Town Set for New Chopra Offer
Town Set for New Chopra Offer
Monday, 7th Jun 2010 17:47

Town are reportedly ready to up their offer to Cardiff City for Michael Chopra to just over £4 million. Last week, the Blues increased their bid to £3.75 million, but the Bluebirds are believed to want to at least match the £4 million fee they paid Sunderland for the 26-year-old a year ago.

Chopra played for manager Roy Keane at Sunderland and the Newcastle-born striker is the Blues boss’s number one target this summer. Keane hopes to pair Chopra, who scored 21 goals for Cardiff during 2009/10, with Connor Wickham next season.

The Bluebirds are understood to be lining up Swindon’s Charlie Austin to replace Chopra once Town have made an offer they find acceptable.

Austin, 20, was linked with the Blues in December, during a hugely impressive first season as a professional with the defeated League One play-off finalists.

Great news!! for me I would still say go get him at £4m, we need quality in front of goal, How about signing Chopra & "Hijacking" there move for Austin at the same time! Chopra, Wickham, Austin, Priskin, now thers a strikeforce worth getting excited about!!!....... But hey lets keep feet on the ground & get Chopra signed & sealed first!!

Now that really would be an exciting pairing upfront that has the potential to set the Championship alight.

Might Chopra be worried that he'll be overshadowed by a 17yr old??

Come on Keane and Clegg - do the deal and get it done so we can focus on the rest of the team.

Who would he keep to come off the bench... Pabs and ...?

As much as Id love to Chopra playing for us you do have to worry about any striker who goes 4 months with so little to show in terms of goals and will Roy still have patients with him if he goes a month without scoring and then gets loaned out like Stead and Priskin who werent given decent runs in the team to turn their form around,Unless Keane changes his attitude of not giving players time in the team I fear this could be a disaster and could very well be what makes Marcus Evans say enough is enough.

a move to reunite with his former boss (RK) may be just what the player needs to give that boost.

Remember, "Quality is for life - form transitional", as they say !

For me Pablo & Stead have had their time, we need to look forward, Wickham, Chopra as 1st choice, Priskin form the bench & I believe we still need to add another young up & coming striker.

kerryblue. the difference between chopra & priskin is chopra is a proven goalscorer over a number of sesons. priskin had 1 half decent season at watford. showed soon as he played here that he not gud enuf. prob paid abt £1m 2 much 4 him. chopra will start nigh on every game here, barring injury, suspension or total loss of form

i'd prefer austin as he looks decent and £4mill seems too much to me

4m for a player who has only scored 3 goals since xmas. its to much.

Would get austin/hooper/sharp for half that.

abit pricey but i understand that its how much you need to spend in this league if you want goals, so i say go for it, id say wickham, chopra, stead and priskin would be killer

£4M should be the final offer. However if this goes through then great stuff.

Dont forget it was stated last week that although the club have 4/5 targets there will be players going out. To pay for Chopra at around £4m that means Walters, Garvan and Stead who would command fees could well be sold - although I am not fussed if those 3 do go

Chops is not as good as hooper, still if we gunna overspend rather it be on him, and not another Priskin.

I think chopra is a good signing but I wouldn't expect to see anything else happen until more players have left. I don't believe Evans wants to put in a lot more cash. Keane will therefore have to be shrewd in who he gets at full back, which makes me wonder if he will really improve on david wright? Pablo will have to go, I dnt think we should totally disregard the likes of priskin and martin as they are still young and could still deliver!

Excited about Priskin?!..christ almighty.

Stead and garvan should be sold to get some cash, but I think we should hang on to walters, we need to keep what have been our better players from last season.

£4m too much for Chopra and he did not get Cardiff up this season, spread the £4m and get Hooper plus another striker and maybe Whittingham instead as we need some goals from midfield next season.

"... he did not get Cardiff up this season ..." FFS, he got them to the play-off final! That's as near as dammit.

NO> not worth 4 million.
get 2 or 3 reasonable players in. Not another keene donkey.

£4m is a lot of money for any player, and this is more than we have spent on anyone for many years. At that sort of money I would say test the water and see if Cardiff's new investors have any money behind them at all, but then it is not a massive rise on what we have already offered. RK had best be right on this one, as neither he nor the club can afford another expensive flop...

Not the main issue at the minute. Keane will leave by the end of the week and be replaced by Cotterill or Mowbray. Not because its what I think should happen. Watch this space.

I bet we let Gary Hooper go somewhere elese for £2m. This is about the fifth time I'm flagging for Hopper. Of course it doesn't mean anything in the real world of football management of Ipswich Town.
