Sunderland Keeper Move Near to Collapse?
Sunderland Keeper Move Near to Collapse?
Wednesday, 28th Jul 2010 11:25

Town’s move for Sunderland keeper Márton Fülöp is close to collapse, according to reports on Wearside. The clubs have agreed a fee understood to be in the region of £1 million, but the Hungarian international has so far failed to agree personal terms with the Blues.

Town are reported to have initially wanted a loan deal before agreeing to a permanent move for the ex-Spurs keeper. The player is said to have held personal talks but has been unable to agree a contract at Portman Road.

Sunderland are believed to have told Town to get the deal done quickly as there are other clubs interested in signing the 27-year-old.

Newly-promoted La Liga club Hercules are also understood to be chasing Fülöp, along with two unnamed Premier League sides, Anderlecht and Olympiakos. Fülöp, who played for Roy Keane at Sunderland, is likely to prefer a move to the Blues as he would have a greater chance of playing regular first team football for a Championship side.

It would be nice to have some good news to read, Phil. Couldn't you just tell a few lies to keep us happy?

Sorry but can someone explain this? We have Murphy who seems like a good keeper. We seem to be getting offered the likes of £200,000 for decent players who Keane wants to sell. Why are we about to pay £1m for a back-up keeper - with commensurate wages - who has been a back up at Sun'lun'? Anyone got any idea?

Is this really bad news? That money we would have spent on Fulop can be used better elsewhere in my opinion.

i understand why people say that keeper is not a need...and i totally agree, it wouldnt be a position i would target, however, fulop is a better keeper than what we have already, and so would be an upgrade, therefore missing out on an upgrade (at any position), is what i call bad news

Cant agree terms - Ok goodbye do not want to play for the team. Plenty more goal keepers to look at. I do not want big heads that do not want to play for the club but want to impress the bank manager. RK and ME drop him please and move on.

MR Evens???... pay out the money for this guy,,, He is very much needed! We seem to want the top players but are in-caperble of paying them the wage that follows suit.... This would be very disappointing for me... it proves our lack of ambition should this deal fail to materialise !!! If we can't afford this guy u can forget Chopra, Finnan etc, etc, all will demand similar wages...

Got to agree with the_gospel. This is a shambles and if anyone outside the club cared to have a look at how it was being run they would be p1ssing themselves.

However, it's good news. We don't need to spend £1m on a third choice Prem goalkeeper.

I hope it does collapse as Murphy is more than adequate for our division. That 1 million can go towards a striker, a midfield player or a player with some pace or even a right back. Just tried to name our line up for the Middlesboiugh game and its impossible. Get your money on us to finish bottom 3. Why can personal terms never be agreed surely that is the first thing that should be discussed before anything else.

Can't understand why Fulop would want to join us in the first place. No guarantee of first team football here either, and we are unlikely to be able to match his Premier League wages

Actually personal terms are normally last... first you have to agree a fee with the selling clud to allow myou to talk to the player. Nobody on here knows if this is Furlop being to greedy, ITFC being unrealistic in their wage structure or the whole things a complete load of tosh and he'll sign tomorrow... until ITFC come out and tell us, we won't know... and if we don't sign him, don't expect ITFC to announce why... could put off other potential recruits.

How is this bad news? He have a good goalkeeper and Murphy, this is good news as we are not about to waster £1 million of Marcus Evans well earned money on a player who we dont need!

How predictable! Seems that we can't organise a booze up in a brewery at the moment.

However - I hope it does fall through, we really don't need him and the money spent on him could be better used elsewhere in the team.

calm down 16jack...u cantake a breather after that!! and any deal with chopra i feel will be a long drawn out affair that probably wont happen til very late in the transfer window!

16_Jack_ken_16 - great use of punctuation! I did eventually understand your point after having read your last comment four times! Although I do agree!

One other quick thing: I feel that with all the recent speculation, injury news and general bad luck happening at present now would be a good time for a spot of...

"always look on the bright side of life..."

loads of good points on here, but premiership players are goin to come at premiership prices and want premiership wages, ME needs to release some cash so RK can spend it wisely this time, not on misfits and wasters like priskin and martin!! i for one would love to see nickey shorey come in, along with chopra and welbeck, to create some quality competition for places, get the squad working to be in the first team. How did I know there'd be comments on here slagging off RK over this! To be fair, I bet RK identifies who he wants and then probably couldn't care less about what it takes to get them here. That's then up to Clegg and Evans. If things then go pear shaped, how is that RK's fault? He's probably as hacked off with it as the rest of us. Don't get me wrong, he has made some dodgy signings, which is probably why Clegg and Evans don't just give him an open cheque-book to do what he likes. However, for all our supposed ambitions, surely we've either got to back RK or sack him? At the moment, it seems like we're in limbo. Unless of course this is a deliberate tactic by ME: don't back RK and then he'll walk...........
