Town Back in Bottom Three
Town Back in Bottom Three
Wednesday, 17th Feb 2010 22:42

Town dropped back into the Championship’s bottom three after Reading’s 3-1 victory at Crystal Palace on Wednesday evening. The Blues now sit in 22nd place behind Palace who also have 33 points but whose goal difference is nine better.

A draw with Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Saturday would be enough to take the Blues above Palace depending on their result, while a victory could see Town leap ahead of the Owls in 20th, QPR in 19th, Reading in 18th and Scunthorpe in 17th if their games go the Blues' way. Town travel to Scunthorpe next Tuesday.

Elsewhere, Jon Stead made his debut for new loan club Coventry as a 56th minute sub as the Sky Blues lost 4-1 at Newcastle.

Curbishly or Burley would be free. No compensation. That makes paying the mad man's last year off look cheap. Surely a multi billionaire 7 the olympian have got that worked out??? A decent solution to this fiasco is sitting in a jobcentre (porto benus) as we speak.

Im not saying i think Keanes done a great job am I! Like you say, 6 wins in 30 is pretty shocking, not arguing with that. Just dont see the point in people who come on here and slate everything about the club, i always thought real fans were meant to support the team through good times and the bad. Constantly slagging Keane of on here isnt going to do anything is it?

When Keane was appointed a mate of mine (not a 'Town fan) said, "That will split your fans in two - because half of the country hate Man United."

Anyone think that there is any truth in that?

I laughed at the time...

Nunny: no it's not going to do anything (though enough fasn unrest can make a change if it gets reported) but at the same time, this is just a place to put your opinion.

Yours is that we should stick with Keane. Fair enough. Mine is that we need to seriously think about change - 1 or 2 more games max.

That's my opinion. My opinion is also that Keane has done a dismal job.

This place is designed specifically for us to put our opinions so why do you have a problem with people doing so?

And people aren't slating the club, they're slating the manager (with good cause) and to save their beloved club they want him out. Some are also slagging Clegg and Evans for sticking with Keane. I don't agree on that one, but I can see their point.

my remark re Russian Roulette and changing manager is valid if like me you believe RK is not the man to turn it around,if you are of the opinion RK will turn it around then ok, its wrong ,its a case of which which camp you are in ,which gambol you want to take.I say change ,we changed from J M, look at us now, BUT Canaries, changed, The U,s changed, Posh have changed, right now i reckon they are happier camps than us,Posh are obviously still a long way from safety, but they are making progress, which is more than we are doing .If we get relegated,we will lose half the squad,if we scrape by we probably still will ,and everyone has witnessed how difficult its been to attract players even before we got into this mess . So we enter another season scraping the barrel, hardly likely to be a flying start to get into Prem,we need to be up in the running at start, and move on from that, LIKE WE HAVE BEEN IN PAST !.Keano is failing ,THE 2 YEAR PLAN IS TAKING A NOSE DIVE .sorry to upset people again ,but thats how i see it .

Nunny, people aren't coming on here to slate everything about the Club. Alot of the Club is great, it's the manager who is getting most of the stick for the dismal displays the fans have to put up with all year!
Better for fans to place their feelings on here than air them at the ground before a game!
It's very hard to put a positive twist to such a poor season when so much was hoped for before and the real danger of relegation.
Agree with naa that with the next two away games, the results from these are crutical, as two loses or a couple of draws is simply not good enough for us. Imagine the feeling of going to the following home game against Bristol with us still firmly stuck in the bottom 3!

Fair enough naa, have to say i was probably calling for Magiltons head on here this time last year. We all know were in the s**t, just dont see how being so negative is gonna help. Just my opinion before i get slated!

Let's be honest, we're not were anyone expected us to be at the beginning of the season, but I still believe we can get out of this. Yes, there is little to no consistant form, but the table is so tightly packed anyone with a couple of wins on the bounce can soon be mid-table. With the season we've had the only way to look at it is: it doesn't matter where we finish because (prize-money for places aside) all the teams from 7th-21st are still in the Championship next season, which has to be the goal for the next 16 games, and with only 6 points or so separating about 8 sides, there is plenty of chances to finish outside the relegation zone.
I'm not for or against RK particularly, and to be frank, once you send the players out on the pitch and you're winning or at least getting a point at the 90minute mark, there's only so many times you can say "keep concentrating", we would be at least 8 points better off, and comfortably mid-table if we didn't concede in the last few minutes. I think it's a bit harsh to be blaming him for everything this season, as simple mistakes which are out of his control, have left us where we are. But, if he's still here next season, which I assume he will be if we're still in the Championship, I think there is a good chance those mistakes will be ironed out and we can progress up the table. Here's to hoping!

Funny isn't it that all the Keane supporters are very quiet at the moment, yet, a win on Saturday will see them all come out of their hiding places. When will some fans wake up and see it doesn't boil down to one game but the whole season?

EXACTLY! It doesn't boil down to just one game - we had an awful start, then from October to now (4 1/2 months) we have lost only 4 (count them... FOUR!) league games. Admittedly too many have been drawn, hence why we have struggled to break away from the bottom of the table. But Christ man, we ARE hard to beat, just struggling to make much impact at the other end (hopefully Murphy will address that now).

So I could turn the tables on your comment and argue that likewise all the vitriolic Keane-haters were very quiet for several weeks while we were on that long unbeaten run - now we have lost a couple of games as form has dipped again, and out you all come like clockwork!

