Keane Looking to Bounce Back at Norwich
Keane Looking to Bounce Back at Norwich
Monday, 22nd Nov 2010 09:15

Boss Roy Keane hopes next Sunday’s derby will prove the ideal game for his side to return to form after three successive defeats (BBC1, 1pm). Robert Koren’s second half strike was enough to give Hull City a 1-0 victory over the Blues at the weekend.

Keane said: “Hopefully it’s a good game for us to try and bounce back. It’s away from home and it’s a derby and we’ve watched enough games to know they’re hard to predict and that in a sense your form goes out the window.

“That might be a good thing because our form over the last three games, despite the effort having been fine, has seen us lose games. You can’t keep losing football matches because the pressure builds and then you go into the next game and it’s a ‘must-win game’.

“Then sometimes you take silly gambles, but first and foremost going into the game next week we want to be hard to beat and we’ll take it from there.”

The Blues boss says everybody at a club feels it when a side loses games: “Pressure builds on everyone when you don’t win football matches. I keep saying pressure builds from within. We’re disappointed ourselves and next week is a game we want to win because we’re dropping down the league. The derby one is always a good one to look forward to.”

Keane said on Friday that he believed progress had been made in his time at Town, but concedes that his team have to show that on the pitch: “Despite me sitting here and trying to talk a good game, you’ve got to go out and do the business and we’ve not done that. That pressure builds on trying to get the right result in the next game.

“It’ll be a long week because a week is a long time in football, but we’ll have to lick our wounds and our supporters will be looking forward to a tough game next week.”

Meanwhile, on-loan Town defender Jack Ainsley suffered a nightmare debut with Histon having been at fault on three of Luton’s goals as they defeated the Stutes 5-1 on Saturday.

Spot on bobble...a win sunday will unfortunately pull the already very stretched wool over our owner's eyes (yet again).

..and to think poor old Jim got the bullet after beating norwich 3-1!

Stop being so stubborn Marcus/Clegg...your respect is dwindling by the hour...bring and end to this farce.

Marcus Evans and Clegg have been very quiet on the matter over the last week or so. We need some leadership, or are they too busy interviewing. After the last change of manager I suspect it could be a swift change, maybe once we go out of the cup to West Brom, Keane's final Hurrah!

Roy Keane was a publicity stunt gone wrong, if Evans wanted a big media name to raise our profile then we would have been better off getting Jordan (katie Price). The same huge ego, the same self importance and the same football management skills

Our chairman the top bussinessman, erm isnt making money important? Premiership or League One? does not take a genius to work out which one brings in more money and if Keane stays which one we will be in next season.

Bounce back? I certainly hope so but i have to say I am extremely fearful of our chances on Sunday. If its less than a three nil defeat i will be amazed!..our football is predictable, no width, no wide men , lack of attacking ideas other than lumping the ball from the back to the "strikers".....Fulop cant do anything but kick it out as we have no full backs to roll the ball out too....keae has said he wants us to be hard to beat ..which translates as " i aint changing the 4 centre halves playing across the back line and im packing the midfiled with players who dont want to push forward...and playing one of four "strikers" up top who cannot play that role!...much has been said about our low attendences for home games...the good people of Suffolk who have followed town over the yaers have been watching attacking flowing football...its why we come, to be entertained! Personally I dont care if we dont win every game as long as we play attractive football, .....look at Norwich as an example...for the last 2 years their attendances have been higher than ours even though they got relegated and played a whole season in league one, the Norolk dumplings kept playing their football and the supportwers kept coming even tho the opposition was Brentford Carlisle etc!...please Mr keane, Im not a boo boy but for the love of all thats blue and white we need entertaining, do that and the fans will support you....COYB!!!

I wonder how RK will bounce back from losing his job after the WBA Carling Cup game next week. If we lose against Norwich RK will leave under the banner of 'by mutual agreement' but won't be announced or become effective until after the final whistle on Wednesday next week (the WBA result with be irrelevant).

Yawnnnnnnnnnnnnnn........as long as we are 'hard to beat' Roy, that's fine. We also find it hard to win....i predict a draw...maybe even the 0-0 Roy craves. But hang on are we hard to beat? Oh i give up. Roy's confusing me. My mind says we're great (due to Roy's mumbojumbo) but my heart says no we're not!!!

