before he speaks. People will obviously speculate if he suggests certain players have no future with Town. I would be sad to see Stead and Garvan go. Perhaps Garvan has not developed into the type of player his early potential promised but he still can be a match winner on his day. Likewise Stead does get the odd goal. Perhaps they might not be automatically on our first 11 but we need to strengthen our squad and getting rid of Stead and Garvan will not help achieve that objective.

All appears not well, perhaps all the squad should have gone in one go and a fresh start.gio will never come to this club again and those who keep waffling on about him live in a dream world.lets all get real we are stuck with what we got till christmas and the only one easily got rid of is keene

I think the best thing the club can do is tell Keane to keep away from the press and let Clegg do the talking. Keane says things in the heat of the moment that he either doesn't mean or regrets later.
I agree about Garvan, he hasn't developed as we would have hoped but is that his fault or can the coaches shoulder some of the blame? It wasn't long ago that Everton were reportedly intersted in him.
I think we need at least 3 good midfiled players which sounds ridiculous when last year we could almost field awhole team of midfielders. Walters is really a striker playing out right and Martin is OKish going forward but neither do their defensive bit when we lose the ball. Hence the two left in the middle are getting overrun.
If we can get the Celtic lad and the Sunderland trio, it would be exciting times but that is a big IF!
