Town Back in Bottom Three
Town Back in Bottom Three
Wednesday, 17th Feb 2010 22:42

Town dropped back into the Championship’s bottom three after Reading’s 3-1 victory at Crystal Palace on Wednesday evening. The Blues now sit in 22nd place behind Palace who also have 33 points but whose goal difference is nine better.

A draw with Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Saturday would be enough to take the Blues above Palace depending on their result, while a victory could see Town leap ahead of the Owls in 20th, QPR in 19th, Reading in 18th and Scunthorpe in 17th if their games go the Blues' way. Town travel to Scunthorpe next Tuesday.

Elsewhere, Jon Stead made his debut for new loan club Coventry as a 56th minute sub as the Sky Blues lost 4-1 at Newcastle.

RK is a great manager with the right sort of team - we aint it. A square peg in a round hole is a painful arrangement to both parties & keanes uncompromising approach of leaving out key players because of travelling distances, refusing to sign any number of players cos they didnt have that "magical look in their eye" etc, it has cost us. We have all seen clubs swap managers and do far better; Irvine leaves a faultering preston for shef wed and they hardly drop a point, young fergie does ok picking up where he left off and so on. In Roy Keanes tenure at ipswich we see the chemistry just hasnt worked. The thrashing at peterborough was the final nail in the crucifixion of "ITFC as we know it". A ressurrection can only come in the form of an inspirational new manager with new ideas .... if we are thinking it, then surely marcus evans must be looking at his rapidly sinking 16 million pound investment and thinking the same.

I hope Stead goes onto score lots of goals for Coventry, he had the best scorong record for us but clearly not rated by the manager who remember sold him from Sunderland.
It,s for RK to surround himself with all his old mates (insidently whats happened to Edwards) but as someone poited out we do not own all of them.
Their is two much emphasise placed on John Walters, all opposing teams have sussed us out everything comes down the right stop the supply and we are in deep s@@t.
It takes more than huffing and puffing hard work players who give you 110% effort you do ned guile and a little skill in a team.
I wonder how long the fans will remain loyal to manager, the next two away games are critical we usuaaly get one good result follwed by a bad performance so i reckon the reaction will be a win sat lose tues.

Dry your eyes and put your hankies away people! There are still 16 games to play, 48 points to play for! I don't for a minute believe we will end up with 81 points come May 2nd, but don't give up yet. Yes we are in a mess at the moment after what seemed like a new (false?) dawn, but there is still time to get free of the 'Zone' and get up that table a bit.

I personally don't think we will go down (although it will be seriously squeaky bum time from now on in), but at the end of the day, if the worst comes to the worst and we DO go down, there may only be 12 or 15,000 of us at Portman Road next season, but I will be one of them. I will continue to support the boys whatever happens, and whoever is in charge.

Then watch the miraculous appearance of 10,000+ extra glory-hunting 'fans' if/when we get promoted to the Premiership .....

COYB!!

Does Evans have a 'football man' he consults for backup advice/second opinion?

I seem to recall this some time back.

I think he should be consulting his people in the know!

dobbie73 - like you, I'm determined to stay positive.

We do have a squad of players who are capable of lifting us out of the mire - and that should give us hope, at least.

Hard as it may be for some, we need to get behind the team and show them our support at every game now.

They won't win every game (if only!) and they will probably make some pretty dim mistakes between now and the end of the season. But if you want to give our team every chance of staying up, then get behind them.

COYB!

Nobrain - Just because people criticise the team (fully justified), its does not mean they are not behind them on match day.

There is no problem whatsoever with people voicing their opinion that being in the relegation zone in late feb is not acceptable.

Seriously worried now, Shef Weds is the biggest game of the season by a mile now, cant afford to lose in my opinion. I cant see Keane here next year either, I think he'll walk, or get pushed, whatever league were playing in. I like Keane, but this season has been by far the worst i can remember since ive been going to games. Also, why does everyone worship Burley? Fair play he took us up, but he also payed out ridiculous wages to crap players, Finidi, Serini etc. No coincidence we went into administraton a few years after that.

AT LAST THE PEOPLE WHO CALLED US WHINGERS ALL YEAR ARE WORKING IT OUT. Well done lemmings, you got there in the end. I would have thought 1 win BY CHRISTMAS MIGHT HAVE GIVEN YOU A CLUE, but we've waited 3 more months for nothing. . . & don't start the I'm a bettter fan than you because 'I want to go down & play Orient & I'd be there singing & COYB' rubbish. We're all fans. Just some worked out that Keane was clueless earlier & based on actual results.

No progress whatsoever since Jim went. (actually we are much worse off)

Over £8m spent on players - a fortune at this level & some haven't even played!

Laughing stock to media, other fans.

Our run in is not great. Newcastle, Shef Utd , Forrest. Could be down & dusted by April.

Don't be proud. End it now Marcus. It's like watching a train crash.

last thing we want is to go into the last couple of games of the season needing a win, im hopeful we will have secured survival for next season by then but i am growing concerned.

Lets get behind the boys COYB!!!!

It wasny Burleys fault Nunny. Georges ability thrust us into the heady heights of the Prem and europe at the first attempt. H e was then forced to increase the depth of the squad for rotation purposes and didnt get much support from a club stuck in headlights. The existing players who got us their became selfish and greedy, the rot set in then freefall. Its not easy adjusting from champ to Prem but he so nearly did. I would love to see him have another go.

Next 2 games critical now. Less than 4 points would not be good.

Doing the maths, to be absolutely safe we would need 55 points (Leicester went down with 53 points 2 years ago). That would require 7 wins from the 16 games remaining. we've achieved 6 wins from 30 games so far. That's a proper relegation battle. Roy should be on a Sky TV sofa somewhere chatting away on anything when the cameras are rolling - not our dugout. We've got football matches to win.

Nunny ...a manager only lists players he would like at the club ,he does not sort out deals ,wages ,or fees that is down to the board .But agree Finidi and Sereni were very poor signings by George but what about Holland ,Johnson,Mogga and Stewart more than make up for it .
And to all the supporters saying a new manager will get us relegated McDermott has 4 wins and a draw for Reading in the league with the same side as the old manager

Don't forget that Sheepshanks was right there with Burley - he was the Chairman & wanted all the publicity. He opened the cheque book for George (not his own I hasten to add) & got him to go signing because he thought he was a pioneering Chairman who should be on the top table. Sheepshanks santioned the mercenaries & signed off the long contracts when we effectively only had a 1 year contraxct with the premier league!

At least Burley played nice football, cared about the club, nurtured players & has a great record at this level. Him or Curbs. The only choices & the team would instantly pick up.

Nunn_the_Wiser added 10:04 - Feb 18
Yeah your possibly right guys, lets blame Sheepshanks. But i think Burleys in the past now, not sure about him returning to be honest.

This really is the reality check and after the performance on Tuesday you can see why we are where we are. This is a mirror image of the Norwich City scenario last season - a Manager who is clearly not up to the job (sorry I have changed with that opinion) a host of loan players who will not be here next season whichever division we are in and therefore do not have the passion of the Leadbitters of the world. Keane has had 9 months to find us a left back and still has not succeeded hence it is square pegs in round hols with every team he selects. This Burley talk is absolutely ridiculous he is the bloke who was trusted by Sheepshanks to waste millions and ultimately put our Club in a mess where we have been ever since. Curbishly would be my man but I fear he will rescue QPR. My only consolation is that we could get to Wembley twice next year in the JP trophy and the play offs but we certainly won't have the players that Norwich and Leeds have enjoyed. Sorry to be doom and gloom but just cannot see 19 points from 16 games being achieved unless something is radically changed