I think whatever Keane says or does now doesnt really matter, he has alienated the fans and as we know, once you lose the fans, you are on borrowed time. If I had to guess I would say candidates for the job have already been sounded out, a bit like how Keane had the job even though Magilton was still in charge.

As many have said I more than expect Norwich to be his last game in charge, unless we somehow manage to give the budgies a good hiding.

I just wish Keane would take a leaf out of Gordon Strachans book, admit he isnt the man for the club, leave without a severance pay and do what is best for the club. The way our form is going, if Keane goes we might be able to turn the season round, carry on as we are and we are in trouble this season, Mid December is make or break time, if we are going to make a change but lets act now, even if we do have to pay Keane off, lets get someone in who will get Town playing the ITFC way!

I think football in general in England is cack at the moment, the Spanish teams are the way forward-lots of possession, attractive football, the old Ipswich way you could almost say! I dont think you have to change with the times and play this long ball rubbish, Arsenal are proof of this-they may not always win trophies but they entertain the fans with their football at least. I think we should revert to our roots, not try and forget about them and give the club an overhaul as Keane thinks we should, I want to be that family club again, be a team that everyone has as their second team, be IPSWICH TOWN rather than Roy Keanes Ipswich Town!

Has anyone else ever been this dispondent following the Town? At least I can see a glimmer of hope that Keane will soon be gone and our club can get back on track.

Rant over! Sorry folks.

I read the comments about us wanting to be "hard to beat" that we will go into the derby with a defensive line up, probably with four centre backs, four central midfielders and one winger, and one up front. Norwich will go 1-0 up, and then what? We've scored 3 and conceded 8 so far this month.

Hopefully Evans is lining up Ipswich Town's next manager behind the scenes and once it is agreed, Keane will be relieved of his duties. Personally I would put a caretaker boss in charge until a new man is in place. Surely Evans doesn't want fans to get more angry and demonstrate, boycott matches and protest?

Last chance saloon I fear on Sunday for Keane! I will be there shouting for the lads regardless of how well or bad they are doing. Just one thought, didn't Jim beat Norwich just before he was sacked!!??

A few [getting fewer] people still come on here supporting Keane, i cant believe anti keanes only, use this forum, by far most posts are against Keane, the percentage must be same on terrace. If Evans is at matches he must sense its all turning rotten.Nothing changes week in week out, what will it take to get through to M E .We have a faceless owner, and a brainless manager, neither of which helps to motivate support.

Mr Clegg - when it comes to season ticket renewal time and if by any chance

a) Mr Keane is still in charge

and

b) we still have a mathematical chance of making the play offs

please can you make it clear to fans what will happen if we do not get promoted.

ie Options

a) We get, somehow, promoted and Roy's contract is renewed

or

b) We don't and he is kicked down the road a bit

At lease it will be fair on us who always sign up for the early bird date.

I would hate to renew my ticket and find out I am watching this standard of long ball, inept dross for another season.

The deal on our tickets states if we are promoted we will get 50% refund. Roy Keane promised us promotion with 2 years. Roy Keane is worth £25K. Perhaps he should refund all of us 50% if he fails to live up to his word - leaving scott free after raping the club for £1.5 million will be appalling. Being allowed to stay to pilfer some more would be criminal.......

This is my first post on here, though I've been visiting the site now for a few years. As a lifelong supporter who frustratingly lives up north, I have little chance to get to PR- though I attend as many away games as I can. Up to now I have sat on the fence over Keane but now feel I must lend my support to the 'Keane outers' as I am repeatedly watching the same errors in tactics and judgement. Having recently watched the games at Hull, Sheff Utd and Scunthorpe (all poor beatable sides) the same errors are being made and he is not learning!!

Ipswich have always been known as a side that plays attractive passing football on the ground. This is no longer the case, and it is tragic if Keane believes he is playing to our strengths as I firmly believe we have one of the best squads in this league, easily capable of passing the ball, scoring goals and finishing top 6.

+ves-

1. In Fulop, Macauly, Delaney, Norris and now Priskin we have a real spine of quality. These players are more than capable of competing at the highest level.

2. In Peters, Colback (if we could sign him), Hyam, Wickham we have youngsters who play with energy and desire, and if played consistently, in position, and coached correctly could be real stars of the future.

