Clegg to Look at Friendly Pricing
Clegg to Look at Friendly Pricing
Monday, 9th Aug 2010 08:59

Chief executive Simon Clegg says he will look at the pricing of Town’s pre-season friendlies in the wake of the disappointing 5,770 attendance at last week’s 1-0 defeat to a Spurs XI. A number of TWTD posters were unhappy at paying £15 to watch what was essentially a reserves fixture with neither side fielding more than a handful of first team regulars.

Clegg told TWTD: “I think with the benefit of hindsight we might have done things slightly differently and certainly it’s been a learning experience for me.

“There’s no doubt about it, I’d prefer to see more of the stadium full for friendly matches and we’ll have to think very carefully in terms of the pricing structure to get the optimum price for the fans and for the club in future games.

“For me as a chief executive, it’s a case of getting a balance between a full stadium and trying to generate the right level of income to offset the expenditure we have.

"People forget that even for a friendly we carry huge overheads as a result of opening up the stadium - putting in turnstile operators, putting in stewards, floodlights, first aid, the police, the whole operation. Those costs have to be covered or it just becomes non-cost-effective.”

Refused to go to the Spurs game. Was totally overpriced. I am not confident in Cleggs abilities. I hope he proves me wrong - but ticket pricing was poor and he has failed to excel in the transfer market this season (so far!).

Isn't it annoying when people earning £100,000+ talk about being on a "learning experience"?! If people are trainees, perhaps they should not get paid a salary around the same as the Prime Minister?

I think match day prices are far too high. My season ticket works out under £21 a match, but a friend going with me on the day can pay £35 to sit next to me. Casual fans will generally not pay 67% more than regular supporters. Surely we need to encourage new people into the stadium?! I think Clegg has got the prices all wrong. He is presiding over falling gates at Portman Road despite Marcus Evans' investment in the team, that is the bottom line.

Congratulations under the sun666 for being the first to blame Keane for the price of the tickets............ In a previous post you called Clegg Glegg. Are you a ventriloquist? Or the dummy? :)

Another example of Clegg's "learning curve". It sounds like he did not realise that Spurs' first team were also playing that night. He really does not have a clue. Maybe he should spend less time on Evans' 2012 business and more on being the CEO of ITFC.

The whole friendly thing has been a joke for years now. I won't go to friendlies or League Cup matches because of the extreme prices charged. The greedy gits have my money up front before the current season is really over and then expect me to pay to watch the players "train" - this ain't Barcelona or Real Madrid.
For Clegg to come out with that dross he must think we are really stupid. The club are just trying to screw us again.
In my view the least season ticket holders should get are free entry to all friendly, youth, reserve games when they are played at PR and half price League Cup entry.
I seem to recall that's what the Cobbolds used to do when this club was a club and we used to be a force in the top division.

why pay so much to watch when you can buy a ball cheaper than the entry price and play for free ?

So he should, £15 is a lot of money to see 3 or 4 1st team players. For season ticket holders it should be a fiver or free, Public relations and all that.
