Pablo Loan Set to Go Through Today Thursday, 19th Aug 2010 10:24
Crystal Palace are set to complete the loan signing of Town striker Pablo Couñago later today, according to reports in south London. News of the Eagles' loan move for the Spaniard first broke yesterday.
If the season-long deal is completed before the weekend as is expected, the 31-year-old is still unlikely to be involved against the Blues on Saturday.
Couñago, who was brought into English football by Palace boss George Burley in 2001 when he was at Town, has fallen out of favour with current manager Roy Keane and was unlikely to be involved with the Blues again. The ex-Celta Vigo and Malaga man's contract is up at the end of the season.
Yesterday, Palace signed former Town academy schoolboy Stuart O'Keefe from Southend United.

Blimey. Some people are going to be very confused on Saturday at this rate.

Pity he's not likely to play against us on Saturday - that would've reduced the goal threat from Palace!

Another step complete on the path to a new era dawning at our club! Good work getting him out Keano... Now you must replace! and this will surely be a stern test of the owners and more importantly Cleggs aspirations and serious intentions! From what I can see Keano has more than held up his part of the deal... COYB's!

Anyone know how long Counago has left on his contract? If only a year and this takes him to the end of it then its a good move all round. Always love Counago when he was on his game-unfortunately it was only two games in every season. Goes with my best wishes though, ole ole ole ole

we better have some new strikers planned, cos that leaves Stead (who may well leave), Priskin and Murray (whos like 12) :| :

Adding fuel to the "...then who are going to be our strikers?!?..."-debate!Especially in case Steady also leaves.

I wonder if the Palace fans moan at Burley only signing ITFC or ex-ITFC players like many of our lot do about the whole Sunderland/Irish thing .... Good luck Pablo - it is your time to move on.

i still love Pablo and will always love Pablo, looks like it will be long ball for us forever from now on as no one else can hold up the ball

I'm not sure sunderland have any spare strikers to sell us...... and palace will try to sign matt holland and marcus bent next

Keep sweeping the crap out Keano, Pablo has never been a favourite of mine, back to goal all the time, not prolific and has milked our club for thousands. Sure there are a couple more you can have George

Hope all the players are clear which goal they are supposed to be kicking into on Saturday.

Good luck Pabs - but not against us! Price, Wright, Ambrose, Garvan, Lee, Pablo with Burley in charge.. Although some of my "favourite" town players.... they don't look a great team in reality....

So Burley is a bad manager is he?? He appears to be targetting ex Ipswich players - a club he used to manage. Many gave Roy LOTS of grief for doing this was Sunderland. Perhaps Palace fans should buy an Ipswich shirt ..... etc etc
Blandford added 10:51 - Aug 19
Well Done to RK for pretty much completing his task in removing the dead wood from the squad. Now it's time for Cleggy to get off his overpaid backside and (try) to do his job. We need you to support RK and sign the players he has targeted - if that is not too much to ask. Hopefully we will see a number of new signings soon - please.

Agree Blandford. That's pretty much the end of the mediocre players. If we can add a couple of class signings, it will be a job very well done. It's amazing how people's opinions of Keane seem to have changed/be changing now they can see what he is actually doing. In Keano We Trust COYB

If Palace are picking up the bulk of his wages, this is the best transfer news of the week. Whether you love or loathe him, Pabs is on a massive wage for a player who played 1 in 4 games last season, and was on course to play even fewer this year...our top earners should be the first names on the teamsheet every match.

The script is writen for Saturday, then !

IMO it was not so much Keane last year but some of the players attitudes (Keane did make mistakes) Glad to see Keane is getting rid of players who cant take us forward, just hope that if we do not go up this year that we dont get rid of Keane as we will have another two years of player movement. Thats most of Jims players gone. Priskin Wickham and Murray are our only strikers. Keane has said that Wickham cant be expected to play the whole season, so the same must be said about Murray. We can only be letting Stead and Pab's go if we have at least on striker about to sign for Saturday, I am guessing it is Scotland as the bid has been met and he was so very very close to signing. McCorrmacks agent has stated that Jones has told him he can find a loan club for him (so a possible) Bellamy joining Cardiff and Koumas plus we have cash from Walters, and freed up wages are we going in with an improved bid for Chopra as he is Keanes number one target?

Glad to see Pablo go - never rated him highly as a player, too much style without substance, but couldn't bring myself to dislike him either. I genuinely wish him all the best. We must have a striker lined up if Stead is going as well (he's the one I think we should have kept).

Strangest start to a season ever. Never thought I'd be sooo excited that we've cleared the decks so emphatically. Come on Clegg, Keano's done his side of the bargain, over to you sir.

I'll be pleased that all these players have gone when the picture of chopra, Scotland et al are puctured on this site standing in PR holding their new shirt up.