This is a platform to work from.

-ves.....TACTICS TACTICS TACTICS

1. In the Hull game (freshest in my memory) we set up to draw from the start!!!!
In the first half I counted 14 balls played route one to Scotland. Murphy's distribution consisted of kicking high down the middle to Scotland- who is short and can't head the ball anyway. The same was going on outfield. If you are going to play one up front (which can work) and insist on going route one, at least play a big frontman who can head the ball and hold up play.... Paul Mariner once said that he regarded his main job to be holding the ball up...One up front either needs a big target man (though this is not what I prefer to see), or a commitment to supporting a player like Scotland by playing passing football through the channels and to feet. Scotland is slow, short and cannot head the ball...enough said. I was sure in the Hull game he would be substituted at half time, if not before, but it was after the hour mark before Keane brought Tamas (our most in form player) on to the pitch!!

2. I am sad to say that only once in the second half of the Hull game did we string more than 5 passes together...The movement for the player on the ball at any one time was awful.

3. We are playing with no width- no out and out wingers, and no full backs overlapping. Not once during this game was the ball crossed into the area from open play!!!

THIS IS NOT THE IPSWICH WAY!!!!!!!

I am no football coach, but it is clear to me Keane is tactically inept. My apologies if any of the above sounds obvious...but IT IS OBVIOUS, so why can't Keane see it. I do not accept that we dont have the players to play in the right positions and play intelligent football!!!!

My team home and away would be this-

Priskin Wickam/Scotland

Townsend/Civelli DN/JC/LH (Creative Mid Player) Edwards

O'Connor/(Attacking LB) DD GM Peters/(Attacking RB)

Fulop

We have options in all positions!!!! I really feel that our strikers all offer something different, and should not be judged until they have the service needed to provide them with chances.

Keane- have some faith in your players, play a consistent team (where possible), play people in position and aim to score goals. Win, lose or draw we need to get back to the Ipswich way or KEANE OUT B4 IT'S TOO LATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

COYB!!!!!

I love this club but find it hard to believe what I see and read in the media about the team. Our current position is nothing to do with the players but the shortcomings and arrogance of our manager. Everybody on this message board knows we need a right back and so does Keane but it is clear he is not one to renege on what he has said previously (that we don't need one)

How can we function on a saturday with 4 central players at the back and 4 central players in midfield and edwards with poor jason up front on his own. We have too much congestion in the middle of the pitch therefore the easy ball from the back is the long one. I am a great believer in a team with balance. I believe that a balanced team will perform better that a team with the best 11 players at the club playing in it. Therefore Keane has to play Townsend on one side and edwards on the other. Peters has to play RB as he gives our 4 central midfields a lateral option as he motors up and down the touchline. Dont think it matters who plays in the centre, Norris probably and anybody else. We must play Priskin and Scotland up front and at the back ODea Smith and Delany make up the rest. Big Gareth is a huge loss, our best player. Either Keeper suits me.

It is clear keane has his favourites.

Fingers crossed for Sunday.

This weekends game at Carrot Road 4 miles from where I currently live will be the biggest defeat in Ipswich history at carrot road.
I lived in Ipswich for 45 years been in Norwich the past 6 and have supported Ipswich home and away since 1967.
We are currently the most boring and uninspiring team I have ever had the misfortune to watch.
I thought John Duncan days were bad but Keano's boring longball football makes Duncan's era look positively entertaining.
The sooner Roy Keane admits he cannot manage and resigns the better.
Players and coaches who have left since Roy's arrival must know something if they all have negative comments about the current set up.
I will support my team for as long as I am alive, I will not boo the team, but please Roy GO NOW. RESIGN GO AWAY AND DON'T EVER COME BACK.

As many have said on here, any sort of result may paper over our cracks and be a stay of execution for keane. On that basis I would take a defeat in exchange for a new manager. Im sure I'll be slated for that comment , but it's just one game. I'm sure Norwich fans didn't want to be humiliated 7-1 at home by Colchester last season, but it was the result that got rid of a numpty manager and meant they got an exciting prospect in. I would take that. Seriously, we need keane out asap. He's ruining this club. And we need to get out if this league asap. There could still be hope this season.

stinkiusminkus.... I am with you! I said the same thing to a friend of mine earlier.. Thought I may actually have been physically sick for the very thought entering my head, but that is surely and indication of how bad things are.
Please don't misread my intentions or commitment! I will be up there on Sunday cheering on the lads with everything I've got and back in portman road on wednesday - BUT keano is really pi$$ing me off and I can see our season falling away... COYB's - FORK!!!

