McEveley Linked Again Thursday, 6th May 2010 08:36
Former loanee Jay McEveley is again being linked with a return to Portman Road having been released by Derby County. After previous reports linking the Blues in January, Rams boss Nigel Clough confirmed that the 25-year-old was amongst a number of players who had been mentioned in conversations with Town manager Roy Keane.
McEveley, who has been capped three times by Scotland, was with the Blues while a Blackburn player during the 2005/06 season, making 17 starts and two sub appearances, scoring once.
The Liverpool-born defender, who had previously spent time on loan at Gillingham and Burnley while with Blackburn, signed for Derby for £600,000 in January 2007, subsequently joining Preston and Charlton on loan.
This season the 6ft 1in tall left-back or centre-half has been a regular in Nigel Clough’s side. His performance against the Blues at Pride Park is unlikely to have impressed Roy Keane when he was give a hard time by Connor Wickham in particular as the Blues ran out 3-1 winners.
A left-back is clearly on Keane’s summer wish-list with Ben Thatcher’s contract cancelled during the season and David Wright released. Youngster Shane O’Connor is currently the only out-and-out left-back at the club.

I'm bored already with the speculation, & the season's only just finished. I wouldn't mind McEveley, but it is highly unlikely as he is neither Irish nor has he ever played for Sunderland
Bad disciplinary record, not quite as bad as Thatcher`s. Similar player= limited Just not good enough if we are aiming for top 6 Free but thats about all in his favour.
Pims: exactly! Is thi sguy any better than D Wright? No chance. He was awful when he was here before and has done nothing since to suggest my opinion should change.
If this is more lazy journalism why do they keep lining us with rubbish players or players we don't need?
Hopefully nothing in this, as McEverly is an average defender who won't get forward much from full-back. If he cannot agree wages with Derby, this suggests he is expensive too. Surely right-back is more a priority now D.Wright and Rosenior have been released? Wright could play at left-back too, which was a big advantage. He will be missed.
Why do we keep being linked with defensive players when attackers are what we are crying out for?! If Keane is looking to bring in 5, surely 3 of them have to be attacking wingers / strikers?
Oh no... he was rubbish last time he was here and is not wanted at Derby who are hardly brimming over with useful defenders... Maybe this is a blinder type story,, we will be so grateful to RK when he doesn''t buy him, that we won't notice when he sells Wickham off cheap to one of his mates and bring another brace of mediocrce Irish strikers RK? Aren't you getting sick of 'im.. (I bet his team mates in the Irish World Cup team are!!(still))
Nice scouting report from Sweden on this Prisca chappy. He looks fantastic in that montage. However, I remember when we bought Priskin, I looked at a YouTube motage of his from the year before when he scored 15 goals for a poor Watford side. (shame he could never perform for us!) Be careful of these montages - I'm sure if you made up a montage, with some stirring music, of a few Mich D'avray goals, he would look like Maradona! (maybe)
Although a while ago, Rade Prica played against us for Helsingborgs. Came with a big reputation along with John Pelu. Looks good in Scandi football, but never did the business at Sunnerland. Although that was the prem. But is he likely to leave a Champions League club for us?
If I hear the joke about the player not being Irish or from Sunderland one more time I think I'll pi$$ myself laughing..............not...........at least get some new material!
As for this player thanks but no thanks...................
Sadly he wasn't the best of players 1st time round and being released by Derby does not bode well if we get him back, David Wright is a far better experienced player.
Can't see what we want a left back for O'Connor looks good enough and tommy smith seemed to do well enough there on sunday, if anything we need a right back after letting David Wright and Rosenior go.
Lets be honest - he is quite dreadful. Last time he was slow and cumbersome. He only gets loaned out at clubs. Wickham made him look like the donkey he is at Derby. We need to move on not look back at has beens
Went to derby twice this season and saw portman road game - he's not good enough as he's too injury prone. Great attitude, but should probably play league 1, hope Town recognise this 2.