Fine, you all hate Keane - but don't knock us for believing in the boys and that things may just turn around for us. And calling us 'Keane supporters' is not necessarily very accurate - we are all IPSWICH TOWN fans (well most of us are), and we all want the best for the team and the club. At the moment Keane is our manager, and until such time he loses the confidence of HIS manager, he will get my support, as will the blue shirts on the pitch.

I agree with Nunny, i'm not sure how changing the manager with only 16 games to go is going to help anything, we dont want to turn into a QPR, if a new manager comes in and gets us relegated would you want him gone too, stick with what we have, we haven't met expectations obviously but we are hardly down and out are we

I think it is a foregone conclusion that Roy will be iced by the end of the year. No chance is ME going to let him have another pre season. He is a dead man walking, save for getting 30+ points from remaining 16 which I hope he does & would look like progress.

Based on evidence this season, the only choice ME has got is whether to do him now or do him at the end. It's actually the same as with Jim last year. Once it is clear whether we are safe or down. That's when the old 'Roy, Marcus would like a quick word in his office' chat will happen.

I see it very simply - Keane is too high a risk to keep on to the end of the season. He is all talk and the team has gone backwards - no question. I see there being less risk in bringing in a real man motivator for the last 16 game dogfight. Top level playing medals count for nothing now. Its 'backs to the wall' managerial experience we need. Sorry Roy, you have failed. You have never experienced this league position at this stage of the season as a player of the manager. We need someone who has. Enough is enough. We must not be relegated.

Don't get me wrong, I am not happy about our situation.

However the league this year is so tight. Technically we could still make the playoffs if we go on a 6 game winning streak, and games go our way. Improbable, but possible.

When Keane was appointed, I felt he needed until Christmas, and personally despite the atrocious decisions he made on Tuesday, generally we have been playing pretty well. Better than under Magilton with his sideways sideways back method. It was like watching the worlds most boring game of rugby. Sure we've had a bad game, there is no denying that, but we've also been VERY unlucky at times. At least there is a bit of excitement these days.

Granted, I would rather it be at the top end of the table, but if this makes our end of season a bit more exiting so be it. We just need to get our heads down and work harder. We will get out of this mess.

As much as I would love to see Town running away with the league, or comfortably sitting in the play-offs, being in a relegation dog-fight is just as exciting to watch as well - at least it makes "dull" fixtures against mediocre teams like Scunthorpe, Plymouth and Sheffield Wednesday that bit more interesting - Keano has us going in the right direction with the signings he has brought in on the whole, we just need to keep patient - when it all clicks we are near unstoppable as we have shown in glimpses this season. A full year next year with:
GK B. Murphy / R. Wright
RB D. Wright
CB G. McAuley
CB D. Delaney
LB Buy one
RM J. Walters / C. Edwards
CM G. Leadbitter / D. Norris
CM O. Garvan
LM L. Civelli
CF D. Murphy
CF Buy one

Buy a LB and a forward (plus Daryl Murphy) and 2010/11 could be our year to really push up the league and establish ourselves as one of the better teams in the division again.

Just to put this into context, if any of us had a record with a new company and performed as badly as RK then we wouldn't have lasted past the 3 month probabtion.

I have not been advocating the removal of keane, and have been a vervent supporter of keeping with the manager but im afraid things are diar now, he has had money and time and we are still in the bottom three, time to bring in someone else to arrest the slide and consolidate our position.

I was always concerned when he said "i will get this club in the premier league within two years" as that showed a lack of knowledge for the other teams and respect. He was a world class player but unfortunaltey a very average manager.

It's time for Keane to go. I remember watching Ipswich take on Bradford @ Bradford in the dark days of 'Drunken Duncan must go' banners and quite rightly he went as we wasn't good enough. Keane is not good enough, it was a gamble in the first place, we should have gone for an experience Championship manager like Warnock or Holloway. Not everyone's favourites but a damn sight more experience than Keane, who admittedly took Sunderland up but on the back of big money backing, which despite the hype, we haven't really got.

We need to get back to the long-term managers that made our club a success. The people that will bring the youth players through and back them, cos they are the players that will fight for the club and grow with the club over the years. Instead we let them go out on loan or ditch them, without giving a proper run (ie most of the season) in the team.

All this hype around Marcus Evans money and Roy Keane has set us back years. Lets get back to the Ipswich ways of long-term youth policy and backing players week in week out.

I wanted Roy to succeed but he isn't cutting the mustard...

Totally agree Hype. Players are sadly mercenaries so at least they would be galvanised into performing for a new bloke. they clearly don't give a monkeys about impressing keane. they know they'll get dropped or chopped whatever they do under him.

dobie quit with the hard to beat rubbish , we have lost 3 of the last 6 games (count them 3) one to the worst side in the league one to a team from a lower division and one to a team that had only won once in 15 games what is hard to beat about that ?

NorwichBlue: I seriously thought you were being sarcastic at the start of your post, then was horrified to realise that you meant it!

Admittedly, your team on paper looks quite good. But then it does this year too and we still play awful football and are in the bottom three, so why would it be any different next year?

And those who say we're more interesting that Magilton's sideways approach. Really? All I see is aimless punts time and time again to people who can't header (Stead, Pablo, Healy).

Great football!