I'm confused.....Are you all saying that if Keane had us playing attractive football then you all would be happy for him to continue as manager ? or....Do you just want him sacked because you don't like him as a person ?

A reference was made about Arsenal and the way they play..I don't think their fans sat in the pub after losing to Spurs and were comforted in the knowledge that eh! we passed it around well though...and to add to that i take it that as long as ITFC played good football then maybe watching it in division 1 would be acceptable ! ( Like Norwich ? )
So if Keane goes do we offer the new manager a 2 year contract and if we are mid table again come xmas sack him and get the next one in.
My opinion is that its got to personal so perhaps it would be best for all if he went
Good Luck to whoever replaces him because he's going to need it.

Same old cr*p from most of these posts !! For goodness sake come into the real world , the days of family club and super football went a long time ago ! We are no longer ( and havent been for many years ) a top club in this league and to imagine we are is cloud cuckoo land ! We lost that status when we failed to stay with our feet on the ground keeping our ideas of competing ( financially ) with the rich clubs in check ! When will you realise we will never attract the top managers or players because we are " out in the sticks " with " no shops " or " life " . I was not going to post any more but when I read the rubbish above about us "not beating the smaller teams than us " and " the teams with less resources than us " I could not help but post to ask who these teams are ? I could not see any who have less experienced players ( our average age is the lowest in the league ) , most have been building for more than 18 months , which counts for a lot and most have been more stable than us in that time !

depressed, it was myself that made the Arsenal comment. I am sure they are very bummed about the Spurs defeat but considering they sell out every single home game, have a waiting list of over 40,000 people who want a season ticket there they must be doing something right! They havent even won a trophy since what 2005??? But they continue to sell out because they play football the right way, the entertaining way, the way the BEAUTIFUL game should be played.

As a season ticket holder, I have never seen the standard of football at Ipswich so bad, long balls continually hoofed up the ball, not able to string more than 3 passes together, its embarrassing to watch. I said to my mate the other day, the last entertaining game I saw was funnily enough against Norwich, Magiltons last game where Danny Haynes ran his socks off that day. I no longer want Keanes way, I want THE IPSWICH WAY!!!

meekreech --- have you been to the recent games, if you have you will realise why a lot of people are p--sed off. Its not about having the right to beat other teams, its about seeing some semblance of improvement over time. Over recent weeks there is no indication that we are improving.

We have the makings of a good team but no tactics to fulfill the potential.

I don't think the match on Sunday 'has 0-0 written all over it"

BlooooCD added 16:04 - Nov 22
depressed... In response, I WOULD accept defeat if we were playing decent football! Its not the defeat that hurts, but the way and fashion in which we are being beaten...Anyone else agree???
My frustration stems from paying to watch crap performances with pi$$ poor tactics, awful long balls (all game), stupid (verging on ridiculous) substitutions, playing players out of position and signing players for £1.5million and then shipping them out on loan! Christ now I'm depressed too!
I think we have a team of players that can make the grade, but I fear that we have a manager that can't get the best out of them..COYB's FORK!

Meekreech...Swansea,Doncaster,Norwich,Barnsley,Watford,Millwall,Scunthorpe, Palace,Preston ,Blackpool to name but a few sides smaller with less resources .
As for not being able to attract big name top managers what was Keane ?
The reason we have one of the youngest squads - Keane got rid of R Wright ,D Wright ,Rosenoir(not offered deal),Thatcher,Bruce, Campo,Miller,Garvan,Stead,Counago,Lisbie ,Walters not all great players but with a lot more experience in this league and then moaned about being a young side full of loan players that never worked last season .
The reason we have no stability is because even now Keane doesnt know his strongest side and changes the team every week and saying other teams have been building for 18 months ? What the hell have we supposed to have been doing ?
Some people will only see what they want to see and that has been the trouble since Keane came here its just a shame it has taken the majority so long to see it
