Clegg: I'm Still Backing Keane
Clegg: I'm Still Backing Keane
Monday, 29th Mar 2010 09:00

Chief executive Simon Clegg has insisted that manager Roy Keane still has his backing despite continuing speculation that the Blues boss is set to lose his job. Several reports this morning claim Keane will be dismissed as soon as this week.

Clegg said: “I'm still fully committed to Roy Keane. It has been a disappointing season, but Roy is still building his team.

“I understand there have been some speculation stories, but Roy is just starting out to get us where we want to be.”

Meanwhile, speculation regarding Keane and the Celtic job vacated by Tony Mowbray last week also continues in this morning’s papers.

Roy was an unproven manager save for 5 months at the start with Sunderland with someone elses team. Ever since then his erratic behaviour, quotes & purchases have continued. Stablity is great but that is what we should have gone for after Jim - another unproven manager. To continue to back someone who doesn't know his best 11 is pointless. Put a steady grown up with a good track record in charge & then build on that. Let''s end this ridiculous episode in our history.

jbb "Play Off Form!!" you're having a laugh, in particular the last 2 games have been dire, we have not improved one bit and if this is acceptable to all you fans then you have very low standards. I just hope Clegg's backing is a kiss of death, I haven't enjoyed a single game this season when I've been able to think we're 'getting there'
Rubbish absolute Rubbish all season long, KEANE OUT NOW!!!

Hey - I think it has beyond our poor performance this season - As has been mentioned we are a business - part of ME Business
He will sit down with RK at season end and review his performance , like any other business in a rational , logical way - ie Purchases , deals , Position in league , performances , Coaching staff , Profile and Image he projects
After that ME will decide if RK is the right man for the job
See ya Roy

Devontractorboy, play off form isnt a matter of opinion it is a matter of fact. Leaving out the disastrous start, from the end of october to date 40 points garnered from 26 games equates to play off form, we would be ahead of Leicester on goal difference, on 61 pts for the season.
Agreed the football hasnt been the best, but teams are built in stages, get a solid base, and build from there.

Town fans should trust themselves & our board more. Making the decision to change RK after 1 full season could be a lesson learned & not a knee jerk reaction. It doesn't mean we become QPR overnight who had Dowie, hired Jim, Paul Hart, Sousa etc etc. If we got the right bloke in, he would get the backing & we would stick behind him. No more gambles, just a sensible approach. We've spent bundles this year & it's been a fiasco. I don't see a more consistent team or even decent footie to watch.

I am disappointed with the statement, as I think the time has come to replace the manager. I want a new man to look at the squad in competitive action before deciding the comings and goings in the summer.

If ITFC really will stick with Keane then I guess they need to back him with transfer funds over the summer and that worries me that more millions will be wasted, and good players such as D.Wright and Garvan may well leave.

As for the bit about "ignoring the start to the season", why ignore the worst start in the club's history and the poor selections at the time such as persisting with Trotter in midfield, playing Delaney at left back, often playing one up front often etc? I know recent results have been better (better than awful) but the performances have been dull with an ever changing team. Keane seems to be turning us into a battling defensive team rather than the passing attacking side that we are used to, and I don't like that. All 11 back to defend corners is an example. We need to change, introduce width and start attacking again.

i still think as others have said keane signed a 2 year contract and we should at least give him until christmas next season and see where we are. we are in a transition period at the moment rome wasn't built in a day, i'm not saying i am happy how the seasons has gone and thankfully i live in cardiff so at least i can hope my head up high here, but all managers need time if we change the manager now, we would have to go through this all again stick with him and we might just get some rewards for it !!!

Clegg hasn't got the balls to admit he ****ed up when he sacked Magilton and hired Keane.

A question to all those optimists who think next season will be all rosey - are you the same optimists that have said all season that we will still make the playoffs (not going to happen) or who say after every crap result that we'll win the next game 3-1 (never happens and usually yet another dire performance)?

Surely you have realised by now that your otimismis unfounded.

There are underlying issues across the club and not just at the top -
I want to hear more about our Academy - what we are doing to bring players along - we had a Youth Cup afew years back and whilst it does not always translate that all make it - I would have thought a couple may have shown themselves - Garvan is the only one left - I think ?
The reserves league is rubbish and does not help us find out about players
I think the whole back room staff need looking at - I dont want a band aid fix to suit the ego of one man - I think Peter Taylor - or that type - would have been good for the club .
Keane didnt want him ( I was talking to afew of the Ipswich guys at a reserve match end of last year) - KEANE thinks he knows best - he doesnt
Either he accepts he needs help with a strong experienced right hand or get out
If ( and I want him out) we do not get rid then at least bring in an experienced right hand man

Clegg's obviously set his standards as low as Keane's.

Have you noticed that the people who were saying stick with Keane til xmas are now saying stick with him til next season..then the next, then the next..

Burley or Curbishley would fit this club like a well tailored suit..Keane fits like a really uncomfortable pair of underpants that keep on riding up the crack.

yes it hasn't gone to plan but are defence which has always been a problem has been sorted out, we are making a lot of chances to score which is anougher problem we had for a while and will be address next season with 2 new stikers hopfully. All new manager sort out the defence first and make them hard to beat as we are hence all the draws, next it the attacking side we are makin the chances (be more worried if we wasn't), and before some one else say it yes we played bad at times like other teams if you can grind out result when you are playing bad it a sign of a good team, i think your more optimistick to think a new manager will come in who ever that may be and all of a sudden we will be ok

I was talking to some Celtic fans this weekend - they could think of nothing worst
They need some strong leadership to rebuild morale etc
Also a man capable of taking them to European glory?? or at least the second phase!!
Keane is not quite at that level me thinks

Keane is the right man for the job. He is young, ambitious and has a very different style of management, people need to stop moaning and talking about other managers coming in. I have a great stat for everyone, including Mr Evans and Clegg. If our "players", not the managers faukt, had of kept their heads for the last 90 secs of each game this season (conceeding 6 goals) we would have had a further 7 points, putting us in 8th place, and we are still building the team for the future, come on, would we want to be heading intot he premiership with this current squad?? It would have been an embarrassment! Back the team, the manager, and lets look to next season were we will win the Championship and celebrate promotion at carrow road in an April fixture where we defeat the scum 3-0!!

Keano's barmy army!
